In 1968, students also protested at Columbia University in New York City after students discovered links between the university and support for the United States' involvement in the Vietnam War. (Also included: protesting an allegedly segregated gymnasium to be built in Morningside Park. David Shapiro was one of the students, immortalized here, below, occupying the president’s office.

Shapiro died May 5 at 77. He will no doubt be feted as a poet, artist, and literary critic by his Alma mater, the same Columbia U presently condemning students and having them arrested.

Additions: if your viral load is suppressed by medication to the point it’s undetectable, it’s considered untransmittable, even without condoms. Children with HIV+ carriers are usually given medication when they’re born, to make sure any of the virus doesn’t take hold (which we also do to adults who fear they’ve been exposed, it’s called PEP ((Post Exposure Prophylaxis)), which is a month of medication and must be started within 72 hours of exposure).

(There’s also PreP - Pre Exposure Prophylaxis, which is taking medication if you feel you are at risk of being exposed to HIV, whether through sexual partners or sharing injection needles)

This is why we need universal free healthcare - so people can go on and have happy, healthy lives despite the HIV diagnosis. Nobody should die or live in fear when the treatment is so damn simple and effective.

HIV is not as deadly as it once was in the 1980s-1990s. 

There’s been a lot of progress in this. So long as you’re taking your medications (anti-retrovirals), it’s essentially become another chronic disease like diabetes or COPD etc. HIV patients nowadays are living into their 60s and 70s and are more likely to die of cardiovascular disease rather than opportunistic infections or AIDS defining illnesses. 

If the HIV viral load is undetectable, then your CD4 counts (your white cells that are affected by the virus) should normalise. Such that you’re no different to the general population when it comes to infection risk.

Yes, we should all still be precautious, but it’s no longer a death sentence. 

Stigma remains because of how it is transmitted.

We need to share this information as widely as possible.

Captions shouldn't be censored. If the video says fuck or cum or cunt the captions should say the fucking word.

Unless it's a slur! No one needs to see that.

If they say a slur in the video, the captions should reflect it. The disabled are not little babies who have to have life sanitized for them.

Here's how it works when subtitles are done properly:

Removing swears and slurs from the subtitles without removing it from the audio is implying that deaf/HoH people need babying, unlike their hearing friends and family sitting right next to them. Which is frustrating.

The point of subtitles is to give the same experience to everyone watching, regardless of ability—not to be a more palatable version of what's being said.

The purpose of subtitles/captions is to be accurate, that's all.

Rewatched The Batman recently

Bruce Wayne meets Clark Kent at the end of a gala, when Clark lands after having to make an emergency rescue.

Cue Bruce running up to Clark(Superman[his best friend]), staring him down, and then stating very clearing that 'this makes so much more sense. what a relief. You probably know who i am then.'

and ah, yeah, reporter clark kent is slightly familiar with bruce wayne, by reputation at least.

And now he suddenly has bruce popping up in his life, along with his child, seemingly certain that they're best friends??? and there's no sign of the brucie he's familiar with from the tabloids, instead there's this very intense serious man who keeps bringing him random inventions to help, including surgical equipment laced with kryptonite in case he needs stitches? How is he going to explain this to batman.

Meanwhile Batman is the most at ease he's been in forever, of course superman is just like that if he was raised by the kent's. and of course superman would've already known his identity even if he's too polite to bring it up.
