Grimcookies x Deligracy

I already made a post on twitter but I just wanted to cover it here because I think it’s important to recognize. So before I get started I’m just gonna give some basic info to like give some background to why I think this is problematic and harmful to simblr. Lana cc finds, before they died, was the string that tied simblr together and boosted small blogs and larger blogs equally. She is the blog many YouTubers used to find new cc because she was accessible and easy to use. But when she died it become exceedingly harder to make sure that simblr was balanced in the way blogs were promoted and cc was spread. In a way it broke the economy of simblr and made it easy for blogs with already large followings to take a monopoly over their specialization of cc. But this didn’t happen for many reasons. For example, ridgeport is a very popular blog, and many youtubers use marg’s cc selectively. But she uses her influence to reblog recolors, and uplift the work of small blogs. She has a cc finds and make sure that everyone gets their credit.  I feel that this is the responsibility of larger blogs once lana died. Also even before lana died Youtube was simblrs window out of its niche community to a much broader audience. Anything featured in a cc finds video was bound to get more notes and more engagement. With lana, it was very influential in how a blog grew. Unfortunately without lana, and her easy to access catalogue of everything on simblr, youtubers have failed to diversify from the blogs they are familiar with and have really only been choosing the name brands of simblr which I’m not saying anyone is bad or their cc isnt quality. I am just saying that this is unsustainable to foster the growth of new blogs and create a community were new quality creators are featured.  Now that ive kinda gotten over like an explanation of how simblrs economy works to anyone who isnt familiar with it I’m going to start to explain how this collab is problematic. 

First things first, this is not a normal collab. it isnt like any of grimcookies other collabs. It is not a mutual contribution towards a product where both creators make things and work together. Deligracy’s only involvement in this collab was telling grim what she wanted made, and slapping her name on it…. along with promoting it to her much wider audience. This is apparent through the way the collab is described. Deli never takes credit for any cc and says that its some essentials she needed in her game. This description in its self is harmful because it shows how separated simblr and youtube is rn. The fact that deligracy needed to tell another creator to make her some bike shorts, and a sports bra instead of looking for bike shorts and a sports bra shows how the youtube community doesn’t respect simblr or its creators enough to put any effort to finding new creators. And this brings up the question “just be happy for them its new cc, everyone will make these, now u have someone elses spin on it!” well no… not exactly. This is valid in a collab between two cc creators, but this is all grimcookies work with deligracys name stuck on it. She asked him to make these things for her. She has made it clear in her video that this cc was so she could have some basic items in her game… and in a quieter voice yours too. But this isnt a collab more than it is a commission that she slapped her name on. She asked a big simblr who she was familiar with to make her items, instead of promoting smaller lesser known creators who have made these items already.

This is like if a big makeup brand worked with James Charles to dupe a small brands products. It is harmful and isnt at all about two creators meeting up to make something great. Deligracy cant make cc…. so why collab with her. Her following that’s why. The only way anyone would collab with someone only to have them slap their name on ur work is if they are getting something out of it and it is apparent that this was for deligracy’s much larger audience.  Like i said earlier simblr is niche, only know to cc fanatics and creators…. youtube is the main output of content for the simming community. This is where grim will find a larger audience and a place to promote his patreon to new people. 

So first this is harmful to smaller creators, but it also looks like a reach for engagement. 

I would never claim this without being sure, but grimcookies in his past has done nothing to promote smaller blogs, or share with his following the cc he uses. I know from experience that he can use multiple of ur cc pieces in his lets play or a video but never give u light of day or a follow. I saw in one of his videos that my skirt had a glitch and fixed it, and when I tried to share it with him… I couldn’t because he only accepts dms from people he follows. I don’t hold him in contempt but it does say something about him…. and it don’t say nuthn good.

I know that many will see this as a personal attack on grimcookies but im not trying to attack him. He makes great cc but he needs to understand the extent of his actions and their impact. As a creator you have a responsibility and you need to recognize that this move was not the best. It only ostracizes simblr from youtube more. Also collabing with someone who has made racist, and transphobic things doesn’t look great either. Just do better and try harder as a creator to give back to the community that u succeed in. 

If you guys want youtube creators that promote cc well and consistently, I recommend urban and oshin sims.
