20/03 Happy /extremely late/ Birthday our dearest Chief of Staff!!

Oh gosh where do I start, I’ve had this headcanon ever since we got Sabo’s adventure chapter, since Sabo isn’t the main character of course we can’t expect Oda to flash out much about him, so let me do it instead óvo)9 I feel like he must have struggled a lot the months after Ace’s death. First of all, I wanna clarify I think that after regaining his memories, Sabo didn’t know Luffy and Ace thought him dead /he had no way to know they found out through Dogra/, so he felt incredibly guilty for not being there.

I specially wanted to have Robin take part on this because she knows well how Sabo must felt and how anger can take you away from the people you love, and I think someone close to Luffy could have been big help for Sabo to move on and seek to meet his bro again, also…Robin can be very blunt and this kid really needed that.

And well, this took me 3 months!! I can’t believe this, between only drawing on weekends, scrapping back and forth about 3 scripts for this (and please thank my awesome roommate @fatidoodles for her help spending late nights with me trying to make coherent the mess of headcanons in my head x’D), trying Clip Studio Paint for the first time, cutting out about 2 pages of content because this was going too deep, and lots of panel redraws after, I’m finally done!! I love making comics about Sabo and couldn’t wait to finish this ;; I hope you enjoy it guys, as always, thanks for your support :’)

There's so much to love about this interaction, but I don't think the fact that Luffy's actually listening and asking intelligent questions. It shows how much he really cares about Coby.

#listen this was zoro's way of flirting it's chaotic it's offensive but he was doing his best ok #also the fact that zoro kept the conversation going when sanji stopped talking and then liked his mean response and grinned it's insane

The hair part was a surprise

i find it so funny that animanga zosan kinda has a dynamic where sanji has to sort of take a tough love approach and harass/nag/insistently coax zoro into accepting affection while he himself gets spoiled rotten, but in opla it's FLIPPED. opla sanji would do literally every single possible thing he could to ensure that his crew was taken care of before he got to himself, almost as if he's trying to avoid it; zoro ends up having to bully him into sitting down and taking care of himself, or taking a morning off to sleep in and lay in bed and do nothing together. whereas opla ZORO. oh, as soon as they get together for real that man is spoiled. sanji waits on him hand and foot, caters to his every whim; he wants food? sanji's got it. he wants a drink? name the bottle. he wants to spar? sanji finishes meal prep faster than he ever has in his LIFE and gets his butt out on the deck, wife's orders. opla zoro is an absolute pillow princess in every aspect of his life and he's smug as hell about it.

Something that really fucks me up is this scene where Robin says she wants to die and how Luffy makes this face

And upon reading this for the first time, I felt a huge wave of emotion over his expression because it just felt to me like when he heard that, he was seeing something else. Almost like a memory that we weren't being shown.

And then later when Ace and Luffy's backstory plays out, this is revealed;

That Ace was suicidal. Feeling like it was wrong for him to have even been born and to live. Feeling hurt, angry, alone and unwanted.

And that the only reason he felt like he had the strength to keep living was because Luffy told him that he didn't want him to die.

Ace never directly told Luffy that he wanted to kill himself. But with the way he carried himself and the obvious disregard he had for his life, it was easy to see for someone as empathetic and intuitive as Luffy. And so Luffy stayed close to Ace desperately until he felt strong enough to stand on his own.

Luffy has had so many suicidal people in his life since such a young age and he always saves them in such a seemingly effortless way just by saying

"I'll be there with you. I'll stay."

But what alot of people don't understand is that in spite of Luffy's endless empathy, compassion and love that's deeper than the ocean, when somebody he loves wants to die it always hurts him so bad and it shows so much on his face at even a hint of it.

He bounces back with a smile so often and kicks so much ass that it's so easy to forget sometimes that he's just this 17-19 year old kid...

Who, at his core, is still always crying and begging the people he loves not to leave him because he doesn't want to be alone anymore, either.
