A woman whose epilepsy was greatly improved by an experimental brain implant was devastated when, just two years after getting it, she was forced to have it removed due to the company that made it going bankrupt.

Specifically, because she couldn't afford to buy the implant from the company. They basically took her implant back to recoup their losses. This is what happens when you privatize healthcare and health research. The group providing her with this implant should not have been able to go bankrupt in the first place, let alone repossess her implant to pay off their debts.

This is what disabled people mean when we say that cyberpunk horror is just a reality for us. This woman was literally forced to undergo a surgery because she couldn't pay to keep the implant already inside her brain. How long till companies start repossessing pacemakers and transplants?

[Image Description: Digital art with pixel text at the top: "Your email found me, and I killed it". A brown wolf shatters a computer, glowing wires hanging from its jaws. Electricity sparks where it has one paw on the screen, still glowing in blue. The wolf, sparks flying from its mouth, stares directly at the veiwer with a grimace. End ID]

the thing that gets me about about barbie is that barbie land wasn’t even purposefully a matriarchy, barbie land came about because of the way little girls were playing with their barbies, it wasn’t created by mattel it was created by the people using the toys, so the fact that the barbies ignored the ken’s and had girls night every night wasn’t because they had some bias against him, it was just an accurate depiction of how kids play with barbies. I had some ken dolls as a child and they were essential to the plot in the sense that of course my barbie has a boyfriend because that represented the world i saw around me, but also he didn’t have any purpose in my dream world because i was only interested in what the girls were doing because they represented me and how i wanted to be, I wanted girls night every night I wanted the girls to be president and austronauts and not because of some inherent feminist idea but because I was a girl and I wasn’t thinking about boys, ken was an accessory. this movie wasn’t made to change the world but it showed a different perspective than what we usually see which I thought was fun. Men don’t have to be the centre of all our stories and its not even because we hate them, sometimes we’re just not thinking about them

This was a ride ⚰️⚰️

I love posts shared from AITA because the whatever impression I get reading the title alone is almost always the exact opposite of the impression I get after reading the story.

“AITA for throwing a child out a window” will always be someone rescuing a kid from a burning building or something and “AITA for cleaning my girlfriend’s apartment” will be about throwing out her grandma’s ashes because she spends too much time thinking about her grandma instead of the OP or some shit.

i must not stir the pot. stirring the pot is the notifications-killer. participation in the discourse is the little-death that brings total activity obliteration. i will face the bad opinions on the internet. i will permit them to pass over me and through me. and when they have gone past, i will turn the block button onto their source. where the discourse has come from there will be nothing. only i will remain.

the secret to being a cool adult is to wear things that your younger self wanted to wear but couldn’t and to do things that your younger self wanted to do but couldnt

This is the kind of thing I’m talking about when I say that being an adult is better than being a teenager.

Like reality isn’t fun, no, and I don’t like responsibilities, but no one can tell me I can’t dress someway, eat something or do anything. I can do anywhere and do anything situational factors not withstanding.
