Getting over Sokka was harder than you expected. Ever since you had found out that he loved you, to which you responded by walking out on him, he had run through your thoughts constantly. Even more than he had previously. 

Leaving the group, (who had residence, and a purpose to be there, despite being constantly watched by the Dai Li) was one of your biggest mistakes. Now you were homeless, an unidentifiable loiterer, and constantly being watched by the Dai Li. You could practically hear the spirits laughing at you.

- A/N: this is my submission for @fromthewatertribe​‘s 1k event! Congrats (and also thank you so so much for extending the deadline!) I’m not too pleased with how this turned out, and it’s shorter than I’d like, but this is probably as good as it will get. on reflection, i should probably start writing for other characters

prompt 3: “i’m not saying you’re an asshole except that’s exactly what i’m saying”

It was quiet in Ba Sing Se. Except for the intense shouting match coming from the upper ring. 

“No, I am sick and tired of you constantly hounding me for trying to help you! In case you hadn’t noticed, the eclipse is almost here, and quite frankly, Aang needs all the help he can get!” you turned your head to Aang, “not that I’m trying to make you feel like you’re useless and can do nothing remotely helpful, of course.”

“Spirits, Y/N! You could get hurt! Or killed! I’m not going to risk your life looking for Appa, when we don’t even know that he’s there, or what the hell goes on there!”

“Since when do you have to go anywhere urgently,” you teased, leaning against the doorway to Sokka’s room. The silence in the room as he stared at you, eyes water, was painful. “Oh. Uh, well I’ll um, I’ll go downstairs.”

“Stay… please,” he whispered, his voice shaking. He turned to face you.

“Sokka?” Suddenly, he pulled you into a tight hug, his tears landing on your shoulder. 

“Y/N,” he breathed, “I, I just…”

“You don’t need to tell me if you don’t want to, just know that I’m always going to be here for you.”

“Thank you.”

Words couldn’t fully explain how excited you were. After a painfully long absence, and with extremely limited contact, Sokka was coming home. He had made plans to go home for Christmas anyway, but two weeks prior to his departure, there was a “family emergency”. While he hadn’t specifically told you what it was, you knew it was fairly serious due to the speed at which he “packed”. It was a miracle he had the necessities to last the whole three weeks.
