omg re: that poll of fanfic tropes with a twist (specifically flower shop au but with allergies)... ed having a huge crush on flower shop owner stede but he has terrible hay fever. keeps coming into the shop to flirt but is sneezing constantly. regularly buys flowers to have a reason to be there but has to throw all of them out bc he's going through packs of tissues like you wouldn't believe. comes in one time after stede's gotten a huge new batch of lilies and his eyes swell up so bad he can barely see out of them. he has to conceal it with sunglasses and stede's like wow he's so cool...

I've decided Stede's matching stab wound from their reunion happens to be heart shaped, and Ed finds this pretty funny. He even added the little stick n poke arrow, just so Stede remembers whose heart he has in his hands.

figured out why there's been an uptick in me getting blocked by seemingly cool people recently. apparently my description looks like this on ios:

I noticed today that the deadname of a client was clearly visible in their client file because it was their legal name, and flagged it for IT. I specifically flagged it as "Hey, if someone sees this and calls our client the wrong name, we'll lose them as a client." IT emailed me back immediately, and it's now invisible except on their contract with us, which the majority of us don't have direct access to, as opposed to their client file.

The reason I flagged it framing it as a loss is that what matters to most companies is money. If you can flag a bigoted practice as something that will lose customers, clients, or get them a lawsuit, that is significantly more likely to get taken care of quickly than trying to appeal to their better nature. I could have flagged it as "Hey, this is going to make our client really upset if they hear it.", which was my actual motivation for flagging it, but if I had, then it probably would have been taken care of in a few days or even weeks, not hours.

Always hit them with the profit argument for quick and decisive action.

Whatever you do, don't think about the way Stede's face hardens when Pete calls Oluwande 'babyface'.

the city where we live doesn't allow public barbecues so my brother fucking welded a grill to a handcart and now hosts "chill and grill sessions" where he sends all his friends his live location so they can hunt him down on their bikes with sausages in their backpacks while he carts it around evading the police like some sort of barbecue vigilante, grilling on the run. i have never been prouder of him

TikTok user unravel.me.now has just launch an app (lore.fm) she is calling “Audible for AO3”. It’s an app that uses AI voices to read out fics.

🚨She is requiring any authors who do not want their fics to be on this app to OPT OUT by emailing team@lore.fm 🚨 🚨She has not given an actual template or how you’re supposed to prove you’re the author or said how her team will process this or how she will keep these requests secure🚨

I do not have this app. I haven’t seen anyone use it yet. According to Reddit users, unravel.me.now’s earlier TikToks stated she envisions the app being able to create libraries stored on that app and to have version of “Spotify wrapped”. That implies that eventually data collection must happen, if it’s not happening currently.

I don’t know the actual capabilities of this app. I don’t know the legalities. I do know that it personally feels like this app is trying to turn AO3 into a content generation source and I haven’t heard of the app allowing you to leave a comment or kudos or interact with the original work.

I’m just sad about this.

Yeah it's great to think about kink critically, to be aware of power dynamics and the social production of taboos and how those create erotic scripts, to be able to unpack those without turning into a reactionary who thinks all kinks except the ones you like personally are bad, but if all of that is too much work you can simply fall back on the old faithful of "actually none of my business"

raise a glass to the posts you love that end up deleted. to the fanart and fanfics you lose track of and can’t locate. to the blogs you used to look through that ended up unexpectedly disappearing. to the things you didn’t archive because you always assumed they’d be there.

This is why reblogs are important. They keep circulating posts even when the blogs are long gone.

And this is why telling artists/writers/creators their work matters means so much. You might be the only one who says it.
