What I said: “These living conditions are positively Dickensian.”
What I should have said: “This shit is fucked up.”

What I said: “Wow, that firefight was like a bad Beckett play.”

What I said: “Kafka would be impressed with the existential confusion contained in that mission plan.”
What I should have said: “Was that a fucked up plan or what?”

What I said: “I think we’ve all grown tiresome of this war and the quagmire in which we find ourselves.”

"I know, like, objectively, on a fucking graphing calculator, it sounds like a huge embarrassing crush. But, ugh. I don't know! He was my sworn enemy until a couple months ago, and then we were friends, I guess, and now he's kissed me, and I don't know what we…are."

"Uh-huh," Nora says.

His laptop is still next door, his phone is still somewhere on the floor, Senator Luna’s name is still being dragged through the mud, and this is just the start. It’s only going to get worse the close they get to the election and the further Luna pulls ahead of Richards in the polls.

Alex knew all that last night when Henry kissed him but all he could think about was Henry’s lips and body moving against his own. His hands on Henry’s waist and the soft sound of his laugh when Alex hooked his leg around Henry’s hip and flipped them over.

He wants to bottle the sound and carry it with him from city to city. He wants to quit his job and follow Henry back to London because Henry will be going back to London, because this isn’t serious.

Henry's band just had their breakthrough year and they're heading to Coachella for the first time, as headliners.

Alex has supported this band since the beginning, when they were still making doing covers and filming their busking performances.

Henry's music found Alex at his lowest point, when his dad left him without a word. Henry's songs and lyrics helped Alex get through the tough times, finding solace in the way Henry references Arthur.

Alex has never thought to make himself noticed, but Henry has always looked in the crowd for a certain fan that shows up at every show.
