Corc Yoga finds solid ground in Los Angeles, California

With June underway, in Los Angeles, that can mean only two things, here comes the heat and a slight reprieve from the Monday through Friday horrendous traffic, but why? Because now the kids are out of school, the days are longer and hotter, and that also means more time to get out, enjoy nature and more importantly, break a sweat.

Luckily for those individuals, like me, who live in Los Angeles, there’s no shortage of opportunities to get your sweat on. From the valley to the sea--we’ve got every kind of gym you can think of. If cycling’s your aerobic exercise of choice try Sweatshoppe, Cyclebar, Beat bike, SoulCycle. Maybe you’re more into full-body? No problem, There’s a CrossFit gym on every corner. Looking to tone up and slim down? Do it with yoga, from Hot 8 to Yogaworks, Corepower and everyone in between--you can imagine, the options are endless.

Along with all the choices of gyms, come all of the accessories to go with them. It’s enough to make anyone’s head spin, there’s just too much, too much of everything, and anything in excess can seem overwhelming, and let’s be honest, a bit wasteful.

It’s great to stay fit, feel good and do good for yourself, but what about keeping our earth fit and feeling good, too? There are so many ways to minimize the impact we have on this earth while we are here, today, I’m only going to talk about one of them.

Yoga mats, did you know the average Yoga mat never biodegrades? That’s because more often than not, the average yoga mat is made with PVC, (polyvinyl chloride), yup, and it’s chalk full of phthalates, cadmium, and lead. It’s not only extremely bad for the environment, but it can be extremely harmful to you, too! Just think, as you move through your practice, you are taking deep breaths, those breaths can intake the chemicals that leach out of each yoga mat made from PVC. Sure, there are some places that can recycle PVC, but it’s plastic, and difficult to recycle. So that beautiful yoga mat you covet so dearly will be here long after we are all gone.

Thankfully, companies are working to recycle yoga mats, turning them into useful items like sandals, purses, and bags, like Sanuk. But what about the yoga mats themselves? Enter, Corc Yoga, founded by wife, mother, and yogi Christine Moghadam.

Corc Yoga is a fully biodegradable, earth-friendly, non-slip, hypoallergenic line of yoga mats. The brand was founded just this year after Christine and her family took a trip to Portugal, where they fell in love with the people and the process of harvesting cork.

“The process of producing cork takes decades. Cork Oaks remain untouched for up to 30 years and are then harvested every nine years, allowing the natural process of maturing to occur. That means cork trees are never cut down to harvest cork, they are carefully shaved where the natural bark can grow back.” - Corc Yoga

Thankfully, we’ve been fortunate enough to learn more about Christine’s love for the brand and passion for cultivating an organic line of products; anyone can be proud to use.

WFTR: Why did you decide to launch Corc Yoga?

Christine:  I’ve been fortunate to travel all over the world but immediately fell in love with Portugal. During my travels there, I found that Portugal was the largest producer of cork and discovered so many things could be made from this material.  I loved that it was a sustainable product and learned that Portugal's carefully regulated cork industry creates high-wage seasonal jobs for more than 10,000 workers.

WFTR: What was your initial inspiration for starting the brand?

C: The inspiration for Corc Yoga came from my love for travel when I surprised my husband with a trip to Portugal for the first time. Last summer, in 2017 I began to find more time for yoga, and as a mom of 2 boys, it became a great source of relaxation for me =).  I tried a cork yoga mat that I bought from a Portuguese distributor and didn't like it. So, I wanted to find a way to improve it and that’s when I thought, why not create a better one and sell our own?

WFTR: How long did it take for you to research and design the product before you could bring it to market?

C: I spent a year researching more about cork and contacting multiple manufacturers in Portugal to see what we could create out of this amazing material that would fit the US market. My team and I spent time researching the market to see if cork yoga mats could be a possible opportunity for us. I returned to Portugal last summer where we spent a month meeting with manufacturers, stayed in the cork forest and finally met our manufacturer.  With his knowledge and expertise, he was eager to establish a partnership and produce yoga mats for us.

WFTR: How do you hope to use Corc Yoga for good?

C: Portugal has a very special place in my heart,  having been raised by entrepreneurs, I learned that giving back is truly a part of smart-business.   Currently, my mission is to be a sustainable business that gives back toward youth mental health in Portugal. I also love partnering with smaller businesses/factories because it continues to provide jobs and income for families.

WFTR: What other products do you foresee launching?

C: In addition to yoga mats,  I am currently working with a factory in Turkey to produce Turkish towels for yoga and another factory in India that is producing yoga mat bags out of organic Hemp. Another cork product coming soon is a backpack designed to hold our yoga mats. This backpack is being produced by a cork manufacturer in Portugal that is operated by only women, that only supports the smaller cork factories.   WFTR: There have been rumors circulating for years regarding the depletion of “over-corking,” that cork is in short supply. Will this impact your business and do you anticipate creating alternative earth-friendly products in the future?

C: Regarding whether we will produce alternative mats in the future -  our plan is to continue with cork but also seek alternative sustainable materials as needed - this would be based on the knowledge and information that our manufacturer gives us. I have learned from the Cork Association in Portugal that the large cork suppliers who are monopolizing all the small businesses are creating this false sense of desperation that the cork supply is running low.

For now, it appears the line is focused on conservation and working towards a greener approach to providing earth-friendly products that anyone can carry. Fit and Fabulous

An interview with Paris Fashion Week model Madeline Stuart.

In honor of International Women’s Day, which was March 8th, I wanted to highlight a woman who embodies everything that is fearless, fit and fabulous. Someone who breaks down barriers, who isn’t afraid to be authentically herself, and who leads with her heart in everything she pursues.

I first met Madeline in 2017 at a charity event for the Special Needs Network. I was blown away and captivated by her poise, composure, and ability to captivate an audience with her words. She is the perfect example of what it means to stand up for yourself and for others. She’s the perfect example of what it means to fight for what you believe in and most of all, to fight to expose the harsh realities and biases that still exist in today’s world.

She is strong and independent. She is fit and she is fabulous! She is Madeline Stuart. In our first one-on-one interview with the model, activist, and fit-fatale we discuss everything from society’s prejudice, breaking down stigmas, fitness routines, meal-prep and what she hopes for the future.

1) Madeline, it's clear you are someone who breaks down barriers and stands as a shining example of what it means to be fearless. You are a true inspiration to many. How have you dealt with the challenges and obstacles you've faced in order to get to where you are today?

MS: I work hard and never say I can’t do something because of my disability, I sometimes don’t do it as quick as the next person but I will get there in the end if you give me a chance. I think the biggest obstacle has been weight, I was very overweight before I started modelling and did not have the energy to do the things I do now. I travel three quarters of the year and I could have never done that if I was not fit as it is exhausting.

2) As a women who defies societies traditional limitations of what you can and cannot do--what do you have to say to those individuals who stand to challenge your ground-breaking career? Do you come up against criticism from others and how do you defend yourself?

MS: Yes of course only today an organisation in London who represent models with disabilities called models of diversity told me when I reached out about a job in the UK they had tweeted about that I was not suitable as they were only hiring high-end models with disabilities, I was very shocked as I do not know of another model with a disability that has worked as much all over the world as me, it is hard to be rejected by someone that is not in the diversity industry but to be told that by a company that represents models with disabilities it is heart breaking. I am still confused what a high-end model with a disability is. As far as defending myself well the only way to do that is to prove people wrong so I will work harder and longer until I am taken seriously by those who do not believe in me yet.

3) What do you hope others will learn from your experience?

MS: I hope people learn that anything is possible if you work hard and stick to your goals, I see a lot of my friends start doing one thing and then if it does not work quickly they move onto something else. Don’t get me wrong everyone should be realistic so I doubt I would ever be a Victoria Secret model even though that would be amazing and a dream come true but I will not hold my breath. I also hope people will learn that everyone is capable if you give them a chance, when designers first look at me they think I will not fit into their clothes as I do not look skinny but I am a sample size or a 0 in the USA so I fit perfectly, we need to make fewer assumptions and stop judging people without giving them a chance.

4) What would you say to someone who is struggling with personal body image struggles, judgment, or possible fear of rejection from others? (In terms of getting out there and exercising)?

MS: It is hard to start an exercise routine, I struggled when I first started, I swam in the pool every day and now I hate it, I then started working out with a personal trainer and I loved it, you need to find something you love so you enjoy it, there are so many ways to do exercise but we need to do it to keep fit so we can live a healthy life. If you are scared of judgment than try to remember that you are not the only one, there are very few people out there that do not fear judgment on some level, we are our worst enemies sometimes

5) Why did you decide you wanted to get fit?

MS: I have 3 holes in my heart and a leaky valve so it is necessary if I want to live a long life, I also wanted to keep up with my friends that are very active. I was very uncomfortable when I was heavier and I did not like it.

6) Do you have a favorite athlete, if so, who is your favorite?

MS: Not really a particular athlete, I do have a favourite sport which is Cricket but unless you are Australian you will not understand the passion with cricket.

7) What is your favorite music to listen to when you work out?

MS: I love pop music, in particular Lady Ga Ga and Sia.

8) Do you have a favourite workout routine or a routine that is fun for you?

MS: I love boxing and doing the battle ropes but as long as I am in the gym with my friends I am happy.

9) Do you meal prep? If so--what does your typical diet consist of on any given day?

MS: My mum makes all my meals, I am very habitual with my routine, I have either cornflakes or eggs on toast for breakfast then for lunch, it is always a grilled chicken wrap with white meat and vegetables or salad for dinner. Snacks are fruit or sometimes a banana smoothie made with skim milk, ice and banana. I try not to have bread, potatoes, pasta or rice after lunch.

10) Do you have a favourite post-workout go-to snack? If so, what is it?

Blueberries, I eat a small punnet every day when the season is right.

11) Do you cook at all? If so, what is your favourite meal to make?

I help my mum in the kitchen and my favourite meal to cook is a chicken Caesar salad, the best thing when I make it is I get to add extra cheese.

12) I hear you are working towards a bikini photoshoot, are you excited for that? Do you have a favourite designer swimsuit you'd like to wear?

I am actually talking to a company now so hopefully this will happen very soon. It is all a bit hush hush at the moment until everything is finalised. OF course they are my favourite.

13) Who is your all-time favourite model and why?

Karlie Kloss, she is not only beautiful but she is an amazing business woman and she inspires young women to believe in themselves and their minds.

14) Do you have any advice for younger generations of aspiring models? What would you say to them if they were here, today?

I would tell them to always believe in themselves, to never lower their standards just to get a job as they need to be proud of their work. I would also say that it is a very hard industry and they will need to have a thick skin to succeed and to work very hard.

Madeline is proof that anything is possible, the only limits we face--are the limits we place on ourselves. Being true to yourself and living the life you’ve always dreamed of are the keys to living a long, healthy and happy life. May we all press on forward in a similar fashion. Like Madeline, who proves every day, we are all warriors in our own right, fighting battles seen and unseen. What barriers are holding you back from accomplishing your dreams? Meet them head on and go fit, go fabulous!

STS Blue: Denim Days Are Here

In Los Angeles, we're lucky enough to have roughly, 340 to 354 days of beautiful sunshine each year. Aside from the 8-9 months of sweltering heat---from February to mid April--we get a break. Temperatures drop to a comfortable 65 degrees. Because of this, in LA, you can wear denim all year long. It's like a second skin for us Angelenos. In the city of angels, denim reigns supreme. With options from high-end to low--, you can get your fix anyway, any day from $65-465 depending on your budget.

To put it bluntly, there's no shortage of the coarse durable twill-woven fabric! There are brands of all ranges--most fall somewhere in either the high-end category or low end. But one brand that falls perfectly in the middle is STS Denim. Recently, the brand sent over a pair of their Emma Ankle jeans. Unfinished at the hem and embroidered with neutral tones to create a diamond design--they are so comfortable and hug all the right places without restricting movement. They're like your favorite well-worn jeans. The ones you go to time and time again--because they're easy to wear and if given the chance and right pair of heels can be worn from sun up to sun down! Price point for the pair will set you back hardly anything at all-- they come in at $59--and that's such an easy price point for a pair of clean and chic jeans.

Yes, they're that great. But if that weren't enough--they sent over a jacket to match. And no, I'm not sporting the duo a'la Brittany and Justin circa 2001. Who could forget that faux pas? I mean it read like a book titled,"Diary of a Red Carpet Disaster." But, that's not really the point--the point is--the jacket. It's a boxier cut than I'm used to---and at first, I wasn't entirely sure if I was going to love it. But I've been wearing it for the last 2 weeks almost every day, save for a few days here and there where I didn't want people to assume I was just wearing the same outfit for 2 weeks straight. It's slouchy and just the right amount of cool meets sexy. You can get your own Amanda Fray Hem Oversized Boyfriend jacket here. Plus, it's a total denim deal! It retails for $79 and you can't beat that price.

So if you're looking for denim that forgives and denim that says, it's cool to be chic. Then look no further than STS Denim. Locally made, Los Angeles craved. Visit my Instagram HERE to see our sneak peak of the jeans and jacket. Just watch our highlighted story titled: STS DENIM. Live by the brand’s motto: “Every Pair of Jeans Tells A Story.” What’s yours? Own some STS? Hashtag #denimdolls and visit: STSDENIM.COM

Scratch and Grain Baking Kits - Quick-Fix Baking At Your Fingertips

I’m excited to give Scratch and Grains Organic Baking Kits a whirl. That’s why today, I’m whipping up a batch of their delicious cornbread. Anyone who knows me can attest to the fact that--I just lovvve deliciously baked cornbread. It’s a versatile side dish that you can serve morning, noon, or night.

But, the truth is, I have a confession to make--I’ve been keeping a secret from all of you. Yeah, I can whip up a four-course meal with the crumbs from my pantry if push came to shove---but baking, baking is my kryptonite. I’m arguably and (probably according to Alex), one of the worst bakers in America. I try, don’t get me wrong--and sometimes the outcome isn’t half-bad. But the majority of the time, I’m burning blini’s, blintz, and pancakes in this house until the cows come home.

Which is why I am dying to give Scratch & Grain Baking Kits a go. They sent over 4 kits to try--and I’m telling you, yes, these were designed with mom and the kids in mind, but they’re also a troubled Baker's new cheat sheet and I have a feeling my new best friend in the kitchen.

The kits come with everything but the liquid ingredients and bakeware that you’d use. However, that said, they are perfectly portioned so there’s no, “oops, I added too much cornstarch to the mix,” type of accidents.

The directions are clear and precise and even come with cute illustrations on the box.

But what’s even more interesting and what I find to be so endearing, is that Scratch & Grain was founded by two amazing women, Leah and Taya and is based out of Portland, Oregon. Their kits are also healthy, organic, and half the price of other baking kits. Averaging roughly $5.49-$8.49 per box.

Scratch & Grain wants to revolutionize the baking experience, so that’s it’s not only easy but fun and enjoyable for the whole family. I’m sure you are wondering how the cornbread turned out---well, you’ll just have to wait and see--I’ll post the results on my Instagram story for you to see. Make sure to follow along on Instagram and tune-in to Twitter and Facebook for additional images.

Groove Life, Rings For An Active Lifestyle

My fiance and I spend as much time outdoors as our hectic-big-city-schedules can allow. We love hiking, climbing, and generally anything that will get your heart racing. When we got engaged, for the first time in the four years we’ve been rock climbing, I was genuinely nervous. “What am I going to do with my ring while I climb?” Not only that, I struggled with the idea that I’d snag the band on something outdoors while camping or hiking and there goes my finger.

So I started researching alternative options. Sure, I’m going to wear my engagement ring for years to come, but I shouldn’t have to restrict myself or refuse to engage in the activities that bring me so much joy, just because I’m worried about hurting myself or losing a ring---or worse--a finger.

                                     (Images provided by Groove Life)

Upon further Googling, I discovered that there were actually several companies out there that produce rings for active city-dwellers like myself. In fact, these companies weren’t just designing rings for the occasional athlete or part-time outdoor enthusiast, they were designing rings for the snowboarder, the equestrian rider, the everyday surfer, the agriculturalist, and anyone who requires the safety and security that silicone rings can provide. Yes, silicone.

One such company that’s taking this niche market by storm is Groove Life, based out of Soldotna, Alaska and founded by Alaskan outdoor enthusiast Peter Goodwin. The husband, father, and die-hard smoked salmon consumer wanted to create a product that would enable individuals--who pursue activities that require someone to be a bit more hands-on--the ability to continue to show their commitment to their loved ones while also displaying an understanding and commitment to leading an active lifestyle.

                                        (Images provided by Groove Life)

What they’ve delivered isn’t just a lightweight, breathable, comfortable alternative to a more traditional metal based ring. They’ve delivered a sense of freedom. Peace of mind. Now you can hit the road, trail, surf, or snow at ease.

Groove Life was kind enough to send us two custom alternative wedding bands--we just received them last week and couldn’t be happier! They truly are easy to wear, comfortable, and extremely smooth--I keep finding myself running my finger along the band--we aren’t wearing them full-time yet, but after we say I Do, I’m sure we’ll be sporting our Groove Life rings non-stop.

Did I mention that they are indeed customizable, you can choose from a multitude of colors--like pink/white, purple/pink, white, black/red, glacier-blue, orange...you get the idea. Then choose your size and whether or not you want an image, text, or monogram. The best part? They are so affordable you can swap them out daily if you wanted to.

The rings come in a modest black metal tin with white Groove Ring scrolled across the top. A crushed velvet stand holds each ring individually.

So, I’m dying to know---who’s ready to get Grooving? Look for Groove Life rings online or in select specialty retailers nationwide.

The Best Organic Facial In Los Angeles

Los Angeles is a mecca for spas; from high-end luxury multi-day options to day spas, there are plenty to choose from. Live in the Valley or on the Westside? No problem, there is a spa practically on every corner. However, like everything in life, no two spas are created equal. Some are a cut above the rest. The Organic Pharmacy, located in Beverly Hills, is one of those spas. Originating in London, and founded by Margo Marrone is the first of it’s kind. The Organic Pharmacy, with U.S. flagship stores in New York and Beverly Hills, “is the first pharmacy dedicated to all things organic.” (1) Much more than a shop for skincare, makeup, and health and beauty products--The Organic Pharmacy provides essential treatments for overall improved health and skincare both internally and externally.

(Image provided by Tracey Paul and Co. and Jenn KL Photography)

Having never experienced their line of organic products before, I was pleasantly surprised to learn about the benefits and experience their treatments firsthand. If you find yourself in and around Beverly Hills, do yourself a favor and make an appointment at The Organic Pharmacy. Akemi, expert skincare specialist, and esthetician for the brand will take care of you. Let them know, Dana sent you.

Upon arrival, you’ll notice the spa/shop has an extremely clean aesthetic, almost minimalistic and utterly designed with beauty in mind. Pristine white tiled floor-to-ceiling with mirror-lined shelves. Each product is softly lit from behind, creating a sort of glow to each product, beckoning you to pick each one up and take them home with you.

(Image provided by Tracey Paul and Co. and Jenn KL Photography)

I was pressed for time, so I went right in for my facial. I didn’t have much time to look over each product, although I would have loved to in greater detail. Akemi made sure I was comfortable and provided a consultation form for me to fill in before we got started. She was super sweet and made sure I knew what each product was before we began.

I settled in for my appointment, hit record and we were off! The first product Akemi used was the Organic Carrot Butter Cleanser. It was super soft to the touch, almost like velvet and then quickly melted with the heat from my skin, once applied. Akemi applied the Carrot Butter Cleanser in specific motions, which is explained in greater detail in the Discovery Kit, that I was gifted at the end of my treatment!

Next Akemi sprayed my face with an Herbal Toner, and removed any excess cleanser with a muslin cloth. She processed to apply the Peppermint Face Wash to my skin moving in circular motions. Then moving quickly, chose to apply the Flower Petal Mask. It smelled amazing and I started to relax fully, at this point.

(Image provided by Tracey Paul and Co. and Jenn KL Photography)

Once again, she applied the Herbal Toner to my skin. She explained this process helps each product to absorb into the skin and really lets the benefits of each product work themselves deep into the skin, beyond the surface layer of skin.

(Image provided by Tracey Paul and Co. and Jenn KL Photography)

Next, she applied the Manuka Face Cream, everything in the line has a unique and delicate smell. In addition to having a very specific purpose and use for each product. She continued to apply the face cream to my skin and tap, tap, tapped against my delicate undereye area.

Moving on, she applied the Skin Rescue Oil, Antioxidant Gel, and Antioxidant Face Firming Serum (not all at once). Each product was lightweight, and with each application, I could feel my skin rejuvenating and feeling more refreshed, plumper, and just overall cleaner and more moisturized. The Antioxidant Face Firming Serum was the last product, she had applied. She also spent time doing some extraction on my skin, and really took the time to get into all those problem zones and remove some clogged pores.

(Image provided by Tracey Paul and Co. and Jenn KL Photography)

When we were done, she let me rest in the room for a few minutes. I left with some great little goodies, that I was so excited to try. The Discovery Kit, which included most of the products mentioned above. An amazing summer tote bag. A great beach bag or weekender, which I used the following weekend for my trip up to Solvang. The bag is a perfect blue turquoise and ivory with a pop of camel colored leather for the straps. You can get the same one here, by Wills Leather. They have some amazing products to choose from. Perfect for summer getaways.

After I left, Akemi made sure I promised not to wear any makeup for the rest of the day. I followed that with no makeup for the next two days! I didn’t need any, my skin was clearing up and super soft by the end of day 2. I only applied light moisturizer and sunscreen. Truly, one of the best facials I’ve ever had--and one of the best facials you can get in Los Angeles. But don’t take my word for it---check out The Organic Pharmacy and make an appointment with Akemi, today. You can thank me later.

Top 5 Best Bridal Beauty Products

With June just around the corner that can mean only one thing...Wedding Season is upon us. This year it’s extra special because I, like so many others before me, join the ranks as I go from bridesmaid...to bride!

I know, I can’t believe it either. It seems like only yesterday I was sitting front row during L.A. Fashion Week wondering which designers to cover, picking out my outfits weeks in advance, prepping for editorial shoots and trying to navigate L.A.’s crazy dating scene. Now I’m 5 1/2 months away from saying “I Do” and we just bought six house plants. My how times have changed--but I digress.

Going from bridesmaid to bride can be a little scary, there’s so much to be done, vendors to coordinate, invitations to send out and parties to attend that you can sometimes forget about taking care of yourself! But, this is hardly the time to forget about you! Or your bridal party for that matter, as any of the products mentioned below can work wonders for your bride-tribe. So without further ado, I give you--the Top 5 Best Bridal Beauty Products according to, well, myself. In no particular order:

1) DDF Glycolic Toning Complex - On your wedding day you want to put your best face forward. Heck, that’s every day, who am I kidding. For that, I turn to Dr. Howard Sobel’s DDF Glycolic Toning Complex. It’s a toner that may help to minimize the appearance of fine lines, reduce the look of pore size (good for photo-ops), and helps to improve the texture of your skin.

It's formulated with AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) which is known to help increase surface cell turnover (make sure to wear sunscreen as this ingredient has been known to increase your risk of developing a sunburn) for that youthful glow every bride-to-be needs! It’s safe to use multiple times a day, or after cleansing as a toner. Think of it as a quadruple threat as it can cleanse, treat, moisturize, and protect. So have at it ladies, I know I’ll be using this product daily (or once a week) as I begin my final approach to that alter.

2) Malin + Goetz Revitalizing Eye Cream - Everyone knows I’m a crier, I’m not ashamed of it--I tend to cry at the drop of a hat. A baby kitten is saved from a fire, those SPCA commercial’s featuring Sarah McLachlan’s music in the background--yup I’m sobbing. Along with the tears comes puffy eyes and no one wants that, especially on their wedding day. But Malin + Goetz takes it one step further, this eye cream is like a genie in a bottle--except it’s not a bottle so much as it’s a blue little pot of gold. When I say little, I mean little. The .05fl.oz will set you back $92.00 but for good reason---it’s intense and a little goes a long way.

De-puff, and reduce the appearance of lines, wrinkles and dark circles with Malin + Goetz revitalizing eye cream. The cream for brides, MOTB, bridesmaids, grandma, you get the idea. The advanced firming peptides, marine algae, grapeseed oil, sunflower oil deliver a lightweight intense moisturized feeling, that will leave you and your eyes I-do ready in no time.

3) The MAKEUP Drop - Everyone’s obsessed with beauty blenders, brushes, and blobs. Okay, the last one I made up, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s in the works. That said, there are more ways than ever to apply your concealer, foundation, BB Cream or whatever current coverup you are toting. Each method has its pluses and its minuses, each one can do wonders for your makeup regimen and look. However, today, I’m here to introduce you brides and brides-to-be to the Makeup Drop.

This silicon little gem is cruelty-free, non-toxic, and paraben-free. Plus, it doesn’t soak up all of your product like some of those other applicators. It’s smooth surface and texture helps to glide foundation or product clear across your skin. Like ice-skating, on a pristine clean sheet of ice, The Makeup Drop will leave your skin flawless, like you’ve been kissed by air. Which is good, because on your wedding day you definitely will be floating-on-air, so why not also be kissed by it? Am I right?!

The best part, there are multiple ways to use your Drop. Freeze it and apply your moisturizer under the eye for a quick de-puff before your close up. 4) Philip B. Rejuvenating Oil Treatment - Your tresses are one of the main attractions on your wedding day, so you want to be sure your hair is in tip-top shape for the big day. One way to do just that is by prepping. You definitely want to start early, and I suggest using Philip B. Rejuvenating Oil Treatment at least once a month leading up to the big day. Try once a month, see how it goes, if you still notice dryness up the amount. The Philip B. team recommends the below guidelines for just starting out.

For parched or damaged hair--use twice a week; on dry hair, once a week; and on normal hair 1-4 times a month. For a dehydrated scalp, use once or twice a week.

Be sure to follow the directions carefully, and always practice good judgment when trying new products. If you have fine to oily hair this may not be the right product for you. However, if you have coarse, thick, and color-treated hair like me--then this is definitely the product for you! Give it a whirl, just make sure you try the product well before your wedding. I don’t want to hear about any day-of I do disasters. I’ve touted the miracle that is Philip B. on WFTR for the last couple of years. Trust me, it’s one of those products you’ve got to try.

5) SMD Cosmetics Snail Secretion Cream -  Now I know what your thinking...what the heck, Dana is losing it. But, fear not friends, this stuff is the ish. Yeah, it’s 62% snail secretion, yeah...it’s snail secretion...but there’s more to it than just snail juice.

2017 Pink Pump Gala Recap

This past Sunday, Special Needs Network founder Areva Martin moderated a panel on “The Changing Face of Beauty” with the 2017 Pink Pump Gala honorees Jamie Brewer; you know her from the FX TV series “AHS” (American Horror Story) and as a fierce beauty advocate and ambassador of change for those living with DS. Maxine Tatlonghari; award-winning founder of VanityGirlHollywood.com and Galina Sobolev; the fabulous fashion designer and creator of “Single Dress” and “Single Plus”, a line reinventing styles for women of all shapes and sizes.

The topic of discussion ranged from how to grow with the evolving and ever-changing face of beauty in an industry that’s constantly positioning women in direct competition with one another; to how to succeed in business and push the conversation of female empowerment. It further propelled the question of how do we as a whole, uplift, and champion one another’s success for the greater good of all?

The panel discussion was an eye-opening experience that allowed influencers, journalists, and beauty insiders a rare look inside the lives and careers of these brave, passionate, and strong women. Jamie Brewer spoke of her time on-stage as the first female with DS to ever walk in New York Fashion Week. What an experience that was for her, “an overwhelming moment,” as she said, because of the magnitude of the achievement and what it meant for all those who’ve had limitations placed on them by others. What it meant to Jamie and to thousands of other young boys and girls, was groundbreaking and industry changing. She was the first, and hopefully not the last. As Areva Martin said, (and I’m paraphrasing here), no good comes from being the first if you aim is to also the last. We must be the first, so others can come after and succeed as well.

Maxine Tatlonghari provided deep insight into the launch of her beauty company, Vanity Girl Hollywood. An inside, frank discussion on what it took to make it work! Proving that sometimes it really does take someone else to believe in you. You need that support, whether it’s a teacher, a friend, a mentor, or someone who see’s potential in you and your dream.

Galina Sobolev, spoke openly about her humble beginnings and the journey and strength she needed to find in order to succeed and launch Single Dress. She too spoke of the support needed to flourish. Going deeper, further explaining her purpose and drive for creating Single Plus and what that means for all women regardless of shape or size.

Later the Pink Pump Gala continued with a fashion show and silent auction. Proceeds from the event and luncheon at The Four Season’s Beverly Hills went directly to funding JPAC the summer camp, which provides a safe and nurturing environment for children with special needs and those who are autistic, who come from underserved communities.  JPAC is a unique and important camp and benefits from the direct charitable donations. Stylish Lightweight Summer Socks

That’s right ladies, this summer you don’t have to don sandals every damn day. You can rock a pair of cute printed lightweight socks paired with a cute pair of booties. Why stop there, rock em’ with your favorite saddle shoe, loafer or some cute boat shoes.

Recently, I was sent a couple of pairs from Ozone. This fun-loving brand produces socks in a variety of colors and a ton of options to choose from. I sampled the  Ozone Sheer Orchid in blue. It’s actually pretty adorable, and I found myself wearing them around the house---paired them with some cute cut-offs or for a secret pop of color, hidden underneath my pant leg! They’re a fun way to insert some color into your outfit.

Another brightly colored option is the Ozone Women’s Mona Linen sock. These were so comfy, I even wore them to sleep! They’re really really soft, which is always a factor for myself when I consider buying a pair of socks. Also, what makes them even more desirable is their price point. So adorable and only $13.00 a pair! I found myself wanting the entire Mona Linen line. They come in several colorways including this beautiful grey and orange option

Consider me sold! I’m an Ozone girl from here on out. These socks are amazing. If you are looking for a lightweight summer sock that’s fashionable, comfortable, easy to wear and cheap---look no further than Ozone. They’ve got your toes covered!

Sunless Tanning Meets ABC’s Dancing With The Stars: Your Summer Tan Never Looked So Good!

Recently we received a new line of sunless tanning products by Norvell Tanning. Their line of products, when applied correctly, yields a summer glow that will leave your skin feeling hydrated, nourished, and definitely sun-kissed.

The brand teamed with ABC’s Dancing with The Stars to create a line of self-tanning products that if good enough for the stars, is good enough for you! In addition, the line is infused with VIO-7™,  a specially formulated blend of anti-orange bronzer pigments. The bronzer counteracts any undesirable undertones like orange, to produce a natural-looking sun-kissed glow.

We first sampled the PERFECTION Self-Tanning Mousse, a super-lightweight, mousse that goes on smooth and is best applied using the Norvell Sunless Blending Mitt. Which we were also provided, for review. It’s a great find and protects your hands from over absorption of the product and over processing of color. It’s highly recommended to wash your hands even after wearing the mitt, as the product can seep through if over saturated. We learned this the hard way.

To achieve a perfect tan you’ll want to apply the mousse in small amounts as the mitt absorbs the mousse rather quickly. We found it best to apply the mousse about a tablespoon-size portion at a time. Apply in circular motions as you work your way from one side of the body to the next. It dried rather quickly a hairdryer can be used to achieve a faster drying time. The product did feel a bit sticky, and due to the DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) gave off an odor. The odor comes from DHA’s chemical reaction with the amino acids contained within the protein, keratin, a major component of the surface of your skin.

After application, drying, setting, and waiting for the full 8-hours before showering, we did notice some slight streaking. We were unable to tell if the streaking was due to the Mitt’s absorption of the product, or if this was due to application failure.  Once showered, the streaking reduced, along with the smell. Overall the self-tanning mousse is a great find because the color that iis exceptionally close to a realistic looking tan. We’ll be applying and reviewing the Endurance Gradual Tanner CC Cream next.

Carve Your Own PATH - Wearable Fitness Technology For Those Seeking A Personal Approach To Their Workout

Losing weight can be a struggle. More often than not, it takes a dedicated approach to fitness. With each individual carving out their own fitness regimen. It can take countless hours on the treadmill, weight lifting, and finding that perfect combination of cardio and strength training. It’s exhausting, and for those individuals juggling a hectic workload, school, and family life...it can be overwhelming. But, what if there was a device that could tell you exactly how many minutes you’d need to run or walk a day to meet your fitness goals? We’re talking right down to the seconds, and it could tailor your fitness routine specifically for your body’s needs? Thankfully, there’s a device that aims to do just that. Now you can carve your own fitness path with PATH.

Currently pending funding to get manufacturing under way, “PATH is a learning fitness wearable that tracks your metabolism and predicts the exact minutes you need to workout to lose weight.” Intrigued by the promise of a fitness routine that would not only meet my personal fitness goals but time restraints as well, I knew I had to get to the bottom of this. I mean, If there was a magical device that was going to tell me how many steps I needed to take so I could eat more GF donuts...then this wasn’t only a quest for myself, this was a quest for readers as well. That said, I went straight to the CEO for answers. Gaurav Shukla is a young entrepreneur looking to shake, I mean shape things up in the wearable fitness industry, and I think he’s just the man to do it.

1) In your own words tell us about PATH - The initial idea, design, and development.

"We started out with a problem. Fitness trackers today recommend 10,000 steps to every body type. Because everybody is not active enough to take 10,000 steps every day, we often try it for a few days and end up dropping off from the fitness program. At Path, we wanted to create a non-intimidating experience for everybody. Hence, we looked at the current technology available to do that. We cannot read everything from the wrist---that's just not how our bodies work. We found out about the VO2 tests and how athletes use it to personalize their fitness regimen. We decided to create a breath device that we could provide everyone to use in the comfort of their home. That's how we created Path."

2) Can you walk us through the technology behind PATH and how it works with a user's body to translate and predict how a person's body fat and sugar is burned?

"The idea behind everything stems from your muscles use of oxygen, and it's release of carbon dioxide as a byproduct. If we could measure the ratio of the oxygen inhaled and the carbon dioxide exhaled, we get something called Respiratory Exchange Ratio or RER. And with this information, we can tell if your body is using fat as an energy source or carbohydrates."

3) What is the initial price point that users/customers can expect if they choose to purchase PATH?

"The first 300 orders go out for $279. The Kickstarter price is $299. We retail at $349."

4) Can you talk about the design a bit more? How did you design, create, and manufacture the prototype?

"We wanted to keep the user experience of the product easy to learn and easy to use. But it had to be elegant. This drove the whole design process. Our designer, Bill Webb, who previously worked with Nike and Google on wearables, looked at different form factors that exist already for the wrist, and different ways we could tie the device to the wrist. We went through various iterations with our factory in Taiwan, re-anodizing and retouching the metallic finish to get it just right."

Quench Your Thirst With Invo Coconut Water

With Fall in full swing, it’s more important than ever to keep your skin hydrated and nourished. Here, on WFTR we tend to talk a lot about what we can apply to our skin, face, and body to keep it hydrated, healthy, and clean. But, we rarely discuss what we can ingest that can add just as much, if not more to our skin.

What we take in, is just as important as what we put on. For that, it’s important to keep a well-balanced diet, stay hydrated, and stick to a fitness routine that’s comfortable for your body, schedule, and fitness goals.

When it comes to staying hydrated, it’s important to drink plenty of water, we all know this. In fact, even writing it makes me cringe. We get it, 8 glasses of water a day. But there are other substances that can provide hydration and nourishment at the same time. For alternative hydration methods, we turn to INVO Coconut Water.

INVO Coconut Water is this delicious, refreshing, electrolyte-filled, dream come true. With 5 essential electrolytes, INVO is packed with nutrients to keep your skin glowing and radiant. The High-Pressure Processing (HPP) uses a cold crafting technique and is never heated, this means all the nutrients are essentially locked into each bottle of INVO Coconut Water.

Having sampled INVO Coconut Water ourselves, we can tell you, it’s downright delicious! Also, it’s the perfect size and amount for a quick hydration lift. There’s nothing worse than opening a bottle of your favorite coconut water only to get half-way through and feel as though you’ve just overloaded your taste buds and sugar intake. INVO is refreshing, crisp, clean, and definitely something you won’t feel guilty about drinking. We can’t comment on the Tropical or Sencha Green Tea flavors, as we haven’t tried those yet. However, the Pure is Pure-iffic!

INVO Coconut Water is available in 3 flavors:  Pure, Tropical and Sencha Green Tea. The water is so reasonably priced at $3.49 it’s far less expensive than some of it’s competitors. And is available at select Whole Foods, Wegmans, National Grocers and other independent fine food locations.

So, how do you hydrate? Tell us by emailing us at info@wordsfromtherunway.com.

Perfection In A Bottle With Cosmedicine's Triple - P

Perfection in a bottle with Cosmedicine's Triple - P Perfected Brightening Serum. First, we are going to talk about the obvious, packaging. Cosmedicine's Triple-P treatment comes beautifully packaged in a gold and pink cylinder with a subtle gold trim. It's an item that you can keep on your nightstand or next to your sink, it's that beautiful.

But what is it exactly? Think of it as daily vitamins for your face. It helps to reverse the harmful effects of environmental damage that can wreak havoc on your skin. Essentially it lessens the appearance of hyperpigmentation, sun spots, fine lines and wrinkles and at the same time helps to brighten and illuminate your natural skin's overall complexion.

Here's what's inside:

  • A MegaDose of Nutritional Complex: A secret blend of anti-aging essentials that provide maximum vital elements that help to support the skin's already natural healing process.
  • Bamboo Extract: Bambo is a natural anti-inflammatory which has been proven to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Chamomile Extract: (Not just to ease you into a good nights rest) Chamomile also provides amazing healing properties that visibly reduce redness, and calm inflamed skin.
  • Comfrey Root Extract: This extract has been proven to stimulate the growth of healthy tissue, by using a special cell-healing agent.
  • Evening Primrose Extract: provides high levels of fatty acids that help to improve skin's elasticity and feel.
  • Linoleic Acid: This emollient and fatty acid is essential to the development and rejuvenation of healthy skin and is high in antioxidant properties.

I've used Cosmedicine for a couple of weeks now, it's lightweight, and doesn't interfere with any other products I currently use. It's everything you'd want in a healing anti-aging treatment. The only caveat I have with the product? It comes in at a slightly higher price point than expected, at just over $200.00. coming in at $210.00. However, if you have the means to, it's well-worth it!

Cosmedicine Triple-P Serum can be found by visiting: www.cosmedicine.com and at fine retailers nationwide.
