I know I sound like your mom but you kids need to stop fucking vaping

1) Vaping is confirmed to cause cancer. Vaping coats the lungs with toxic substances, such as heavy metals and benzene, which are known to cause cancer

2) Many vapes contain diacetyl, which, when inhaled causes popcorn lung, or scarring of the lung

3) Ultrafine particles, when being inhaled, can be lodged in the trachea (not good!)

4) Ultrafine particles can also constrict the arteries in the lungs potentially causing A HEART ATTACK

5) Vaping is relatively new. Not much studies have been done in comparison to tobacco. Plus, the vaping companies are powerful people. There is a large chance that they are purposely downplaying and even burying any evidence that vaping is harmful - just like the tobacco companies before them. They do not care about you, or your health, or the truth. They only care for money

Also STOP VAPING INDOORS AROUND OTHER PEOPLE. Holy shit, if you're gonna wreck your lungs at least give me the option not to wreck mine.

It’s such an issue that the MTA had to run a campaign about it

yeah okay ill reblog that

Literally smoking and vaping isn't fun or cute.

You have an addiction and are ruining your health.

Love,

A person who has lost people to smoking and vaping.

Avatar Fandom!

Tell me your thoughts surrounding Katara and her parentification, how the fandom treats her as a character much older than she actually is.

ok I put some thoughts in the replies but the word restrictions are annoying me. I think the fandom disconnect re: Katara comes from a fundamental misunderstanding of what parentification is.

Parentified children are still children; just because Katara is parentified does not mean she’s actually good at being a parent to her friends, or that she’s especially responsible, or that she doesn’t want to be a kid and goof off sometimes. People who assume that parentification = behaving like an adult simply have no experience with parentification. (And similarly, people who think Katara is not parentified just because she’s goofy and irresponsible must not be familiar with the dynamic).

Parentified children are maladjusted children. Parentified children tend to overwork themselves, feel responsible for other people’s feelings and behaviours, and see themselves as the ones who have to be responsible. The whole point of parentification, however, is that these perceptions are not rooted in reality! And that acting according to these perceptions is unhealthy for all parties! Sokka’s parentified too, in a similarly tragic way (he was ready to die for his village because he took on that role as a protector when his dad left), but Sokka was not parentified as a mother. He wasn’t expected to take on responsibilities related to domestic labour and emotional support the way Katara was. Another negative consequence of parentification is this impulse to micromanage how other people behave (e.g. “stop rubbing your eyes and stand up straight!”). It’s the reason Katara clashes so much with Toph and the narrative lampshades it pretty hard. This is true of Sokka too, btw — his protectiveness of Suki was very annoying for her! But we (the audience AND the people in ATLA) do not look down on fathers the way we look down on mothers, so Katara comes across as a lot more annoying than Sokka does, and imo that’s a huge reason so much of the fandom dislikes her.

I think both the ATLA narrative and the fandom tend to engage with her parentification uncritically: they acknowledge the traits that arise from it, but they don’t actually recognize the tragedy of it. (And I’ve seen the argument that the fandom parentifies her, which is yet another fundamental misunderstanding of the dynamics of parentification, seeing as it is literally impossible for a real person to parentify a fictional character).

i could go on and on about aang and toph’s relationship for DAYSSS. the fact that he saw her in a vision before they even met is SOULMATE BEHAVIOR. and their dynamic is BEAUTIFUL !! theyre so opposite, especially in ideology, yet theyre so in sync! especially in battle, the way their bending compliments each other’s despite being opposing elements is insane! and their conflicting ideologies challenge the other in ways that encourage personal growth. this is especially beneficial to aang because by pushing him outside of his comfort zone, toph allows him to adopt new approaches and perspectives towards his bending and worldview which is crucial for the avatar to learn

This Right Here is What Kills Me

1# it's a romance trope. Quite literally.

Here, have another example, on the house.

2# It's also established that Zuko and Katara respond like this when the accusation is founded

With Jet...

And with Jin...

Then with each other. I'm sorry. What the actual fuck.

3# Katara canonically responds calmly when an accusation is not founded

I think we all have a similar question for the writers of A:TLA:
