And I genuinely mean that. Even if the post only has like 10 notes at best. How much free time do you have to check the blogs of all 10 of those notes, and then go OUT OF YOUR WAY to message anyone who doesn’t fit your strict guidelines for human interaction. And I know some of y’all don’t just check but you DIG, because some of the stuff I get DMed about is not advertised on my blog as soon as you look at it.

How do you all survive outside of the internet when every persons political opinions and stances on fictional content aren’t displayed to you right off the bat.

Like I’m not kidding. That’s not normal. You are not the normal one in this situation. Please put your phone down for at least a week and go outside.

Consider this: Nazis need to shut the fuck up

Forcing someone to shut the fuck up because you don't like their ideas doesn't prove those ideas wrong and it doesn't convince that person not to hold those ideas.

Showing nazis how they are wrong gets rid of nazis, making nazis shut the fuck up only hides them from view. Do you care about evil ideas existing or do you care about seeing them and getting scared?

And given that you make an argument that would only work on someone who already agrees with you, I doubt your "talking over" or "mocking" Nazis would be any more effective.

Mentioning anti-vaxxers is pretty funny because we have contemporary examples of attempts of censorship, mocking, and silencing in wake of the covid vaccine and it didn't make those vaccine skeptics buckle--if anything they dug in and rates for covid vaccines plummeted and regular vaccines dipped as well. So they cited an example that absolutely proves their theory wrong without any self-awareness at all.

We also got to see, with the covid vax in specific, exactly how mocking and silencing the unpopular opinion can lead to an incorrect but popular opinion running rampant until suddenly the world is falling over itself trying to backtrack on their previous statements.

They went from angrily snuffing out the voices of everyone who disagreed with the status quo to casually appealing to be forgiven and forgotten for the mass hysteria that had them wishing death on their neighbors, friends, and family member instead of being willing to even hear (much less acknowledge) things that made them uncomfy.

I've said it a hundred times in as many conversations, and to make it really hit home I've used all manner of examples. If the non-voting woman, the oppressed black guy, the closet homosexual, the "crackpot" scientist, the destitute poor person, etc., etc., etc., weren't allowed to have their voices heard in spite of their opinions being unpopular and considered every bit as backwards/stupid/evil as we now consider the ideology of genuine Nazis...

... then many of the people I see spending their days validating the erosion of free speech and silencing of those they disagree with would still be voiceless, powerless, penniless, and sought for imprisonment or execution.

I remember one thread where someone claimed all social media censorship was justified, and only happened to bad people.

Yeah now that you point that out, 30% of our societal labor absolutely does not go into maintaining our living spaces. Even when you account for the fact that property owners then pay taxes which go towards local maintenance of infrastructure, that's just not the fraction involved.

the reason rent is so high is because of material reality: in material reality, not in a land of abstract class relations, the amount of housing is way way way too the fuck low due to massive government overhead actively preventing people from building new housing. because supply is constrained, but demand is not, prices go up.

the solution to this is not to scream until landlords decide to not be evil, the solution is not to murder an abstract class of people, the solution is to act on material reality and change the situation that caused this to happen. when there is not an absurd shortage of housing, the price will not be so high. so make it possible to build more housing instead of forbidding it and then screaming how the consequences of that are a malicious conspiracy by an abstract class deciding to be evil

So basically, Dolly the sheep was an accident. They were trying to clone sheep cells, and they ended up unintentally generating an embryo, which turned out to be viable, hence we got Dolly.

The method they used proved unsuccessful in primates, and the risk of cloning primates (and thus humans) outweighs the benefits (because there really aren't any real benefits, scientifically speaking), so they don't do it.

Where it's most likely to be used is in agriculture, cloning livestock embryos.

What they use cloning for is stem cells. Cloning adult cells to create stem cells means they don't need embryonic stem cells, which is probably the most important thing that came from cloning research in the past 25 years.

The reason it was so important was that it proved that you didn't need an embryonic cell to clone live animals. The nucleus of an adult cell contains all the DNA you need to clone, because Dolly was cloned from an adult cell, which was previously unheard of. Now they know that adults cells can be reprogrammed back to an embryonic stage, and was a major breakthrough for stem cell research.

So basically, we don't hear about cloning anymore because they aren't doing anything that is so exciting it will capture the world's interest, like Dolly did. But it was a major scientific breakthrough that is still very important.

One of my favourite cloned animals is Kurt, a Przewalski's Horse who was cloned from the preserved samples from a horse that died in the 90's so that he can hopefully introduce some additional genetic diversity into the Przewalski's Horse population. Oh hey there's actually two clones of this one horse now, the second one is Ollie who was born last year. Kurt is now about four years old. Last I checked he was at the San Diego Zoo.

We don't tend to clone animals that are more common because we already have a very efficient machine for making sheep, it's called sheep.

So while rewatching Avatar: The Last Airbender recently, I noticed a trend

A number of spirits we see have an animal form, specifically animals we recognize as "normal" for us. For example:

- Wan Shi Tong is an owl and his knowledge seekers are foxes

- Tui and La are koi fish

- Hei Bai is a panda

-The guardian of the mother of faces is a wolf (The Search)

Heck there's even the talking Baboon spirit and the monkey missing its face that we see in the Spirit World at the end of Season 1.

Basically every time we've seen a "normal" animal, they've been a spirit.

My point? I argue that Bosco is a spirit bear that's chilling and living the good life in the mortal world just because he can.
