The ginger-tinted blonde gave the droid a DEADPAN look. “I’m not blind.” He had 20/20 vision. He will not slap the droid, he will not slap the droid, he’d probably BREAK his hand if he even attempted it. “I don’t care what I sound like to you. To me you sound like NOTHING but a walking toaster.” A poor attempt at an insult, but it was too late to take it back.
Shaking his head, he looked away, lips twitching into a forced smile. “You know what? I’m going to be the MATURE one-” for once. “-and end this now. You’re clearly in some form of DENIAL, something I blame your circuits for. You must be experiencing some form of lag.” He briefly wondered if he made a plea to the council he could try RECONFIGURE the droid to be better mannered..

“If that is all I am to you, so be it.” The droid turned in annoyance. “But you better be careful, you might get burned.” That response was even more frightful that the human’s initial insult. It was highly unusual for Kaytoo to debase himself to such a low level, but some individuals provoked such a reaction.

Wow. That was surprising. Kaytoo never assumed this man could ever be mature. “Denial? I find that to be highly doubtful.” Right, because I’m the one who is in denial. “However, I’m glad you have arrived at that conclusion, as it is pointless to argue with you.”

“That is just what I said, is it not?” Evidently, Kay’s instinctive reaction was to combat sass with sass. “And for the last time, my memory is not fleeting.” Even here, he got little sympathy. It was his looks, he knew it. Once an Imperial, always an Imperial. “So what you are telling me is that I am stuck here. Is that correct?”

”It must be if you can’t remember how you got here. Maybe you were powered down and abandoned here. Lots of people leave old droids here, if they can’t sell them that is.” She commented with a shrug as she finished cleaning her part and put it aside. “Looks like it. You should be glad nobody’s tried to scavenge you yet.”

“They’d have an extremely difficult time if they tried.” He knew how to deal with thieving miscreants. As long as they weren’t armed. “Abandoned? Cassian would not have the audacity to do such a thing.” Never. He was worth way too much to the Captain. The droid surveyed his surroundings again. "I'd say you've been helpful, but I'd be lying."

K-2SO tracked Rook as he awkwardly exited from the cantina. Cold white oculars absorbed all of the sights, including Bodhi’s extremely nervous glance at him. Does he know? Judging by the man’s skittish mannerisms, he must have known something was up. If that was the case, this wasn’t going to be getting any easier.
Durasteel feet gently thumped along. If he was to obtain success, K-2 needed to tone down his obviousness. Unfortunately for him, his appearances did little in assisting him. It was highly unusual to see a KX droid packing a minor arsenal. Probably explained why other pedestrians steered clear of him. They were highly intelligent to do so.
The bot slid down the alleyway in sluggish pursuit. Every tiny movement was being logged and analyzed. Once he knew the pilot’s characteristics, it would be very easy to catch Bodhi off guard. Soon enough.

He had wasted precious time. The death of Galen Erso had distracted him, made him paranoid and skittish. That droid was not following him, he was imagining it, he told himself. He needed to find Saw Gerrera and deliver the message. That was the plan.

His slim figure navigated the streets with ease. The quick pace of his steps gave away the stressed state of his mind and his unresting eyes witnessed of his worried mind. In each figure he expected an assailant, behind each corner he thought he could hear the clonking of mechanic footsteps.

There was a marketplace at the center of Jedha City, known as a rebel hot-spot. Most of the real rebels had dispersed at the arrival of Imperial troops, but occasionally you might meet one. Bodhi put all his desperate hope on that chance. He grabbed onto a shop-keeper and whispered, “Do you know how I can find Saw Gerrera?” No answer, next guy. No luck. Frowns and curse words was all he got, until finally someone told him to meet him at his ship in an hour.

Bodhi allowed himself to believe that he had found his guy. Soon enough the message would be delivered and he would join in the ranks of the Rebellion. He relaxed slightly and innocently looked around the stands. His gaze fell on a familiar K2 unit and all other thoughts were lost. He left the marketplace running.

You can run, but you cannot hide. That is what the droid kept telling himself. He wanted to maintain the impression within his memory that his was a challenging hit. Yet, his subject made it so easy. It was a pity, really. He’d so desired a complication. As the skittish man made off, K-2 got what he wanted. Most excellent.

Little poofs of dust left the ground as his hefty feet made swift contact with it. The pursuit was on. This was just how he’d simulated it. The pilot didn’t know where he was going, at least the droid presumed. It would be a matter of time before a wrong turn left the man cornered in an stub-ended alleyway. Pew.

Of course, his blatant desperation might garner the attention of the numerous troopers patrolling the city. As useless as they were, the possibility existed that Rook could be captured by them. If that scenario played out, all the droid would need to do was remove the pilot from their clutches.

The man was quick, but not quick enough.

Different quadrant? Now he was right in a mess. “Well, I assure you that all of my cognitive functions are in proper working order. I just happen to be uncertain of how I got here.”
Of course. It was one of those planets. Credits were in short supply on the droid, in fact they were non-existent.  Looks like I’m stuck here for a while. “You would not happen to be aware of just where I could inquire about off world transportation?”

“You’re uncertain on how you got from Endor to Jakku? Is your memory on the blink?” She asked, still confused about what the droid was implying before she looked him up and down. “An old reprogrammed imperial droid isn’t going to get any free help around here.” She commented dryly as she went back to her work.

Neema Outpost. Where in the galaxy is that? Kay looked around. All that he could see was a dingy outpost mingled with a vast quantity of sand. What a dump.
“I beg your pardon? I do not believe anything is fried.” The droid spoke with a bit of salt. He wasn’t exactly sure about what was happening and he didn’t want any sass about it. “I am a bit lost. Could you tell me how to return to Endor?”

“You’re certainly acting like it. If you think you’re on Endor, then your navigation is definitely kriffed up. We’re in a completely different quadrant to Endor.” The teenager told him when he insisted he wasn’t fried or malfunctioning. Rey went back to cleaning her part. “You’ll have to get off world. Good luck with that. It costs money to get passage off world.”

Kaytoo, even with his steadfast focus on piloting, took notice of his companion’s obvious discomfort. “You need to be more trusting. Not all droids are out to inflict pain.” The bot felt it necessary to address the tension. After all, if this whole show was to spiral out of control, he’d be the only one to offer any kind of assistance.
“I would be more concerned with the territory we are sailing into. Qiilura is an Imperial occupied planet. My functionality should be a lesser worry.”

Easy to say when you haven’t seen someone being shot to death by a droid!─she looked at him from the corner of her eyes. She knew he was right through, there were all manner of droids out there and not all of them were made to kill. The discomfort was there though, strong as ever, created from her fear of what had happened in the past. She had never allowed a droid near her during so many years…until now, and that was because they had a mission to carry out.

“At least I’ll give you points for being reprogrammed, working with the Rebellion and not being an actual battle droid,” she said, shifting in her chair and looking at him. “It’s what’s kept me from taking the nuts and bolts out of you a putting a laser bolt in your processor. Even if you’re on my side though, I’m not going to give you a weapon.” She’d have more peace of mind that way at least. “I already know what I should be concerned about most.” she added stubbornly.

The words that fell from his vocabulator had little effect. Clearly this tension was unbreakable. He’d have to prove she could trust him. The last thing Kay wanted to be concerned with was problems with the ones who were supposedly on his side. “How nice of you to not do such a thing.”

“Now that you mention it, I had never asked for one.” There was no point in asking, seeing as he’d probably never receive one if he did. “But I did take it upon myself to pack one, Captain thought it wise for once.” Even as moronic as it sounded, the thought behind giving Kay a blaster had some merit. Having armed backup in such territory was necessary. There was always the possibility of something going awry.

If a droid could feel relief, Kay would have felt it as he watched the scraggly bunch filter out of the crowd. The lot of them was really moving, signalling to him that there was little need for hanging around.
As soon as the last of them was on board, Kaytoo fired up the engines, lifting the awkward ship from the dusty surface. He didn’t even bother with letting Cassian take the co-pilot’s seat. They needed to leave.
Within moments, the U-Wing was soaring away. Kay rotated his head back, catching a glimpse of the passengers. They all made it back. Damn. “Do any of you care to elaborate on exactly where we are to be heading to?”

Catching his breath, Chirrut shuffled around to find a comfortable place and position to sit, lowering himself down and resting his staff across his knees. While he was still fit and capable, he still wasn’t as young as he once was, and with age had come more need for rests after times of exertion. It had been a quick jaunt back through the city streets, and he was glad to take the opportunity for a brief sit down.

He shrugged one shoulder when he heard the droid. He had no idea where they were supposed to be going, only that they needed to leave as quickly as possible.

Silence. “I’ll just set the coordinates for nowhere.” The droid was flashed a dirty look from the Captain. Kay just shrugged in response. The icy look said enough. Off planet would have to do for the time being.

Without another word, Kay poured on the power and sent the ship into the stars.

Odd? That’s rather rude. “I’d prefer to use the term eccentric, old man.”

there’s a slight quirk of his lips at the droid’s bluntness. how very unlike and imperial droid.

❝ and what is an imperial presence doing her on tatooine? ❞         he asks with a slight raise of a brow, the amusement not         completely gone from his eyes, though it does diminish         somewhat.

“Imperial?” What? Clearly this man must be bonkers. “I am not aware of any Imperials on this dust bowl. At least not right here, anyway.” Far from it, he was here for some stupid Rebellion reason, like usual.

After Kay had temporarily parted company, winding his way back to the ship proved to be simpler than he’d calculated. How fortunate. Not wanting to waste a moment, the droid slid open the side door and clambered aboard. In a flash, he’d brought the ship’s systems to life with a dull clatter. Lights flickered and screens illuminated. Everything checked out.
Kaytoo peered out the viewport. His white photoreceptors were scanning the passersby for the rest of the motley assortment. Now came the tense part. The waiting.

Getting back to the ship without drawing too much attention was easier said than done, especially with the place on high alert, but they could all be rather sneaky when they wanted to be, and that combined with high familiarity with streets meant that it didn’t take too long before they were darting towards the ship.

Clambering aboard, Chirrut paused for breath, a grin on his face. They had managed it, and now the main concern was getting away safely.
