Racism/appropriation of indigenous ppl is RAMPANT in the furry community so let me say some things:

STOP calling ur characters w*nd*g*s. You don’t even have to change the design, just stop calling them that. Call them like. Skull deer or some shit there is no reason for you to be using that word.

Stop using “spirit animal” in referral to ur fursona. This is obvious idk why it even needs to be said.

Stop making “two wolves inside you” jokes. The “two wolves inside you” is in reference to a racist made up native proverb from a white dude.

You aren’t appreciating cultures by doing things we tell u to stop. If you want to appreciate: buy from indigenous ppl, respectfully learn about cultures, listen to native people, and DON’T MAKE EXCUSES.

I know a lot of people like to say “My spirit animal is a -blank.-”, I know I used to say it as well. But as we all know, that is incredibly offensive to cultures who actually go through ceremonies to actually find their true spirit animal. So what should we say to express our “spirit animal”, since we don’t actually have one?

Well, in watching an interview with Christian Navarro, he used the phrase “I identify with lions.” and that blew me away. A lot of people pick a “spirit animal” because it’s nice to look up to an animal that they are like/want to be more like. But that is the wrong way to go about it, so saying you identify with them is much clearer and less offensive. Because you have not gone through the ceremony to receive a spirit animal to guide you, and you never will.

Looking up to and identifying with an animal is okay, saying you have a “spirit animal” without being apart of that culture, is not.

Spend less time trying to make yourself interesting and more time trying to make yourself happy, and I think you'll find that you're truly and deeply one of the weirdest fucking creatures alive (as is everybody else).

Like, once you stop trying to amplify the "bizarre but marketable" aspects of yourself and realllllllly get in there and find what makes you you, then and only then can you really begin to freak out your parents big-time.
