(I was busy yesterday so I couldn't just scroll on Facebook for all of the updates like I have been, so I have a lot for today)
They ended up shutting down the Adair County (the county that Greenfield is located) landfill. I'm not sure why and I'm not sure for how long, but they have listed other dump sites for the debris to be dropped off at for the time being as people work to pick up the pieces.
If you want one of the shirts from the link I posted, you still have a few days to order it!
Several other places have also made shirts but most of them aren't giving nearly as much back into Greenfield as the link I posted (some of em are charging like. $25/shirt and are proudly claiming that only $1 of that is going back to Greenfield 🙄).
Item donations (like clothes, food, cleaning supplies, etc) are still shut down, however there are some people in the greater surrounding area that have started collecting such items for the point in time when all of that stuff is going to be needed again.
Things like car seats and (brand new) mattresses have started to pop up for people to get as needed.
There are also several people offering their spare rooms/extra properties/campers to people who are still looking for somewhere they can more permanently settle into until they get their home back. A lot of these people (not all) are offering these spaces for free.
Tide was there with portable laundry mats that they were running for free (not sure if they're still there).
Duracell also sent someone with a lot of batteries for people who need them.
Greenfield was approved for FEMA support.
Churches from surrounding areas have started sending in sack lunches for people.
Businesses are still out there providing meals for victims/volunteers.
They are still only allowing people in who have a direct contact to Greenfield and are there to help with the clean up process. Much to the frustration of my aunt who tried to get in because that's where our closest grocery store is (within like. A 30-45 minute radius or something) but they wouldn't let her despite the fact that the store is currently functioning normally. Just kind of an example of how strict they're still being with those things. They aren't even allowing journalists in. You either have to have a direct contact in Greenfield or you have to be a certified contractor.
We have also had our first case of someone taking advantage of the situation. Someone stole the stereo/speakers out of someone's truck. This someone had already lost their entire home and the truck was damaged (they did not say how damaged).
There are several places that are offering childcare for people helping clean up/going back to work/figuring out a plan for their next step. People have been donating to these temporary daycare centers so the kids have toys/activities while they're at these places. There are also places working to get some day camps going for kids to have those activities going. These day camps are asking for volunteers who are 18+ to come help with them.
There are several places that are putting together fundraisers like color runs for Greenfield and there are some places that are changing where the money they get for events that were already previously planned to go into Greenfield instead of wherever it was gonna go before.
Once again, thank you to everyone who has rebloged/donated to the links above. It really, really means a lot to me that you all have been helping my little town out, even if all you can do is spread the word of how people can help. With everything going on, if you want to help, the best thing you can do is donate to the Greenfield Foundation link that I will post down here so you don't have to scroll all the way up to the top to get again. This link goes directly to the PayPal instead of to the website.
They have made a lot of progress towards getting the town cleaned up, but there is still a very, very long way to go. I would appreciate if you could continue to boost this post, that would be amazing.
