the patches that top secret military units use are so fucking funny

they have a secret budget in the hundreds of billion dollars but they still can't afford a graphic designer

the second one of these is for the unit that refuels secret airplanes. they don't even fly them. the third one is stolen ICP album art

you can just tell that anyone wearing this patch is begging for someone to ask

"The design was inspired, in part, by popular stories about ninjas patrolling Nellis black sites."

Image

"After the Grim Reapers’ existence became public, the Air Force forced the unit to change their name, as it did not pass the Air Force’s requirements for good taste."

apparently the text here is klingon for "don't ask"

also a lot of these are super obviously evil to the point that anyone wearing them has to know that they're the bad guys

if you made your villains wear these in a spy movie people would criticize it for being too on the nose

you've gotta have friends who are older than you, not because you're a dumb kid, but because you'll be terrified of growing up otherwise

being the oldest person you allow yourself to know will eat holes in your brain and you'll start saying weird stuff

Get a hobby that is intergenerational.  The friendships with people much older and much younger than you will mean that wisdom and ideas are shared among many and not isolated among the few.

it’s okay to do things that make your symptoms worse (as long as you’ll stay safe)

every once in a while you need to eat something yummy. or go on a walk. or a trip to the zoo. take a hot shower. cry your eyes out. dance. listen to music. draw for way to long. write. laugh. sit in a cafe with a friend. paint your nails. dye your hair. go on a run. pet a cat

sometimes you need to do things that are cathartic or make yourself feel alive. sometimes you need the reminder of why you’re fighting so hard to stay alive

this is your reminder that just because it makes your symptoms worse, it isn’t always the wrong thing to do. there can be value in these actions

If you think about it too, abled people do it all the time. Deciding to drink to excess at a party knowing they'll have a hangover. Going to a theme park knowing walking all day is going to hurt their feet by the end. We have the right to make those same decisions.

This is called Dignity of Risk, and it's an important concept in disability justice.

Everyone weighs their physical and mental/emotional health against one another in constantly shifting balance; inevitably, there are times when we choose to accept consequences to one for the sake of the other.

Infantilsing us by undermining our agency in the name of "protection" or "care" is yet another way that we are disabled by society.

I recently had surgery, and at the time I came home, I had both my cat and one of my grandma's cats staying with me.

- Within hours of surgery, I wake up from a nap to my cat gently sniffing at my incisions with great alarm.

- I was not allowed to shower the first day after surgery, and the cats, seeing that The Large Cat is not observing its cleaning ritual, decided I must be gravely disabled and compensated by licking all the exposed skin on my arms, face, and legs.

- I currently have to sleep with a pillow over my abdomen because my cat insists on climbing on top of me and covering my incisions with her body while I sleep (which is very sweet but not exactly comfortable without the pillow). She also lays across me facing my bedroom door, presumably on guard for attackers who may try to harm me while I'm sleeping and injured.

That's love. 🐈‍⬛🐈❤️

cats are so very unclear on what is wrong with us but they want to help

Last time I had a really bad migraine my cat curled herself round my head and purred sympathetically, and actually stayed there through two of her normal mealtimes. It wasn't until I was able to stagger to the kitchen and grab a protein bar for myself that she gave a very small, polite miaow to the effect of "while you're up... could you get something for me too?"
