Help an ace trans autistic person out!

Hey guys! I have sold NO books in 11 days, and I am desperately out of money, so I would really appreciate if you can reblog this posts with summaries of each of my six books about queer autistic people of color! They are all $5 and my only source of income, so if you don’t want to read them – no problem – but please consider reblogging them, because this might be just the representation someone out there needs right now.

  • Where the Wind Runs Down the Gap:  Aponivi is a changeling, blessed by the fae. He lives in a secret library within the walled city of Ore Bell, under the thumb of witch-hunting martials called The Survivors of the Woods. He lays his shoes down for hanged men, hoping his footprints will guide them home. Something inside him burns. His heartbeat is not his own.
  • Haunted House and How to Tame Them:  Pax works at a magical Home Depot in a world where houses are alive and people try and make them happy with constant redecorating. Magical realism modern Regency-etiquette witch story.
  • Dim Light, Goodnight: Survival horror comedy about a queer couple stuck in a straight people filled medical nightmare in Christmas 1989.
  • Liminal People: Two gay scientists and a dog get stranded in the Alaskan wilderness in 1982 and all they do with their solitude is write Magnum P.I. fanfiction, make LSD, and try and find aliens to fuck. Oh, and also not die. They try not to die. My mom lived in the Alaskan wilderness in 1982 and she fact-checked this.
  • The Star Caregiver:  The world exists on islands that orbit each other, and you can only jump from island to island during brief “conjunctions” where they basically crash together. Coby, a low IQ autistic agender Jewish Indian person, has decided to become independent from their caregivers and make their own life on a neighboring island, ingratiating themselves in a world of art-based magic and good friendships – both human and star.
  • The View Down Local gay uncle does not realize his nephew’s suitors are in love with him. But seriously, this book is about gay disabled men of color falling in love in Regency England. There is no homophobia, racism, sexism, or transphobia. It is just gay Regency people of color written in an authentic Regency style.

All of them are relatively short and light on plot and happy, all designed to be read by disabled people who have a hard time reading typical books!

Please reblog if you can, thank you!

Next time a blocked number calls you answer like this: “Jim’s whore house. You got the dough, we got the hoe.”

Why does this not have any notes?

lol no “Nashville sperm bank, you squeeze it we freeze it. how may I help you?”

“Henderson’s Morgue, you stab em, we slab em, this is Eight Ball speaking.”

“Texas crematorium you kill ‘em we grill ‘em how can I direct your call?”

Pro tip: Don’t do this if you recently applied for a new job.

bolded. just in case.

i feel like that pro tip is told from experience

HEY EVERYONE GO DONATE TO THIS CAMPAIGN TO SEND KIDS IN GHANA TO SEE BLACK PANTHER, TODAY’S THE LAST DAY AND THEY’RE NOT EVEN HALFWAY TO THEIR GOAL GO GO GO

Right now it only has $630 to go!

“A month before Marvel’s much-anticipated Black Panther premieres in theaters around the world, this powerful movie is already breaking records. With your help, we can set one more: hosting the biggest free movie screening for Ghanaian children and their families in history. What better movie to screen en masse in Ghana - the first African nation to gain independence from Europe - than this one featuring the powerful, advanced kingdom of Wakanda?

Our goal amount will cover the cost of renting out two screens at Accra Mall Cinema and two screens at West Hills Mall Cinema for one day each during the month of February. Seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Each child and their one accompanying adult will get free admission to Black Panther and receive a coupon for a free child sized popcorn and drink from the concession stand.

As Africans on the continent and in the Diaspora reconnect and embrace the principles of self-love, self-reliance, and self-empowerment, providing strong African images to our children is of fundamental importance.

Many families in Ghana have never seen a film on the “Big Screen”, let alone one featuring so many top Black actors and actresses and shining such a marvelous light on the original and future strength, power and divine majesty of melanated people. For some, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, awakening their consciousness and forever redefining how they characterize themselves, their nation and above all their global existence. At approximately 50 GHS ($12 USD) per attendee, we expect to reach more than 1,100 Ghanaians.”

Nothing is going to change. Americans love their guns more than they love people and after Sandy Hook we decided that killing over 20 children was acceptable and not outrageous enough to make reasonable restrictions on guns. This is America, a country that has been around for 200 years, a superpower, a 1st world nation, and one of the wealthiest countries on the planet and we refuse to protect our own people. We respect guns more than we respect the lives of people.

What specific gun control measures would you propose and how would they directly and effectively make society safer?

  • Absolutely get rid of all AR-15′s and the like.
  • Intense background and criminal background checks and anything violent automatically disqualifies you.
  • Make getting a gun/gun permit more like getting a driver’s license:
  • permit to learn
  • includes an exam with 18 or more questions on the policies, laws, and etc of guns and gun ownership
  • if you get more than 8 questions incorrect you must retake it.
  • 30 hours of practical experience at a gun range with a licensed teacher
  • Must take a 5 hour class on the dangers of guns and how to use them safely which will then yield you a certificate that grants you to take the practical exam and lasts for one year. If you don’t gain the license within the allotted year you must retake the class.
  • A practical exam with a licensed instructor who will grade you on various skills. If you pass you may be granted a permit on the weapon of your choice, the exams may differ on the type of firearm you want.
  • Follow the Japanese model where you must have two gun safes in different areas of the house, one to store the gun and one to store the bullets and you must provide the police with information on where those safes are.
  • No concealed carry and only handguns may be allowed to be out in public.
  • If transporting a weapon, it must be in the trunk of the vehicle, in a bag or some other case, safety on and unloaded and may not leave the vehicle until you are at the destination.
  • If you’re a hunter or some other gun hobbyist that requires a functional weapon other than a handgun then the gun must stay on the premises, whether that is a gun range or the Fish and Wildlife facility.
  • If you live in a rural area where police (and people, for that matter) are few and far between, something akin to a deer hunting rifle should provide plenty of protection from predators and poachers, you still have to follow the aforementioned steps.
  • This doesn’t cover everything but I think it’s a good place to start.

Can you show me evidence that this would directly and effectively create a safer society?

I have never laughed so hard at a gun law post. Like seriously, the evidence is in fucking reality. The proposed restrictions are just fucking logic.

I had a blind professor, last semester, and I swung through his office to make up an exam. It was a while before I knew he was in there because he was sitting with the lights off. I finally went in, apologized, and took the exam by the light of a nearby window (which was fine). Forty-five minutes into dead silence he panicked and yelled in this booming voiced, “WAIT, YOU CAN SEE!!!” before diving across his desk to turn on the lights. I’m sure he was embarrassed but I thought it was endearing and it highlighted a large aspect of disabled life that I hadn’t previously considered.

Sort of relatedly I once had professor who was deaf, but she had learned to read lips and speak so she could communicate easily with hearing people who didn’t know sign language. One day she had gotten off topic and was talking a little about her personal life, so that one of the students said “Oh, I know, I grew up in Brooklyn too.”

She stared at him for a long time and then said “How do you know I’m from Brooklyn?”

And he said “You have a Brooklyn accent.”

She said “I do?” and the whole class nodded, and then she burst out laughing and said “I had no idea!  The school where I learned to speak was in Brooklyn.  I learned by moving my mouth and tongue the way my teachers did.  So I guess it makes sense that I have their accent, I just never thought about it.”

Wow

Don’t armchair diagnose mass shooters and other killers. The misconception that all violent people must be mentally ill (and the following conclusion that all mentally ill people must be dangerous) has horrible real life consequences for visibly mentally ill people.

Schizophrenic people are 14 times more likely to be a victim of a violent crime than committing one because people assume that we’re homicidal and dangerous and may react very negatively to visibly mentally ill behavior, partly due to all the media portrayals of schizophrenics as violent killers.

50% of people killed by police are disabled or mentally ill (and the victims are disproportionately black or other people of color) because the unusual behavior of visibly disabled and visibly mentally ill people is read as inherently threathening and dangerous.

Please consider the real life consequences of reinforcing the association between mental illness and violence - people are dying because y'all want to blame all evil in the world on severe mental illness so that you can clearly separate yourself from it. You’re harming an already extremely vulnerable and marginalized group of people and it’s time to stop!

I encourage people who aren’t schizophrenic to reblog this. These stereotypes are literally getting people killed and I’ve seen no awareness around this on this website.
