only as young as the moment is

for the @grishaversebigbang reverse mini bang 2021!

i was lucky to work with the amazing @mayerisart and @discountscoobyart. you can find their piece here!

summary: Alina finds that relieving, and she raises an eyebrow playfully at Inej’s mask. She shrugs, and Alina can see the slightest hint of a blush at the edges of her cheeks. “The Wraith is well known,” Alina teases. “The ship and the woman, both.”

“What do you want to do?” Inej asks her.

Alina Starkov looks at the new world in front of her with bright eyes. The view from the Van Eck mansion is gorgeous—there are gardens below her, a large, clanging church for greed in front of her, and she can make out strange little people in their business suits and afternoon wear just to the left. Amongst them are splatterings of color, men and women in fancy silks, those who look Zemeni and Kaelish and even some Ravkans. She’s seen her fair share of ambassadors in the Little Palace, but she’s never seen such a diverse group of relatively ordinary citizens.

Her life in Ravka had been fantastic—not in its story, but in its sheer depth, in the legend she had carved out for herself in the history books—but it had been very Ravkan. “I want to see the world,” she breathes out, moving from the window to make eye contact with the pirate captain. She’d met Inej—truly met Inej—through Nina a year ago, and they’d grown a steadfast friendship. Inej looked at Alina as though she was a myth, but also as though she was a human, just another girl who hadn’t had much of a childhood.

When Alina mentioned that she’d like to see more of the world, Inej had offered her and Mal passage on her ship without a second thought. And now Mal is sitting down with Jesper and Wylan at the dining table and she’s here, getting settled into her rooms with Inej at her shoulder.

The slim girl winks at her. “I can do that,” she says. “We may just have to get you something for your hair.”

some very important info re: paid accounts~

I am not a lawyer, but I can decently interpret legalese and, being as I also suffer from tl;dr syndrome and assume others may as well, I took one for the team and went through the updated TOS for the post+ accounts and highlighted (what I understand to be) the most pertinent information, which ultimately comes down to this:

You cannot monetize copyrighted works (aka charge and earn money from fanfic, fanworks, etc) and if you do decide to put your fanworks behind a paywall via Tumblr, when you are inevitably sued, Tumblr will not protect you and will not defend you and you alone, personally, will be responsible for whatever monetary damages said lawsuit results in.

If anyone is a lawyer and knows I've gotten any of this wrong, please do not hesitate to correct me/this post.

Screenshots taken from Tumblr's TOS (updated 7-21-21), Stripe's Account Agreement, and the post+ FAQs.

1. Your paid account will not be hosted by tumblr; it is routed through a 3rd party.

2. By signing up for a paid account, you're entering into an agreement with Stripe, so in addition to Tumblr's TOS, you are also bound to Stripe's TOS.

3. Stripe, like Tumblr, will not defend you or protect you against any lawsuits.

4. Furthermore, you may end up owing Stripe money (indemnify = compensate)

5. Tumblr's TOS specifically states that you can't put any content on your post+ account that violates any laws, including laws that protect intellectual property rights of others. This is super important, because Tumblr's post+ FAQ also states that you can post anything that you would regularly post on tumblr, which I'm sure many will take to mean that gifsets, fanworks, etc are fair game, since all of that stuff can be posted on tumblr now. However, the difference is, you're not making money from the fanworks you're posting or reblogging now. Once money enters the equation, the game changes.

Tumblr is making it seem like any and all content goes for post+ accounts, knowing 90% of this site is fanworks. This is not true and you'll be opening yourself up for lawsuits if you charge for fanworks.

6. Tumblr further disclaims any and all liability in any legal issues.

tl;dr: Please do not make a post+ account, bc you will be opening yourself to lawsuits and if that happens, Tumblr's response will be not our problem, you agreed to all the terms which said you couldn't do that, sorry not sorry. Please protect yourself.

Archive.org is facing a lawsuit

tldr: the Internet Archive/WayBack Machine is super important in term of archived content, billions of stuff are on there, and with the current event happening in the world like stated above, without this tool, it will be hard to properly document what took place. It will be easy for certain people to rewrite history. Dont let them.

DONATE HERE (post dont get much exposure with working links sorry)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

IF YOU CANT DONATE THEN PLEASE SPREAD THE INFO

On twitter, tumblr, facebook, heck, anywhere you want, this needs to be talked about !

they’re being sued due to putting together an “emergency library”, essentially, in the wake of schools and libraries closing due to covid-19.

you can read about it in a few places. here’s one article on the subject, but there’s plenty to be found.

Hey I just went to look to see if there was any new developments since this was posted (June 2020), And the actual trial as far as I know the trial will begin around November 2021. So this is still relevant.  Archive.org Blog |  Publisher’s Weekly

Kaz

The fog was rolling off the harbour in thick waves, rising through the cool air around them. Kaz kept his eyes steady on the roof tiles ahead, determined not to let his missteps be the thing that derailed their reconnaissance mission. Inej was a world ahead of him, nimble and surefooted as always, leaving him to carefully pick out his own path. She had once tried to hang back, to help him navigate the rough rooftops of Ketterdam they’d been covering. Inej knew better now. He wasn’t helpless, and he needed her to know that as well as the rest of the Dregs.
