when my roommate told me he had made himself a nice gay tiefling in BG3 I wanted to ask the body type he chose and to do so I asked "twinkling or beefling?" and I think I've irrevocably fucked up the daily vocabulary of said roommate, that character has no name now, he's just "the twinkling"
the biggest problem with writing fantasy in english is that there's really no alternate universe phrasing that carries the exact tone and context to the reader as "jesus fucking christ"
character who is doomed by the narrative but essentially responds to it by going "nuh uh"

I actually LOVE how BG3 sets up some hornybait characters, only to then do a 180 on their hornyness.
Astarion? Mr sexy vampire, heartthrob of every EA player, the fucking only fangs joke? He actually doesn't even like sex. He's only flirting with you as a coping mechanism. He's perfectly happy living in an asexual relationship for now.
Raphael? The sexy powerful devil who taunts you and tries to seduce you all game long? He's such a narcissist that he only ever fucks a clone of himself gets fucked by a clone of himself. And also he's so bad at sex that he only lasts 2 minutes.
Fucking amazing. I want more of this please.

once again. 2005. on a family show. to put that in perspective, america had only decriminalised being gay two years prior, and a lot of anti-gay laws were still in effect in the uk (weren’t all repealed until 2013)
and i really love the comment john barrowman made about this scene, which is that he made sure to kiss the doctor and rose in the exact same way, with the exact same emotion behind it. because it’s easy to get away with a bi/pan character if they’re the super flirty archetype (which he is), people will just read the same gender attraction as a “oh he’ll kiss anything” joke
but not if you do it like this. if you can’t turn one into a joke, if jack puts equal weight into both of these kisses, you’re forced to take him seriously as a queer character. and you can’t argue that it’s inappropriate for a tv show aimed at kids, because the jack/rose kiss is perfectly appropriate, and no one can deny that. doctor who’s done plenty of kisses like that before. which means the only critique someone can have with the identical jack/doctor kiss is its between two men, and people are less willing to admit their homophobia out loud like that

Hey all, been an intense few days, and realised I haven't actually posted here about the fact the crowdfunder for The Magnus Archives RPG by the incredible Monte Cook Games is live RIGHT NOW.
It's going amazingly well, far beyond what we could have predicted, and I'm so excited by it. It looks amazing and I'm so psyched to see how Monte and the team bring the Archives to the tabletop. As someone who's been roleplaying since the 90s, Monte's work has obviously been a big feature in my gaming life, so you'll have to forgive me if there's a slight fanboyish tinge to how I talk about the project!
