Chapter 1: She Who Came From Outer Space
“This is so boring!” Obito yawned as he slumped over the railings, looking at the beautiful blue sea below him. A few dolphins passed by the boat, a part of him wishing he was born a marine animal. At least then, he wouldn’t be stuck on a fuck rusty boat trying to dig up sunken treasures. If there is any treasure to begin with. “Are we even sure there’s anything valuable in these parts?”
“I’d like to ask the same fucking thing.” Another hissed out. He was Shisui, Obito’s younger cousin and a pretty boy with curly hair and long lashes. His red Uchiha eyes were unusually striking in the mid-morning sun. “I could be chilling back at the Fleet with Itachi but noooo, here I am, wasting the fuck away.”
Obito nodded in agreement. While both he and Shisui were a part of Konoha’s Salvage Department, there were times when they wished they weren’t. On very good days, their Salvage Team―known as Squad 7― is able to dig up numerous sunken treasures―from as small as a barrel to something as massive as a ship itself. But their bad days were very much like their current situation.
“Let’s just hope we’ll get a good catch today.” Obito finally relented. “I mean, it’s only been what? An hour?”
Shisui rolled his eyes and sighed. “An hour too long. We should’ve revisited the area we went to last week! I’m sure there’s far more treasures left undiscovered!”
“Maybe, maybe n―” Obito broke off when he heard the alarm. The loud, incessant ringing was indicative of the metal detectors discovering something beneath the waters. And judging by the persistent ringing, it was something massive.
“Yo! Obito! Shisui! Get in your Yunboro, now!” A tall blond male barked at them as he dashed towards the section of the ship where the Yunboro were kept. He was Namikaze Minato and the leader of their team, Salvage Squad 7.
Obito followed the blond and climbed into his Yunboro, and headed behind his leader into the water. The three of them headed down into the depths, and Obito suddenly got an ominous feeling. He did this countless times before, but there was something he couldn’t understand. There were no submerged ships, no submerged infrastructure…nothing. So, just what triggered the alarm?
“I don’t see anything.” Shisui said into the radio. “It’s just water.”
“Same. And I’m having a bad feeling.” Obito added. “Are they sure the alarm systems aren’t malfunctioning?”
“Guys…you’re a little too restless today.” Minato sighed into the radio. “And no, the detectors aren’t malfunctioning. There’s definitely something―oh shit!” A shriek escaped Minato’s lips when there was a loud boom and splash. “There’s something over there!”
Obito turned up the brightness of his lights and turned in Minato’s direction. That’s when he saw it. A massive, metal construct that upon closer inspection, shaped out similarly like their Yunboro or a variant of it. “What the hell is that?!”
It continued to sink, going deeper and deeper into the ocean’s depths. Obito moved his Yunboro towards it, in hopes of getting a closer look at it, and to hopefully bring it back with them.
“It’s huge!” Shisui shrieked with delight. His laughter rang out in the radio, and for once, Obito found it calming. “And it fell out of the sky?! We’ve got ourselves a good catch!”
“I think we may need to request backup. There’s no way we’ll be able to carry that.” Obito said.
“I agree.” Minato replied. “Namikaze to Rin, we request Salvaging backup. I repeat, we request Salvaging backup.” He said in the radio.
“Request received. Salvage Squad 7 requesting backup, confirm?” A female’s voice spoke.
“Confirm.” There was radio silence for a few seconds before Minato started up again. “Until backup arrives, we have to keep it from sinking! However, if you are getting pulled down, leave it.”
“Understood.” Obito and Shisui replied simultaneously.
Returning to the Fleet, the entire place was in hysterics.
After requesting the backup, Squads 8 and 9 were dispatched to help secure the strange metal construct. And once they arrived in Konoha, things were buzzing. Never before had anyone seen a treasure such as this, and what made it worse, it’s pristine condition.
Obito never told anyone that the Yunboro-like thing dropped out of the sky, because even then who would believe? Obito remembered the folktales of how Humans of ancient times had left the Earth to live in space, but even as a child he never believed it. But…could it actually be true?
He then refocused as the Engineering Department got to work. They carried it to one of their hangars, and like ants swarming a crumb of food, they tackled the ‘treasure’, sawing and drilling…everything they could to get it to open.
Their tools made no scratch, no dent. Even Uzumaki Kushina, one of the Fleet’s best Mechanics could do nothing to get it to budge.
“Argh!” She howled in frustration, hopping off the chest area of it. “Where did you find this…this…this Yunboro?!” She shrieked at Minato, who had been standing beside Obito. “I can’t get even a dent in it! No one can!”
Minato only chuckled nervously, placing his hand in front as if trying to placate her. “Honestly, it fell from the sky and we ―”
Kushina froze instantly. Her eyes widened with disbelief before dragging her husband’s ear down to her lips. “It fell from the sky? What do you mean?” She whispered, but Obito could still hear given his proximity.
“That’s it. It was falling, Kushi. The metal detectors were going crazy, so we had thought it was from underwater. But then we saw it crash into the water and well…”
Obito had to agree with her. What if they had carried something dangerous onto the Fleet? They would’ve just endangered all the Clans here and the regular citizens.
“Tomorrow, we are going to move that thing from the Fleet and dissect it on a detached ship. You don’t know what it is, I can’t get it to open, so in case it’s a bomb at least the entire Fleet won’t be harmed.”
Minato’s face visibly paled. “But if it’s a bomb then…”
“Don’t worry, Uzumaki Engineers and Mechanics won’t die so easily.” She winked at him. She left their side and walked back towards the machine. “Wrap it up guys! Tomorrow we’re moving this to the Whirlpool so we can really dig into it!” She bellowed.
“Yes Ma’am!” They chorused.
[Awakening Process Complete. Lieutenant Hatake Kakashi is to wake immediately.]
Kakashi opened her eyes at the sound of her machine calibre’s voice, the one she called Pakkun. Groggily, she stretched, and adjusted her sight to the surroundings. Relief washed over her when she noticed that she was still within her cockpit, but then a visual appeared on her screen.
There were many people, whom Kakashi deemed to be humans, atop her machine calibre with primitive tools trying to get underneath Pakkun’s armour. A chuckle escaped her as she thought their actions were nonsensical.
[Lieutenant, due to outside stimulus, I deemed it necessary to awaken you from cryogenic sleep to assess the situation].
[I am unable to identify a location. Therefore, I had awakened you to devise a plan.]
“That will be difficult, Pakkun. I can’t even decipher if we are in a Wandering Tribe’s location or not.”
[The entire area seems fragile. Shall I break it down to escape?]
“No. Let me scout first. Although they look like Humans, I want to be sure of where we are, and if they are hostile. This might be wishful thinking but, maybe we could use them to help us back to Galactic Alliance.”
Kakashi then took out the transmitter through which Pakkun communicate with her and placed it at the back of her ear. The cockpit then opened and the chair in which she was sitting turned to the side allowing her to simply jump out.
She looked about warily. “Where the hell is this?” she asked herself.
[There is a lack of sufficient data.] Pakkun said. [However, the air is breathable. Oxygen is the most predominant gas, with nitrogen, carbon dioxide, methane and others but not at the lethal level.]
“I see.” She then took off her helmet and inhaled. But in that, she twisted her face with disgust. “What is that smell?!”
[I cannot say, Lieutenant.]
Kakashi then scanned the area for anything suspicious or dangerous and even prompted Pakkun to do so as well. When they found nothing harmful, Kakashi then headed towards the rusty door on the other side of the room. With her gun firmly in her hand, she placed her back on the wall and then held the knob. It was locked.
“Tsch!” she then used the gun to melt away the lock and the door swung open. What was before her was a rusty corridor, and slowly, Kakashi began navigating. She took careful steps, still having Pakkun on the look-out. She then rounded a corner and still, nothing out of the ordinary.
She continued her walk until she saw steps leading upwards. Carefully, she climbed them all the while on high alert. A Hideauze could pop up at any moment, and god knows what other unknown creature lurks about in this dark galaxy. When she completed the staircase, what she stumbled upon left her speechless.
She was standing on what seemed to be a vast ship, moving on what looked like an ocean. Above, the skies were dark but there were clouds visible. She was awestruck. This was something she’d only seen in her History class back at the training camp in Avalon.
[I am currently analysing the area and the coordinates through stellar pinpoint.] The machine responded. [Lieutenant, something is approaching.]
“What is it?! Hideauze?!”
“What?!” She shouted in shock. Then a tall, muscular dark-haired man came into her view. His ruby eyes were stunning, and it was the first thing she noticed. However, he took a step towards her and immediately, her guard was up.
“Ah, hello. Could you tell me where this place is?”
She heard the man say. She froze for a moment when realisation sunk in. “Pakkun, is it just me or is it that the man doesn’t seem to speak our language?”
“Kannst du das wiederholen?” The man said again, his tone indicated that it was a question.
[He speaks a different language, Lieutenant.]
“Oh no. How are we going to communicate? Pakkun, can you speak their language? Is it in your database?”
[Unfortunately, no. But, I will be able to if I get enough data.]
“Alright. I just have to get him to talk right?”
Obito couldn’t sleep. Shisui and Shizuo’s snores were echoing even through the walls, and so he decided to ease his mind by taking a walk. He exited from the house, going down the long staircase going onto the deck. The fresh air and sounds of the ocean always soothed his soul. After what seemed forever, Obito moved off from there, heading to the hangar where the strange Yunboro was being kept.
However, the moment he reached for the door, he noticed that the handle was burnt off. Deeming it strange, he peeped inside to check on the Yunboro. It was still there. Obito’s hairs stood on end. While they do have flamethrowers, their tools aren’t so powerful to completely melt with such precision.
Turning around, Obito ran down the hallway and rounded the corner, hoping to wake someone up to alert them of this. However, passing the stairs that led up onto a deck, he noticed the door was opened. That door was always locked at night, should in case any pirate sneak onboard, they wouldn’t be able to get in here.
Curiosity got the best of him and he climbed the stairs, heart thumping in his chest. Hopefully, it was probably Kushina, or Kiriya or one of the other mechanics. Pushing the door, his jaws dropped through the floor.
There, before him and standing on a crane, was a girl dressed in a strange dark-grey bodysuit with the most radiant silver hair he had ever seen. Her long hair glowed in the moonlight looking like tendrils of white silk ribbon, her pale skin reminded Obito of porcelain, smooth. Her bright grey eyes narrowed as she looked at him, and he could tell that she was wary of him. He took a step towards her, cautiously, wanting to pacify her in case she was hostile.
But, Obito had to admit, she was beautiful.
« Ah, bonjour. Pourriez-vous dire où cette place est ? »
“What?” He uttered. There wasn’t a single word that he understood. Then, he saw her mutter something in a low voice, almost as though she was talking to someone else. “Could you repeat that?”
She tilted her head to the side in what seemed to be confusion.
« Qui êtes-vous ? La question est simple, non ? »
“Excuse me, what was that? I don’t understand.”
« Qui êtes-vous ? Et cette place, où est-il ? »
Obito could tell that the girl was frustrated. But he couldn’t do anything since he couldn’t understand what she was saying. But what still baffled him was that the silverette was constantly asking him questions. Is it that she’s an idiot? It’s clear that neither of them can understand each other, so why was she so persistent? But more importantly, where the hell did she come from?
But he chose to ignore her. With a spin on his heel, he dashed away from her, wanting to escape. After all, she could be a pirate pretending that she doesn’t understand him to gain sympathy or something. He slammed his hand on the nearby alarm and kept running. While running, he looked back, but much to his horror, the silverette was following close behind him. She wasn’t giving up.
« Monsieur ! Attendez ! Arrêtez ! Aidez-moi, s’il vous plaît ! » The girl shouted at him. A manly shriek escaped his lips when he found that she was chasing him. « Monsieur ! Je suis perdu ! Aidez-moi ! »
This caused Obito to stop. He didn’t know what she said, but there was a plea in her voice. He looked at the girl and saw the distress in her face. He was no master at knowing who was genuine from who was not, but there was something telling him that this girl was genuine.
“I…” He started but he couldn’t bring himself to say anything.
« Merci. » The girl panted as she placed her hands on her knees. When she recovered, she then addressed him once again. « Je m’appelle Hatake Kakashi. Et vous ? Comment vous appelez vous ? »
Yet again Obito was dumbfounded. But given the gesture of the girl, he deduced that she was introducing herself to him.
“I’m Obito.” He replied albeit timidly. “Uchiha Obito.”
« Obito ? » the girl he assumed to be ‘Kakashi’ said. He nodded. « Ensuite, Obito, parlez-moi beaucoup. Parlez-moi tout de chose. » While she was saying this, she gestured to her mouth. Once again, Obito deduced that she wanted him to talk but about what?
“Sorry, I don’t know what to say.” He responded. But then, an idea flashed into his mind. Since she didn’t seem to be dangerous, as, if she were truly a pirate, she would’ve shown her true colours since the alarm went off. But, she’s totally unaffected by it.
“Obito! What’s happen…” The words on the man’s lips died when he saw Kakashi. “…ning?”
“Who’s she?! A pirate?!” Another shrieked. “How the fuck did she get in here?!”
“No! I mean, I don’t know but she’s not hostile!” Obito shouted back.
“How do you know that?! Step away from that bitch!”
“Maybe we can ―!” Obito broke off when he felt himself being lifted upwards and thrown over Kakashi’s shoulder.
Kakashi couldn’t stay here any longer.
Due to the alarm, a lot more of the humans were coming and frankly, she wanted to deal with this without so many of them surrounding her. She could always call on Pakkun for help, but she decided against it. She was already trespassing on their domain, she couldn’t make it worse. So, with a quick movement, she grabbed the man named Obito and threw him over her shoulder.
She had no idea where she was going, but she didn’t stop. Obito was twisting and squirming in her grip but she dared not release him. Until he eventually stopped but kept talking. And of course, she couldn’t understand him. But, the more he spoke, the more data Pakkun would receive so she often time replied, just to get a response.
[There are shouts of reproducing with one’s mother. And of the female genitalia.] Pakkun said, as the angry humans rushed at her. [And of sanctified excrement.]
“Ugh! Are they a barbaric tribe? That’s disgusting!”
Just then, she heard Obito repeating one word over and over, until Pakkun instructed, [I believe he means to turn to the left.]
Running down the hallway of rusty metal, she then heard Obito again, this time, saying a different word repeatedly.
[Turn right, Lieutenant.]
Soon, the only path she had to take was the stairs, and from prior experience, she knew the stairs would lead some place with the ocean in the background. But, it was better than being trapped and possibly cornered in this place full of rust. Bolting up the staircase, she found that it was a dead-end. It was either she’d jump off the ship or turn back to face those barbarians.
Now, the raven-haired young man finally escaped her grasp and stood a few steps away from her. Strangely, she didn’t detect any anger in his eyes, only pity and surprise, maybe?
“Is this what you want? To corner me?” She asked, knowing full well, he wouldn’t understand.
He didn’t reply, instead, Kakashi saw him put both his hands in front of him, as if showing that he has no weapon. Of course she already knew he had no weapon. What can this primitive place do to her anyway?
But then, he brought his hands down, slowly, and kept repeating the action. Kakashi was at a loss. What was that supposed to mean? And he wasn’t talking anymore so Pakkun still didn’t collect as much data as he should.
“ Ich will nicht, dass du in Panik gerätst. Beruhige dich einfach und wir werden etwas ausarbeiten, okay?”
His voice was soft, and relaxed so Kakashi thought he was telling her something reassuring. Or something that didn’t entail her jumping off. However, that was short lived when a whole host of the humans emerged from the door with various―are those weapons?―in their hands, pointing at her. Additionally, there were about five metal machines coming from both side of the deck. They were made out of metal and was generically humanoid in shape but was much cruder than Pakkun. The armour was heavily plated and from what she could see and from what Pakkun analysed, there were small projectiles stored within the arms of these machines.
“This has got to be a joke.” She mumbled to herself. Were those things supposed to be this place’s machine calibres? If so, then, she’s going to show them just what an annihilation machine is. “Pakkun.”
From that one command, the machine calibre emerged from the hangar to hover behind Kakashi. The look on the humans’ faces would’ve been priceless if the situation was not so dire. Pakkun then stood in between her and the other Humans, as if acting as a shield.
When Obito saw the flying Yunboro hovering behind Kakashi, he was awestruck. Seeing it laying in the hangar and seeing it in action were too different things. This Yunboro was impressive. And this sealed it that Kakashi was truly from outer space.
« Dis-leur qu’on ne veut pas de mal. » Kakashi said. Obito was about to respond when he heard a deep voice from her Yunboro.
[Lower your weapons. We mean no harm.]
“There’s another one of them that can speak our language?! Come out, bastard!” One of the men barked angrily, raising his rifle in the air.
“ No! Everyone stay calm!" Obito shouted at them, before turning back to face her. “Sorry, but you scared us, can we start over?” He used a calmer tone, trying to negate the outburst from earlier from his Fleetmate. Deep down, Obito prayed that the Hokage came quickly because if Kakashi were to get angry and displeased with everything, things could get ugly. After all, her Yunboro looked dangerous. “Like I said, my name is Obito and yours is Kakashi, right?”
Obito saw her mumble something before the voice from the Yunboro replied, “Yes, my name is Hatake Kakashi, Lieutenant in the Galactic Alliance army.”
“Oh. So, where are you from? And how did you get here?” Obito inquired. There was a part of him that knew the answer, but he wanted to hear it from Kakashi herself.
She didn’t answer, nor did the one inside the Yunboro. Instead, she pointed to the sky.
Obito’s eyes widened with shock. “From…” he started, throat suddenly tightening as he swallowed the lump in his throat. “…space?”
Obito had a feeling this was going to be a long day.
