Finally Found These Guys
And people say Shaggy isn’t a good investigator…
Y’all... I think I just found the best writing advice ever for how to get yourself writing instead of just staring at the little cursor on the screen.
So what you’re gonna do is find a piece of writing you love (published fiction, fanfic, your old work, it all works) and you’re going to find that section you love. That part that makes you feel electricity in your spine. You’re gonna read 4-ish pages of it (maybe less or more—find what works for you!) until you’ve got the flow but you’re not sooo invested that you can’t stop.
And then you’re gonna turn to your work. And the words are just... there? I don’t know how to describe it. But it’s working for me so far. I’d recommend giving it a try, at the very least.
Hello, people of Tumblr. I have a favor to ask of you. Currently, I'm in a bit of a pinch, money-wise. And since I've seen y'all support so many in similar situations, I was wondering if you could help me out too.
And since I don't want to just take your money with giving nothing in return, I'd like to do something with the very little artistic skills I've gained over the years. Now, I'm not that good of an artist but I'm pretty good at calligraphy. So, you can also request commissions if you'd like.
If I get enough positive feedback on this post, I'll make a ko-fi account and tell you more about the commissions in the next post.
From my main account. Help please?

Person A is a witch living a secluded life in the dark forest until they come home one day to find person B, a human, in front of their lit fireplace. B is surprised as they thought this home was abandoned and just needed to get out of the cold and they apologize profusely but person A seemingly doesn’t care.
“Forgive me Father for I have sinned” and “I’m sorry daddy; I’ve been very naughty” are simultaneously saying very similar and very different things.
Pro tip for writers: This is what people mean when they say “sure they’re synonyms but it still dramatically changes the entire meaning of a sentence.”
Also why translation is a fucking art, and time-context and language shift is super important.
For instance: the further back you go, the less “naughty” means “like a misbehaving child” and the more it means “super fucking evil.” That word has shifted connotational meaning SO. FAR. over the past couple hundred years that it makes reading older stuff even in English sometimes like a fucking trip, because someone will call something “naughty” and what you hear is either childish or playfully sexual but what the writer meant was EVIL EVIL EVIL.
Words are weird, and built on consensus.
Alright. Time for a heavy topic.
First off, for these disorders, your character needs to have gone through a traumatic event (or multiple ones).
Note - there are two different sets of criteria for PTSD. One is for adults and children older than six; the other is for children 6 years and under.
These are the adult criteria:
A trauma is defined as being exposed to actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violence, in one or more of the following ways:
So your character has, in some way, been through something pretty hellish. What comes next? As I discussed in one of my earliest posts, not everyone going through a traumatic event gets PTSD. There are a lot of factors involved.
But your character is one of the unlucky ones.
There are few clusters of symptoms the character needs to have experienced some of to get a diagnosis of PTSD.
Intrusion (1 or more of the following):
Avoidance (1 or both of the following):
Negative Cognition / Mood (2 or more of the following):
Arousal and Reactivity (Not that kind of arousal. Seen through 2 or more):
All of these symptoms have to have been experienced by the character for more than 1 month.
These symptoms cause the character stress and seriously makes their life more difficult.
Alright, now PTSD for children 6 or younger is slightly different.
A trauma in this case is defined as being exposed to actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violence, in one or more of the following ways:
Again, there are clusters of symptoms required.
Intrusion (1 or more of the following):
One or more of Avoidance OR Negative Cognition / Mood
Arousal and Reactivity (Not that kind of arousal. Seen through 2 or more):
All of these symptoms have to have been experienced by the character for more than 1 month.
These symptoms cause the character stress and seriously makes their relationships with others strained.
There are a couple specifiers for both types. First, the character may have dissociative symptoms - specifically depersonalization and/or derealization (see my post here!)
You also need to specify if the PTSD had a delayed expression - meaning that all the criteria were not met until at least 6 months after the trauma.
Every day they come into my cell and take something. At first it was just the furniture, the bed and the desk, that sort of thing. They don’t tell me why, or what they want. They’ve never even looked me in the eyes. All they did is take, finally emptying the room to the blank white space it started as. I figured that was it, that I had reached the conclusion of their inane experiment. Then, last night, they came in and took one of my fingers.
I’m doing a personal challenge to make myself write more regularly, so I’m writing at least 1 K words per week, but I’ll try to write more when I have time. I track my progress with these posts.

Word count last week: 37 984 Word count now: 39 114
I was supposed to write yesterday too, but I got sick again, so I wasn’t able to finish the chapter. But at least I reached my goal, so there’s that. I’m so close at reaching the halfway mark of Valeri’s story line, hopefully I can do that next week or the week after that.

But here’s a happy excerpt for once!
“Hi, Fael.”
Fael raised his head and his ears darted forward. After seeing Valeri he jumped up and rushed to the fence, tail wagging. He squeezed his snout through the fence and Valeri offered his hand to be licked. After the master of horses got the door open, Fael lunged out of the cage to great Valeri and threw himself on his back while panting. He seemed unharmed. Thank the light.
“You must have been lonely without Serena”, Valeri mumbled as he scratched Fael’s stomach. “I’m sorry it took me so long.” Fael got up tail still wagging wildly and licked Valeri’s face while he laughed.
how do I find a fic that’s exactly like the one I’ve just read but also different
^^^reasons why writers shouldn’t be worried about using the same tropes/concept/plot that’s been done before
Mind blown
me: *reads 55 fanfics with the same pairing and the same au* also me: another one? pls??
This oh my god
For whatever reason you’re in the closet, you deserve to enjoy pride!
YOOO
This should be in a museum somewhere
You know how we always say "just one more episode" while watching Netflix and end up watching all 19 seasons?
Or "this chapter ended on a cliffhanger! I NEED to know what happens!!" when we read a book and end up sacrificing our sleep?
Yeah, apply that shit to your writing
Say "okay, I'll write just one more paragraph and then I'll binge on fanfics on Tumblr. I swear!"
oh my god i just want to follow more writers. no one is interacting with my intro post, so could you please just like/reblog this if youre a writing blog? my dash is dead and none of the blogs tumblr is recommending me are active and i just want to follow people!
I am fairly active and always down to talk writing!
