Me, sketching marcille to brainstorm a possible future wip: mmh, this doesn't look quite right.

Me: *stares hard at it to figure out why*

Me: oh

Me: *erases her smiley face and replaces it with a downturned D frown*

Me: yeah, that's more like the marcille we know and love

She's happening btw. I already have all her colors. I just need to restock my pink (and maybe yellow?) since I have too little

Soon 💪 can't wait to make my cringefail disaster lesbian daughter 💙 I wanna make her a posable doll so that'll be fun

I finished her base body! She is... Very pink. Turns out my local yarn supplier won't restock my favourite brand so I had to make do with the new color options...

Btw she needs clothes asap. Right now she's cosplaying the bath scene (minus the hair I guess. Shaved for her crimes with ancient magic 😈)

Update. She's no longer nakey

I might sacrifice accuracy and axe her hood tho, depending on how much of a bump she'll have on her back once I add her hair

More pictures of the other parts of her outfit cause she's more layered than an onion and I didn't play a game of yarn chicken for two days only for me not to show the fruit of my labour

It's a bit like playing dress up with barbies again. But with yarn. And some cursing

Thinking back on how Touya and AFO's only semi-direct interaction b4 shit hit the fan was basically this:

..... AFO really saw a kid with a living family and a developed sense of self and said "you know what I can't work with this >:\" lmfaoooo

I feel like something that really works for Dungeon Meshi is that all the characters are good at their jobs from the beginning. At the start of the show/manga the Touden party is one of the best parties in the business.

They got wiped in the first episode/chapter, but they got wiped on the 6th floor where we don't see another party on a floor lower than the 5th, castle town, even then the only group we meet is Shiro's who was part of the original party and super skilled. Shiro is an expert swordsman who went to the dungeon to test himself, he was the best fighter in the party and the ace to deal killing blows to dragons. Namari is a dwarf who is likely a better fighter than Senshi and takes better care of her equipment. Laios is a good fighter, maybe not the best, but he is good an super knowledgeable. Falin and Marcille are two top class mages, Marcille might be inexperienced as a practical caster, but by the time the series starts she is very powerful. Chilchuck is the leader/creator of the half-foot union, he is good at his job and has survived since he was a wide eyed kid to a grizzled old man who looks like a kid to other races. they were stacked at the start of the series and it makes sense why they are well known in adventurers circles.

They aren't newbies who are blessed with plot armor and being the main characters of the story. They are very powerful and experienced adventurers who just happen to meet the most powerful monster in the dungeon on empty stomachs. Even once the series starts, they're at a disadvantage not because they're lacking skills, just they lose two of the parties best fighters. Marcille, the parties mage, is easily able to knock out/kill a running mushroom that was giving a party of noobs a thrashing.

I get why a lot of stories start with young inexperienced kids, but sometimes its nice to read stories that star older heroes who are good at their jobs instead of something like a rookie red ranger situation. Especially now that I'm older

one thing i really appreciated early on was how these weren't competent jrpg fantasy characters either. they were competent old school dungeon crawlers that you'd see in early editions of D&D. they worry about attrition and resources, both in terms of food and with the casters have to regularly worry about running out of spell slots mana. Chilchuck is kind of the most valuable party member* much of the time, since combat is such a small part of actually getting through a dungeon compared to locating traps and unlocking doors and mapping things out properly

*thinking specifically abt before the party started eating monsters and senshi joined. in either case, noncombat skills end up being really invaluable in a way that a lot of fantasy anime kind of gloss over

Huge fan of how in Haikyuu every setter is absolutely off the walls insane w it and suga is Just a setter. No stressful mind games he’s just playing volleyball. Which trips up every OTHER setter so bad that he changes the entire game every time. I love suga

Any fave characters in dunmeshi?

Marcille is my favourite character! tho you might've already guessed that one ahah. She moves the plot around more than anyone else in the story, and I found that really refreshing. Especially after approaching dungeon meshi right after reading a manga that a friend once aptly defined "sausage fest" :'D I also love that Marcille is allowed to be both scarily strong, a bit of a crybaby, and also a huge loser at the same time. She contains multitudes. @ Male authors take notes

Other faves include Chilchuck (he's so no-nonsense. I love him so much), Kabru (he's so me with his people-watching and obsession about figuring out how others think, my god) and Mithrun (is it really surprising I like the guy with trauma?) :') I'm pretty fond of Laios as well, tho I wouldn't say he's a fave quite yet. He's halfway there tho

the whole cast is full of interesting characters, tbh. even those that didn't end up having a special place in my heart were lovable dumbasses and I enjoyed reading about them too

Dunmeshi fandom, I need help! Can anyone with good memory point me in the direction of a manga chapter / scene / extra where we see Marcille wearing her blue dress without her cape? I need to get a good reference for the top part of her dress/tunic, but I can't remember where we get a good look at it

Does the beginning of Ep12: Red dragon II work? When she's resurrecting Falin's body before her hair is down theres multiple shots and angles of the dress without cape

Yes, that's what I was looking for! Thank you!
