so it helps to know that my mindset at the time was influenced by having been transphobically sealioned at a temping agency earlier, as well as spontaneously turning up to a different temping agency without an appointment & actually landing with them after THOSE guys turned out to be cool.

I was on the tram (crowded tram) (just after 11 AM) on my way home full of adrenaline still, and saw my dad eating a banana on the platform. I could get out of the tram to say hi, but then i'd miss the tram, or worse, hold it up. What i COULD do, however, is sprint out of the tram as soon as the door opens, take a bite from the banana my dad is holding, and SPRINT back into the tram before the doors close. So That Is What I Did.

unfortunately now roughly half of the passengers of the tram were looking at me like I was suddenly some sort of feral spirit of hunger or perhaps a strange insect of some sort.* Fortunately, the truth was also the ONE sequence of words that could make what they had just witnessed okay. I went "das ist mein papa!!!" which is german for "thats my dad!!!!!"

people on the left love to point out instances of hypocrisy because its easy and you never actually have to make an argument, but you always leave the door open. i don't know how this keeps happening, like everyone says "hmm isn't it strange that chuds say racial diversity in a fantasy setting is 'unrealistic' but they're fine with dragons and magic" without fucking thinking for even a second. like, that implies that realistic grounded historical fiction is fair game to be all white, right? like you never actually said whether diversity is good or not, you just offered a contradiction that can super fucking easily be remedied and cruised over.

i know im autistic and im focusing too much on the informational value of the words u are saying, i know its another instance of birdsong where ur just signalling an ingroup and wielding power over the outgroup, but please think. take things literally for once in ur life

part of the problem with science/medicine journalism imo is that people treat it like the point is just to rephrase the results section in lay terminology and consequently fail to provide context that's crucial to the actual interpretation. like, is this phenomenon new, does it occur in other circumstances, what are the typical outcomes in those circumstances, do these observations contradict previous mechanistic predictions or are they confirming something we already suspected, are there actions people could or should take in light of new information, is there increased or decreased risk to individuals in some way, is this the first study on it or is it an established pattern, and all of this is before you even get into questions about the study design / methodology / size. if you don't have any of this info you're communicating nothing of value to anyone who isn't already extremely plugged into whatever subfield. this is how people end up circulating claims that are like, true but being interpreted in wildly unsupported ways, and often the nature of the news economy means specifically the most terrifying interpretation possible is the one that circulates.

adding on that it’s good practice to do this in general. whenever I refer to a place in the Pacific Northwest in the U.S. I’ll get tags like “lmao I refuse to believe that’s the name of a real place” and it’s almost always a placename from a Salish language. it takes seconds to check, and you’ll steadily unravel internal biases in doing it.

It's actually crazy talking to friends and relatives about what's going on because very few of them know that this is a retaliatory attack. I keep seeing people online call the attack unprovoked too.

So those who don't know, on April 1st Israeli warplanes bombed Iran's consulate in Damascus. The attack killed 7 of Iran’s military advisers including 3 senior commanders.

This attack on the embassy is against international law. Embassies are protected sites. But instead of condemning the attack and putting pressure on Israel, the US has spent the past week and a half calling West Asian countries to put pressure on Iran, with Biden going as far as to warn Iran not to attack Israel and saying that his support for Israel is 'iron clad'.

The West, the UN, and UN Security Council have largely failed to condemn the attack which means Iran has no choice but to retaliate with force in order to prevent future attacks. Otherwise, the country will look vulnerable and weak, especially to the Israeli occupation government which has spent months bombing neighbouring countries like Syria and Lebanon

Never forget that this would not be happening had Biden reined in Israel in October '23 instead of giving them a blank check to attack anyone they please. At the very least there should have been consequences for Israel bombing an embassy.

Instead Biden promised iron clad support for Israel. We're now facing the possibility of a huge regional war that will devastate the lives of tens of millions of civilians in West Asia

iran has the right to defend itself

The amount of news sites I've seen do everything they can to not explicitly say Israel attacked the Iranian consulate is insane. Unsurprisingly they're all the ones who either subtly pushed the narrative that Israel is defending itself or outright said that Israel is entitled to self-defense.
