4. Is there a kind of whump you wish you could write better?

answered here , but the gist of it is i wish i could write everything better, but most specifically i wish i could write trauma-conversations better (or at all frankly).

11. Share one of your favorite whumpy scenes that you have written.

Here's part of one I really like! (from this thing)

Leo nods, his lips tight as tears flood his eyes, dropping down his jaw, onto his shoulders, some even rolling down his stomach and disappearing in to the water. He does let go, though, and brings his hands back into the tub. His arms are limp in the water, and his eyes go distant. 

“You’re fine, my Leo,” Ivan says. He presses his lips into the top of Leo’s head, then whispers, “Hold your breath.”

Leo gulps down air, nodding again, but he’s far away. It doesn’t stop Ivan.

Again and again, he pushes him under, watching hungrily as his body weakens and weakens and weakens. Every time he comes up, it’s less and less intense, until finally he comes up silently, sucking in soft breaths with a near lifelessness. Ivan holds his head above the water with one hand, more gentle now. Is the lesson learned, he wonders idly?

The tears don’t stop, but Ivan has a certain appreciation for them. He feels the muscles constrict under his hand. Tonight, Leo will curl up against him and sleep, the first time in days. And he’ll be fucking thankful for the relief. It’ll be bliss.

“You’ve had enough?” he asks, when Leo’s caught his breath the best he can. 

His boy hesitates. He’s shaking so hard, and has been, for so long. He doesn’t curl himself up anymore, he just waits. Terrified eyes meet Ivan’s, all blue and red, with fresh tears gathering even now, even when Ivan was sure he’d run out. “I don’t know,” he whispers. “I don’t– I don’t know.”

24. Do you have any whump pet peeves? Meaning things that just bug you when you see them in a fanfic.

I am generally unbothered by anything that takes place in the for-free fanfic/tumblr OC world. I'm MUCH more bothered by things in pieces that I pay for, but here are a couple things I am prone to side-eying:

I actually think that type of thing is the only thing I would consider a 'pet peeve', usually if something isn't working for me I just don't read it in fandom/tumblr/online reading.

I actually think Mike Faist is also giving some Minyard vibes here (which is who I initially thought you were talking about because I know nothing), in the cold assertive march toward violence. And I am in my Mike Faist era forever, so this was a treat do I need to watch this?

I think the weirdest rabbit hole I went down was when I was heavy into the book of mormon (musical) fandom, I went super niche on the missionary rules and read through their entire manual.

Usually I'm just researching dark/weird med whump things, or like prison systems in turkey, or looking up how far it is from some random location in russia or something to a supermarket. I am NOT well researched at all I believe fully in my E.R. (1994) medical degree and my vibes.

There are expected searches that anyone outside of my circle might think are super weird but everyone on here I think would say it completely tracks, things like if male patients ever need to use stirrups (lol), what the most dangerous prison in the world is and why, etc, but I don't feel like those are all that strange on here.

ALL WHUMP I WISH I COULD WRITE BETTER. I am TERMINALLY hard on myself and my ability to put words onto paper, and I read some stuff on here and absolutely envy what some folks can do with words. I think I have some specific strengths with writing, but I have so many areas that I feel like I wish I could figure out better. With regards to whump writing, I guess I specifically would like to be better at writing dialogue/conversations (particularly *hard* conversations), that I could be better at choosing words that evoke the imagery in my head, and that I felt less reserved in writing the truly graphic scenes that have been bopping around in my head for so many years.

WOW i am so impressed you went straight for the sunshine court ! there is a ton of fan service throughout it, i am so curious about how you did this and how it read to you, not having the context of the originals (although this one is much less exy-heavy, so i DO see how it could work on its own, its still VERY impressive).

all THAT said. i'm almost through my reread of the first 3, will finish on the plane tomorrow, and i HIGHLY recommend you and everyone else on this hellsite who likes m/m whump to have a go at it, it is flawed but beautiful.

!!! did you read the original trilogy or jump right into TSC? If you jumped right in, I have to know how you fared! (and also highly encourage you to go back and read the original series, while not quite as whumpy or well-written as TSC, they are LOVELY and contain way above average levels of whump). the author definitely is a fellow whump lover and it shows, im so thrilled she's writing again.

6. What are the traits of your ideal whumpee?

I like my whumpees to be 'good' people (I know there's some discourse surrounding this BUT I like an innocent kind gentle soul of a whumpee). That's my main prerequisite. They can have vices and 'bad' traits, but I need them to be sweet kind boys at their core.

7. What are the traits of your ideal whumper?

I tend to prefer them to be layered, and not mustache-twirling villains (although I fuck with a mustache twirler here and there, Kylie is one of the 'pure' villains that doesn't really have a human side she just kind of exists to make Leo suffer), I like to understand their motivations and what drives them to be the way they are/understand how they became the way they are/see them as human, even if the evil kind.

13. Have you ever felt insecure because you enjoy whump? How did you overcome that insecurity?

Yes! Answered this earlier but, like okay... sometimes people close to me will tease me (good naturedly), but they don't fully get what whump is to me or what elements of whump I like, and that's when I get to feeling the most weird about it. I'm trying to think of a specific example where my best friend saw something IRL that I wouldn't consider whump, and I do consider gross, and he was like 'that's whump' or something, and I felt poorly understood and like he thought I was a bad person who liked something I shouldn't like? It's stuff like that, where I get feeling insecure, but ultimately I can't do anything about my love of whump and I don't necessarily want to, either.

Second to that, I believe with my WHOLE heart, that a LARGE portion of the population likes whump they just don't admit it and/or realize it (or they're afraid of it). I don't think liking whump is all that abnormal at all, so I think that helps sometimes.
