This is where my story begins
It had seemed like….well, not a good plan. Anyhing borne of enough desperation that one man was trying to steal something from a Corporation was not a good plan to begin with. But it had seemed doable. He knew the location of what he was trying to steal, had a route in and out. Had his escape plan timed out, and would be using the Corp’s own famously reliable transportation to get away.
He’d even had a backup escape plan. They weren’t cheap and he’d only get one use out of it, but the little teleporter would shunt him away from any danger too severe.
It had all seemed to be going so well, till the end. Once he got on the train it should have just been a quick ten second journey before he’d be five districts over and trying to find a buyer for the suitcase-sized box he’d swiped.
It hadn’t been ten seconds. He’d lost count after what seemed like ten days, and by that point some of the other passengers were starting to panic and fights were breaking out among the passengers more and more. Eventually he couldn’t keep himself out of the melee.
He got hurt. Not fatally, but bad enough that the next one might be. The escape device didn’t know where he was, or where it was aiming at, only being concerned with getting him away from the current danger on the train.
Ceryx found himself no longer on the train, which was already a good improvement. He had no idea where he ended up but it was a great deal less violent so he’d at least have time to figure that out.
