Tears of Themis: 2022 CNY SSRs!

Making a brief appearance to gush about these SSRs before I slip away from  Tumblr again, haha.

Xia Yan:

 “I had a dream. In the dream, we looked like this, sitting across each other, face to face. You had a red bridal veil placed over your head...” 

Zuo Ran:

“So long as you do not leave the Xie Zhi* manor... No one will ever know the truth.”

*Xie Zhi: a mythical beast that looks a little like a Qilin (more on Qilin here). It is commonly taken to be the symbol of justice.  

Mo Yi:

“To me, your existence is the only speck of starlight in an eternal night. For that fleeting glimmer, I will willingly suffer ten million years of darkness.”
“As long as it is your wish, I will see that it is fulfilled. So don’t be scared, alright?”

Lu Jinghe:

“Stay with me. After today, you will forget everything about the mortal realm. Until I’m the only person left in your world.”
“What if I were to say that I fancy you, and I want to be with you for eternity?”

If I may ask, why did you quit L&N?

Hello! You certainly can.

Simply put, I quit L&N because I didn't like the writing. It's a little over-the-top for me, and there's also poor grammar in some places that they didn't fix after the betas. Other lines look like machine translations from another language.

Happily, I took some screenshots of choice lines when I was playing, so I have examples to show now.

Example #1: Strange word choice

Translation: She looked at me with her head held high, her smile unimpeachable.

The problem: The idiom “无懈可击” is usually used to describe plans or strategies in Chinese. Plans can be airtight, but not a smile. It also seems like the writer is trying too hard here—loading two idioms in one sentence and it isn't even done well.

How I would have written it: 她扫了我一眼，不屑地笑了笑。

Example #2: Over-the-top writing

Translation:

Qi Sili: Cough cough cough—
He raised his head suddenly and looked at me, shell-shocked. His eyebrows were knit together. Surprisingly, his gaze was somewhat embarrassed and panicked.
Me: Director Qi, are you okay?
Panicking, but not daring to clap his back, I pulled out quite a few pieces of tissue paper and handed them to him.
With a clang, the chopsticks were thrown onto the table. He leapt past me and left the office.
Me: What's going on...
Looking at the box of kungpao chicken rice that he had taken only a bite of, I didn't know what to do.

The problem: Technically, there's nothing wrong here, but some descriptions don't make sense under close scrutiny. Why should Qi Sili be shell-shocked or embarrassed? Annoyed, yes, or even surprised, but not embarrassed or panicky. What is there to be embarrassed about? Also, I cannot see the cool-as-you-please Qi Sili behaving like this after taking just one mouthful of chilli. Unless this is meant to be satire, but I don't think so...

How I would have written this:

齐司礼：咳咳咳——
他忍不住蹙紧了眉头，然后抬头看了我一眼，泛红的眼睛里带着一丝无奈。
「女主」：齐总监，你怎么了？
我顿时慌了，又不敢拍他的背，连忙抽了好几张纸巾给他。
“啪”的一声，他猛然放下筷子，并站起身来，大步流星地离开了办公室。
「女主」：这是怎么了……
我看着那盒只动了一口的宫保鸡丁饭，心里不免有些忐忑不安。

I can't comment on the characterisation of the LIs, given that I only lasted around four/five(? I can't remember) chapters or so. I love the VAs, but the writing just isn't my cup of tea.

I just wanted to ask a question regarding my karmas:

I have a bday karma that I have ascended to the fullest, which I know was a bad move cause they’re only srs in terms of strength (the art was too pretty I couldn’t resist!)

I have sps but I don’t have sufficient ascension materials to ascend them (I have enough refined shards to evolve them though)

I’m pretty sure you can tell where this question is going- should I reset the ascension for the bday card and invest them into the sp? Is it worth it?

Hey! Sorry for answering your question so late, but hopefully this is still helpful in some way.

Nope—I wouldn't reset the Ascension for the birthday karma if I were you. The only thing that'd be remotely helpful if you were to do so would be the books (given that this is an SR we're talking about), and you can get enough of those with time.

In retrospect, I think it's actually a lucky thing that you didn't Ascend your SSRs, because red starbursts are much rarer to come by. As you get more SPs along the way, Ascended SSRs won't be of much use in the grand scheme of things, so it might be better if you were to save your red starbursts for your (future) SPs.

Hello! Bold of you to assume that I play L&N.

As a matter of fact, I can answer your question because I did play it briefly before quitting.

It has a gacha system, similar to that of MLQC/ToT. I couldn't go into the specifics if I wanted to though, since I didn't play it long enough (I lasted 2 weeks) to know the details.

Hi anon! I’m dashing out a reply to your questions here so I hope this makes sense to you:

  1. The Memory Bay format is unique, at least for now. After the uproar that took place among CN server last year, they've decided to stick with the traditional memory maze style event for the rest of the chapter ERs.
  2. I wouldn't say that the Memory Bay ERs are a must get unless you really like them. I haven't released that ER guide because after a while the ER/SER system is a little meh, especially with more SPs released. Stats-wise, I personally don't think ERs are all that worth it. I usually only get them in top-up events for that reason.
  3. They did refresh the double gem top-ups in the CN server when the Memory Bay event was released—they usually do with most major top-up events. As for the other bundles, I really can't remember since it was more than a year ago since I last participated. Also, I'm not sure if they'll have exactly the same bundles in the EN server, so it's probably worth checking the store.
  4. Top-up karmas—yes, they did in the CN server. It was the first 588 RMB top-up event they had (link to karmas here). They should have these for the EN server as well, but it would be better if you were to look at the official FB page for more information, since I don't play the EN server myself.

Hello! I have a question about the free MLQC ERs (like S2 Chapter 1 or S2 Chapter 2). If we redeem the ER for one particular LI in S2 Chapter 1, are we able to redeem for a different LI in S2 Chapter 2 ER? (Can those 2 ERs be of different LIs?) I was just a little confused about that when those events occur in the ENG server.

Hello! The pleasure is mine :)

I haven't been answering asks in forever, but I'm back for a while haha.

I'm not sure what you mean by free ERs for S2 Chapters 1/2? The free ERs can only be obtained through the Company feature (and the pet-rearing feature, but that isn’t released in the EN server yet), and the Company feature isn't really linked to the chapters.

You aren't limited to a single LI's ER in the Company feature, you can get all of them given enough time.

Mine:

  1. Masamune, but yeah, we all know that by now, haha.
  2. I like how caring he is once you actually get to know him, as in, hm. He definitely doesn't seem at first glance to be the type of person who cooks for others, nor one who'd overwork himself for the sake of other people. He is angered by explotation of others. I also think he can be rather sensitive, but he got very good at hiding that part of himself.
  3. Hmmm... This is a tough one, haha. I think that, hm. I would point towards his initial outlook on death and how he is ready to die at any moment. But, hm. I dislike it being the case, not him as a character for being that way. The circumstances which led to him believing it was appropriate.
  4. Top 3! Masamune (IkeSen), Mitsuhide (IkeSen), Arthur (IkeVamp)!
  5. Aaaaa, Eternal Love Ending with Masamune or Mitsuhide's route, or... I kinda liked Lancelot's route a lot, and if the game didn't start crashing, I would probably play plenty more IkeRev, simply because of the impression it left on me.
  6. Ieyasu, because he is so sweet at the end, but the beginning was tough on me. Hmm... Other than that, perhaps Napoleon? He just didn't steal my heart in the long run, but nothing wrong with him.
  7. ...Ieyasu, probably. He would be fun to tease. But also Mitsunari. Can you imagine such a friends group? I'd love it, haha. Oh, let's throw Vincent into the mix!
  8. Jean. And Kenshin. And Lancelot. Give them some happiness, they break my heart a little. // I don't care about the fact that they're capable of physically protecting themselves, have you seen how sad they are??
