peace and ME! are two sides of the same coin… “as long as danger is near, and it’s just around the corner, darling, cause it lives in me, no I could never give you peace” and “trouble’s gonna follow where I go” reflect the same sentiment, that as long as anyone is with her, they will inevitably be drawn into the storm clouds that is her reality of being a figure in the public eye…both songs emphasize the positive aspects she brings to the relationship, that she can cheer him up and be there for him when no one else can - “living in winter I am your summer” vs. “I’m a fire and I’ll keep your brittle heart warm”… but no matter what, “the rain is always gonna come if you’re standing with me” -so at the end of ME! her and her lover dance in the rain and her dress literally turns into a rainbow of color -her dark shadows are just a part of her “rainbow with all of the colors,” making her the unique lover she is to him -but in peace, she’s approaching this same problem, and asking him -is it really enough? if she could never give him peace?  if they always have to brave the storm?

“I was so glad that we kept it [a secret] because I didn’t want to be the one that spilled the beans. I have a eight-year-old daughter, and one day she asked me. She’s just like, ‘Daddy, do you know Taylor Swift?’ It was the morning after we’d written one of these songs. And every time we would write a song, it was like a weird lightning bolt, getting this struck by lightning or something, just exhilarated with electricity. I just looked her straight in the eye and said, ‘No’. I honored my confidentiality.”

— Aaron Dessner on having to keep his work with Taylor a secret (NME, July 26th 2020)

But imagine if you lived in a country where the color of your skin got you killed for driving, jogging, sleeping, yelling, parking, babysitting, sitting in a van, selling CDs, selling cigarettes, opening the door, walking at night, wearing a hoodie at night, holding a toy gun, lying on the ground, being homeless, being in a dark stairwell, holding a cell phone, having a broken taillight, exercising horses, having a bottle of pills, shopping at Walmart, holding a BB gun at Walmart, holding a phone in your own backyard, eating ice cream in your own house, and shopping, you would say, “That is a lawless country.”

WHAT THE FUCK

WHAT KIND OF THREAT DO YOU EVEN MANIFEST THAT SIX YEAR OLD CHILD HAS TO YOU TO EXCUSE THIS???

THIS IS FUCKING DISGUSTING AND PEOPLE ARE FUCKING MONSTERS FOR DOING THIS/IGNORING THIS/EXCUSING THIS

Imagine being such a punkass little bitch that you arrest a kindergartener for throwing little baby hands.

Highly recommend this book for those concerned about the treatment of Black girls in educational institutions.

Try searching for it on Bookshop.org and help support local bookshops instead of buying from Amazon. Even better if you can find a Black owned bookshop online and buy direct from them.

ADDITIONALLY: Contact your local school board and ask if the public school contracts with local police departments for their school resource officers (SROs). Demand that they terminate their contract and redirect resources plan a better way to serve their students. Minneapolis public school board did this last week.

shukri abdi, a black muslim 12 year old girl was pushed into a river by her racist white class bullies and drowned to death. she didn’t know how to swim. no one was charged for her death and she still hasn’t gotten justice despite there being a witness.

sign this petition as well: justice for shukri (make sure you sign BOTH petitions)

please continue spreading this and raise as much awareness as possible! shukri deserves justice. don’t let her go forgotten. do not rest until she gets justice.

You guys are dangerously close to realizing specifically what kinds of people they keep from voting and why.

I want to drill this into everybody’s head:

  • The United States of America has the highest prison population in the world
  • Black Americans and Latin people make up the majority of this population (many of whom are non-violent offenders)
  • Federal Prisons in America require that their state keeps their prisons at a maximum occupancy at all times.
  • The 13th amendment did not entirely abolish slavery…just one form of it. It remains legal through industrial prison system

Oh and we have privatized prisons which allow companies to actually make money off of keeping people incarcerated

Here’s what’s really perverse: prisoners, who cannot vote, still get counted in the U.S. Census. The more prisoners a county has, the more representation it gets, even though the prisoners cannot vote. See how that works? The more black and brown people they lock up, the more government resources and political representation they get. Even though those prisoners have no say and cannot vote.

If county-A has a population of 50 voters but no prisons, and county-B has a population of 50 voters and 50 prisoners, the county with the prisoners gets more government funding and more political represention. This is sometimes called “prison gerrymandering” and it is used in redistrictring.

Not so fun Fact: Southern states that reliably vote for Republicans also have the highest prison population in the United States. (source). So mass incarceration is a double whammy. It’s both a form of voter suppression and a tool to strengthen white people’s political power.

i hope taylor realizes it’s not about crafting the perfect statement but sharing resources and statements from black people and just joining in on the fight she promised to be a part of because racism doesn’t wait for anyone

remember that police brutality won’t end with the ballot box in november. it won’t stop just because a democrat is in office. ferguson happened while obama was president. standing rock happened while obama was president. he deployed the national guard for these. his response was just as severe to these communities as trump’s; he just wasn’t so public about it. police brutality and systemic racism are not political problems but SYSTEMIC problems. this means that the system causes it, not the president, governor, senator, congressman, or city council. if you want this to end, you have to go beyond right or left wing, and dismantle the entire system. if you think this is going to end in november, you’re sorely mistaken; they’ll just get better at hiding it.

white people really out here getting upset over a statue of a pathetic man who lost a civil war being removed claiming that they’re erasing history. lmao, a man who fought a war against the north over their right to keep slaves and later lost, does not deserve a statue. fuck his memory, fuck his statue and fuck the confederacy.
