“Hurry up! We are going to be late…again.” Your friend, Mark, yelled up the stairs to you. His voice carried to your ears, his tone sounding mundane with no sense of urgency. Mark was used to you being late to everything, so reminding you of the time was more of a nicety at this point. Time always seemed to slip away from you. Your excuse was that you took on too much. You were a straight A student, but that was not enough. The top schools didn’t care for just perfect grades, so you ended up filling your days with community service hours, decorating your resume with extracurricular activities to set yourself apart. The school you had your eyes on loved to pick students who were a part of their community, who showed good morals and had a sense of stability. This, and this reason only, is the reason you found yourself at church every Sunday. You weren’t religious, you weren’t one for organized religion, but you knew the school of your dreams favored ones who were. So here you were, throwing on a flowing summer dress, that was almost too risque for church, but covered enough to be allowed, and running down the stairs to the ever so patient, Mark. Mark took one look at you before shaking his head and turning towards the door. “One day, they won’t let you passed those holy doors.”
