Call me Toast or Toasty • multifandom, but lots of royjamiekeeley & Ted Lasso • my fic on AO3 • my fandom stats on AO3@toastystats is my fandom stats-only side blog • A note to coworkers/family: If I did not tell you about this blog, let's just pretend you never found it, and let's never, ever, ever have awkward conversations about my fanfic, or slash, or god forbid omegaverse or something. All right? Great! :) • Icon modified from Jeph Jacques’s Questionable Content • Header by @lumikat

Fandom stats (sideblog: @toastystats ) -- I gather and share fandom data for fun! My fandom stats on AO3 include:

If you want to do similar analyses, you may want to use the spreadsheets I generated from the AO3 Selective Data Dump. You can also reuse any of my data and cite any of my posts. I also have code on Github for scraping archives (warning: very old at this point, not well maintained). Also see my tutorials.

Fic and other writing -- I write fanfic, often polyamorous (I accidentally wrote a long Ted Lasso OT3 fic, and then another; I also wrote a Sherlock OT3 longfic). I blog about my cats, who were once feral kittens. I have greatest hits.

Unusual new gummies discovered during @destinationtoast's trip to Tokyo! I grabbed them impulsively without looking too closely ("Cat? Cat = Toasty!" was about the extent of my thought process), so when we opened them, I was surprised by their gimmick! The label says 毛糸玉 [けいとだま] からねこ!? / "From a ball of yarn, a cat?!" and I was like, huh. Cat from yarn. What could that mean?

Well.

Is there something in there? It looks like there could be something in there. Unclear if it's actually cat-shaped though. Certainly not to the extent it is on the package art. Right?

After careful exploratory surgery (nibbling with our incisors, the way a waitress in Shimane bullied/taught me to eat a fish eyeball [like an ear of corn except the cob is a sphere encompassed inside another sphere and the outer sphere is not kernels of corn but a gelatinous mass]), we could see that there was, in fact, a little purple gummy inside of the yellow gummy!

Gently, we squeezed him forth and birthed him.

And he was recognizably a cat! Mostly! Right?

It was impressive and surprising. And by the time we were done, it was snowing outside! And we were all a little tipsy. All in all, slightly unreal. But such a fun afternoon with a friend who is usually so far away!

I have not stopped thinking about these, nor that delightful afternoon!! Every time I have had an American gummy snack since (or even gummy vitamins), I have thought back to this superior gummy technology. I was SO surprised when I squeezed and the first cat emerged. 😹😹

(Though now I'm also not going to be able to stop contemplating eating fish eyeballs... that's a very evocative description! 😯)

AO3 in popular culture

Neither Wikipedia nor Fanlore have this subsection in their AO3 entries, which makes me sad. I'm aware of N.K. Jemisin's use of "Tales of Our Own" in Far Sector

And I just found this gem in Django Wexler's Everyone Wants to Rule the World But Me:

"Fun fact for readers from the future: Before AO3 was a benevolent government ushering in world peace and prosperity for all, it was a fan-fiction archive! [star] THE MORE YOU KNOW [star]"

Anyway, I'm interested in other sightings in the wild, especially in visual media/moving pictures. Please add any of which you are aware!
