PUBLIC PSA ANNOUNCMENT
I am neither English nor a horn, true. I have seen many confusions about this, and I blame the Americans. So here is the story behind my name: Once upon a time, in a land far, far away from now, the "English horn" looked like this: \ / But then the kink moved up to the instrument we ALL know and love. Originally it was called cor angleè, (my spelling might be a little off), which is French for 'angled horn', because of the kink in the middle (which is now at the top). And it WAS a kind of hunting HORN. But because of miscommunication, people start calling it 'cor anglais', which we still use in Britain and France, which the rest of Europe have translated into their own languages. (Eg. in German it's Englischehorn, or something) Anyway, because Americans can only speak English because of reasons, you translated it into "English Horn". And the princess married the prince and they all lived happily ever after. The End. Boom.

move your finger back and forth so it looks like the cat is following it
This is more entertaining than it should be.
This is why I love Tumblr.
two hours later i click reblog
five hours later i click reblog
It’s more fun if you move a quarter of a second before the cat does so it looks like it has a shitty reaction time
@oboeshedidnt ITS WOOBIE AGAIN
@official-oboes @official-englishhorn @official-oboedamore @official-bass-oboe how are them top f-sharps?
But… English horn isn’t supposed to reach those top F#’s????
I could play a top f when I played English horn that one time
It’s doable but ill-advised
Yes, I know it’s possible, but it’s NOT SUPPOSED to.
But it CAN
IT CAN’T REACH F#!!! I PLAY THE DAMN INSTRUMENT!!! I HAVE TRIED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS!! I CAN REACH HIGH A ON OBOE, BUT I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME REACH F# ON AN ENGLISH HORN!!! TRUST ME!!! I HAVE EVEN TRIED SLURRING UP FROM F! IT! DOES! NOT! WORK!!!!!
I’ve done it tho
just because you can play the note, doesn’t mean you should case in point: flute 4th octave
But high notes on English horn aren’t even that high
Think like you’re playing on an alto flute
A high G sounds as a D, but on English horn top G sounds as a C so it’s still lower and it still sounds kind of ok
Still, the very very highest notes of alto flute are just as unsteady as the very very highest notes of C flute But then again the very very highest notes of all flutes are a bad idea in general
IM SORRY WHERE YOU DISCUSSING ME??? DONT YOU DARE GIVE ME TOP F# EVER OR ELSE I WIL DESTROYYYYY YOUUUUUU
I WILL GIVE YOU A TOP F# IF I WANT TO GOD DAMMIT
FINE BUT I WONT PLAY IT
I HAVE PRINCIPLES
I WILL MAKE IT A SOLO JUST TO MAKE YOU PLAY IT
I STILL WONT PLAY ITTTTT

YASSSS
Well I could save money for an English horn… oooor I could buy the complete Solti recordings of the operas or Richard Strauss.
What to do… What to do…
Go with choice number 3: buy a piano
A saxophone is kinda like a English horn
option 5: get all the low flutes. all of them.
A Mellophone and English horn are both in F, so why not March with me instead? :)
I am a clarinet noob and an oboe geek
I’m getting an English horn
YASSSS
I WINNN
