Disclamer w/e this is MY opinion from what I’ve seen of this person, from their comments on MY fic and from other people’s fics. I don’t think we need this kind of energy in the fandom tbh. Like I’m over it.

I wanted to address this comment in a little bit longer form.

The intention is not for it to seem as if Bug has just been sitting around waiting for Bucky, as addressed in the last installment, "Time," and referenced in a few other parts, she has dated other people, but that wouldn't mean she stopped loving him. As of the beginning of the story Bucky returning her feelings is a new development, which is a pleasant surprise but not something she was holding out for.

Aside from Bug not wanting to "die a virgin," her virginity is not supposed to be the main focus of this story. That was a catalyst moment but nothing more- even Bucky being hesitant to sleep with her isn't related to her being a virgin, it's about the act as a whole. If she had already had just as many partners as him and called him for sex that night he still would have, and continue to, hold off for the reasons discussed in "Strengths (and weaknesses)." As to why I chose for her to be a virgin specifically- well, that's the story I wanted to read so it's the story I wrote. Some parts do say things like "saving just for him." That's just because I thought it sounded hot, if we really dived into it it wouldn't be that serious- virginity is largely a social construct.

I'm not exactly sure how any of that equates to a lack of self respect though? As I see it we have two main characters with different approaches to sex:

Bucky enjoys and has fun sleeping around (or did), as long as all parties are safe and enthusiastically on board there's nothing wrong with that.

Bug didn't want her first time to be with someone she didn't love or felt loved by, there's also nothing wrong with that. To the point that is why she called Bucky that night, if I'm laying the foundation right we should be seeing a long history of trust and love between these characters well before we get to the actual romance. He was an obvious choice for her not purely because she has romantic feelings for him but because he is a consistent, trustworthy, safe person in her life.

Some people (Bucky) choose to have casual sex with many partners, some people (Bug) would rather save that for someone they love or at least trust and feel safe with- neither choice is wrong or means you don't respect yourself.

At the end of the day I'm writing a story I want to read and sharing for others that might enjoy it, but realistically not everyone will and that's totally fine, there's a ton of other stories out there.
