i'm not a doctor or a nutritionist, but sometimes i hear women talking about their diets and it takes all i have to not be like "this is not normal. you have an eating disorder and you are in a cult."

saw a magazine article yesterday called something like "how i lost 3 stone without setting foot in a gym" and when i read it i discovered that the secret to her weight loss was... eating under 500 calories a day. girl that's not a diet that's just anorexia

and everyone's like "why are so many girls nowadays developing eating disorders" as if diet culture isn't an entire industry specifically designed to profit off women's misery and dysmorphia and self-hatred. this is the bad place!!!!!

If y’all could do me a massive favor. It turns out that the protestors who were arrested got banned from campus for one year which is a BIG deal considering graduation for some is quite literally two weeks away.

If you could call the office of ius president and say this is unjust and that the students and faculty deserve amnesty I would LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU

one time i told a guy with a huge punisher decal on his car that i loved the punisher but that i'm too scared to have any of his merch because in the current political climate i wouldn't want people to think i support killing police and the man had. no response whatsoever. he was smiling and completely frozen in place. i'd never seen anyone bluescreen that hard

do with this information what you will

prev wondering abt the amount of guts it takes to do this: the trick is to come off as incredibly sincere and kinda airheaded. now, crucially, i'm 4'11 and very cute so certain types of people already expect me to fit a very specific character type, and these techniques might not be as effective for others. but that's why i weaponize them on everyone's behalf

for those who are like me and don't know things

Not only does he kill cops, he specifically hates the kind who idolize him, since they're exactly the sort that cause the kind of corruption he's trying to combat.

why do celebrities get defensive when they get called nepo babies when there’s the objectively much funnier option of responding with “how dare you speak to me like that. do you know who my father is?”

I'm a type 1 diabetic. I require insulin to live, multiple times a day.

When I was in middle school, many years ago, we didn't have insulin pumps and had to use syringes and vials like everyone else.

The school refused to let me carry it with me, meaning I had to go to the nurses office several times a day to inject. It's not just before lunch but could be any number of times depending on the current blood sugar levels.

The district then cut nurse staff to just spending half a day at two schools, and the nurse left before I had lunch.

I asked the office staff to unlock the office so I could take my insulin and eat lunch. They refused.

By middle school, I'd been dealing with t1 for about 5 years, and didn't take shit on the topic. I went to the school lobby, picked up the payphone (I just dated myself) and called 911, telling them, "Hi, I'm at (school), am type 1 diabetic and the office won't unlock a door and let me take insulin."

They sent a fire truck, and a bunch of firemen met me outside and walked me to the office and asked, while ignoring the staff, which room was the nurses office. I pointed to the door and he was like, "Okay boys, chop it down, this kid need his insulin!"

Suddenly, the office secretary could unlock the door and I didn't need to put it in the nurses office everyday anymore.

End id.]

I love this story for everything within it.

One of my absolutely favorite things in the real world is to watch / participate in one portion of the government tearing into another portion of the government.

The school (extremely likely government institution, and if not, reports to several) says “let’s do this terrible thing” and the fire department (government institution) says “haha absolutely not"

I bring this up because one of the things I find missing

a lot

in the arguments of "we should tear down the ssytem"

is

one of your most powerful allies are the parts of the system that currently align with your current goals

(before you argue with me, please read that again, carefully)

If you want to get intensely nerdy with the law (it's fun) (to me) (not so much to the people I bother with my findings) look at

  • states suing other states
  • departments suing other departments
  • the states suing the federal government
  • the federal government suing states
  • (or your non-US versions of the above)

It's. Fantastic. And happens all the time.

Tear down the system?

Oh yes.

I love it.

Using every resource available.

Including the system itself :)

I spy, with my little eye, a photo that was faked by an AI image generator! Can you spot the clues?

FB is turning into a parade of fake AI images churned out by click-farming pages. More misinformation is on the way. Learn some tricks for spotting AI photos!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It pisses me off that AI is used for bullshit because this would be a genuinely great image in horror media. AI's lack of logic does surreal shit that human artists probably wouldn't think of. Imagine you're playing a computer game and you're walking down a road to no sound but the wind and it's beautiful but you already know from the game that things are Wrong and you look away from the rainbow to notice that the road signs read nonsense and the streetlight is oriented away from the road for no reason. And then the car with the mirror image number plates shows up and the driver offers you a lift, and it's not until you're climbing in that you notice how many fingers he has and how identical all the teeth in his smiling mouth are.

Y'all, the world is sleeping on what NASA just pulled off with Voyager 1

The probe has been sending gibberish science data back to Earth, and scientists feared it was just the probe finally dying. You know, after working for 50 GODDAMN YEARS and LEAVING THE GODDAMN SOLAR SYSTEM and STILL CHURNING OUT GODDAMN DATA.

So they analyzed the gibberish and realized that in it was a total readout of EVERYTHING ON THE PROBE. Data, the programming, hardware specs and status, everything. They realized that one of the chips was malfunctioning.

So what do you do when your probe is 22 Billion km away and needs a fix? Why, you just REPROGRAM THAT ENTIRE GODDAMN THING. Told it to avoid the bad chip, store the data elsewhere.

Sent the new code on April 18th. Got a response on April 20th - yeah, it's so far away that it took that long just to transmit.

And the probe is working again.

From a programmer's perspective, that may be the most fucking impressive thing I have ever heard.

It's actually even wilder than the above description suggests: They didn't just avoid the bad chip, they can't. It's too important and it's not like they can go resolder the computer now.

They instead mapped out which parts of the memory chip are bad (about 3% of it), and rewrote all the code using that chip to avoid those sections. The probe is still using the bad chip! it's just only using the parts that haven't failed yet.

It's like having a car that was in an accident and can't turn right anymore, so instead of repairing it you just map out a new route to work that involves only left turns.

It's frankly amazing that they were able to do this, especially since all their diagnostics they ran to figure out which parts of the chip were bad HAD TO RUN ON THAT EXACT SAME CHIP.
