hey, so, i’m really sorry to do this, now of all times, but my rabbit has a fractured leg and bills are piling up. my partner can barely get any hours thanks to the virus, and i’m in the process of getting a new job, but everything has slowed down, again, thanks to the virus. on top of that, someone left a pregnant pet rat on my doorstep almost a month ago, and she had lice, mites, and a respitory infection, which i treated, but it left us completely unprepared for poppy’s broken leg.

i’ve maxed out my care credit and rent is coming up. please, if you could donate even five dollars, it would help make sure not only that my pets stay healthy and alive, but that my partner and i can continue to pay rent. if you can’t donate, please reblog. i hate doing this, but as someone who is basically disowned from my family for being gay, i’m out of options. i’m linking my paypal, and i can give out venmo as well if that’s easier. when things get less crazy, i can send out handmade ceramics or do digital commissions as thank you if desired.

TL;DR: please help a couple of gays and their rescue pets make it through tough times.

please reblog this post ♥️ my gf and i need help.

Y’all have gotta bear in mind that while rent relief is absolutely important, so is mortgage relief. It’s not just a “what about the landlords?” thing; outside of the very largest cities, and especially in rural areas, it’s actually quite common for folks to own their primary residences even if they’re dirt poor – they just end up spending decades in crushing debt as a result. Like, “fuck the owning class” sounds good on paper, but not everybody who owns a house is functionally part of the owning class; a person with a shitty 1000-square-foot bungalow that hasn’t been renovated since 1977 and a thirty-year mortgage to show for it is not your enemy.

I definitely think the thing we need to be arguing is we 100% need both rent and mortgage relief right now

So in Minnesota there’s this cultural taboo about taking the last piece. If there’s a group and everyone orders pizza, typically one slice will not be eaten. At the office if someone brings donuts, the last donut will be left alone. Possibly cut in half. Then that half cut in half, but always leaving at least a little on the plate. The reason is it’s considered impolite because someone else might want it. To take the last piece is a desperate thing to do. There’s even an expression: “I wasn’t raised by wolves.” Anyway, here’s the best local facebook post going around right now.

I saw this and thought to myself, thats so strange because thats a thing here in sweden as well, how two different places so far apart can have the same taboo.. and then I remembered something from history class

Humans are wild, huh?

so my bf's legs are uneven so when he walks he tends to drift left and my hips are twisted I tend to drift right so when we hold hands we cancel out

jk he pulls me closer to him constantly bc I don't pay attention to where I'm going and my body is dead set on making me walk off of the edge of the sidewalk

my left hand/his right hand = cancels out mostly, I still drift a little

my right hand/his left hand = collision course

hang on I gotta google some stuff

yeah this is funny

Because Obama created the pandemic response team. Anything obama started, he destroys.

He’s also cut the budget for the CDC every damn year for the past 3 years

Do not let this be forgot that he not only fired the pandemic team in 2018, but he also most recently refused WHO's COVID-19 testing for Americans in fear that too many positive testing would diminish his chances at a reelection. (X)(X)

Help me study abroad!!

Lol I know I have like no followers, but I’m exhausting all options here.

My parents can’t even help me get a loan because of my dad’s health issues, and I already work full time just to pay the bills while I take classes.

Italy is literally my DREAM destination, because my family is from Italy (Great grandpa came to the US as a kid)

Please donate or just reblog if you can!!!

people seem to have trouble understanding why i’m an anti-capitalist, so i’m going to try and put it into simple, real-life terms.

i work at a restaurant. i make $12 an hour, plus tips. minimum wage where i live is relatively high for my country - the national minimum wage is $7.25/hr, and has not been raised since 2009. before taxes, working full time, my yearly income is about $22,000 a year. ($25,000 if you count tips)

at my job, we sell various dishes, with an average price of about $10-$15. we get printouts every week detailing how much money we made that week; in one week, our restaurant makes about $30,000. (one of our other locations actually makes this much on a daily basis!)

i’m not going to go into details, but after the costs of production (payroll for employees, rent for the building, maintenance, and wholesale food purchasing) are accounted for, the restaurant makes an estimated profit of $20,000 per week.

this profit goes directly to the owner, who does not work at this location. the owner of my restaurant has actually been on vacation for a few months, but still profits from the restaurant, because they own it. i have met the owner exactly twice in my year of working here.

to put this into perspective, the owner of this restaurant earns in 2 days what they pay me in one year. and that’s just from this single location - the owner has several other restaurants, all of which make more money than the one i work at. this ends up resulting in the owner having an estimated net worth of tens of millions of dollars, even after accounting for the payroll for every single worker in their employ.

now, i have to ask you: does the owner of my restaurant deserve this income? did they earn it? did their labor result in this value being created?

the naive answer would be “yes”; the owner purchased the location and arranged for the raw ingredients to be delivered, did they not?

the actual answer is “no”. the owner may have used their initial capital to start the location, but the profit is a result of my labor, and the labor of my co-workers.

the owner purchases rice at a very low bulk price of about 25 cents a pound. i cook the rice, and within a few minutes, that pound of rice is suddenly worth about $30. the owner did not create this value, i did. the owner simply provided the initial capital investment required to start the process.

what needs to be understood here is that capitalists do not create value. they use the labor of their employees to create value, and then take the excess profit and keep it.

what needs to be understood is that capitalists accrue income by already HAVING money. the owner of my restaurant was only able to get this far because they started off, from the very beginning, with enough money to purchase a building, purchase food in bulk, and hire hundreds of employees.

that is to say: the rich get richer, and they do so by exploiting the labor of the poor.

the owner of my restaurant could afford to triple the income of every single person in their employee if they felt like it, but this would mean that they were generating less profit for themselves, so they do not.

the owner of my restaurant pays me the current minimum wage of my area, because to them, i am not a person. i am an investment. i am an asset. i am a means to create more money.

when you are paid minimum wage, the message your boss is sending you is this: “legally, if i could pay you less, i would.”

every capitalist on the planet exploits their workers for their own gain. every capitalist, even the small business owners, forces people to stay in poverty so that the capitalist can profit.

This is a really good post

not to be dramatic but we desperately need a punk movement to come in and wash away this Instagram model airbrushed picture perfect trend. it’s so damaging……teens, young adults, kids, the Grown….all of us need to just. we need to be sweaty again. we deserve it smeared eyeliner…..idk just. it’s okay if ur hair is greasy please just relax & then get mad about stuff that’s important to you.

okay not to sound like I’m preaching about the meaning of Emo to my mom in 2008 but the thing is, especially when you’re young, things are all messy and sort of falling apart, and you’re confused and angry and sad and that’s alright,

but there used to be this idea among my friends and peers that it was okay to LOOK the way you felt. falling apart? cool, brag about how your eyeliner is on day three and you’re in the same hoodie you always wear. no, it’s not the same as getting help, but at least you’re VENTING.

now, there’s so much pressure to hide it. to bottle it all up. Instagram isn’t the root cause, but it really is a shrine to our current mainstream push to make our lives look perfect to the onlooker. It’s not healthy!!!!

We just need to be allowed to look like shit when we feel like shit again!!!!!

Look like shit 2020!!!!!!!!!!

I just feel that even though we’ve made leaps and bounds in the realm of mental health discussion and such it’s all so SANITIZED now. sure, you can mention your issues, but don’t display any of the ugliness of it. You have to look acceptable. the model of recovery. I’m rejecting it!!!

in 2020 we’re going to embrace ugliness and be vocal about our greatest challenges!!!!!!!

An action being “punishable by a fine” basically means “legal for rich people”.

Oh wow. That’s…

I once dated a rich guy and if I said “Hey it’s illegal to drink on the street” he’d respond with “Nah, it just costs £150″, or “You can’t park here!” “Yeh I can it costs £35″ like… literally… that’s how he saw fines, it was just how much you paid to do the thing.

Reminds me of the double red lines in London. They exist because rich people kept parking on double yellow lines (which mean “no parking” in the UK) and then just paying the fines. So London started putting double red lines on major roads. If you park on double red lines, they don’t give you a ticket. They tow your car away and crush it.

I like that.

Some countries do day fines. Like the fine is what you make in a day. I like that idea

How does that make any sense? A fine is a monetary penalty for violating a minor law. If the law is being violated the exact same way, then it deserves the same punishment. Basing the degree of punishment based on any characteristic of the offender is not justice. Justice is supposed to be blind.

No it’s supposed to be a punishment. Something to deter future violations. And if it doesn’t even register then it’s not a punishment

If I fined you one cent for speeding you’d have no incentive not to speed. Anyone would because there is no cost

Your parents didn’t ground you for a minute. They grounded you so that it hurt. It cost you something

A day fine is the same cost to each person - one days wages. It’s equitable and fair. What those respective days wages are is irrelevant. Just that they both pay the same thing. That the cost is the same to each

Your parents don’t ground each sibling based on how long they’ve been alive. The punishment fits the crime not the offender.

Actually, at young ages “time outs” tend to be based on age - often 1-2 minutes per year old. And punishments get more severe as you get older (while also being based on the rule breaking)

Punishments also are different child to child. My sister loved to watch TV, so she would get grounded from TV. My other sister had a landline in her room, so she would get that taken away.

Also speeding tickets - if you have a clean record, an officer will often let you off with a warning or reduce the speed recorded to lessen the fine/points added. Once again, based on the person.

So the punishment (in some areas) fits the offender AND the crime.

i learned that Binghamton University researchers have been working on a self-healing concrete that uses a specific type of fungi as a healing agent. When the fungus is mixed with concrete, it lies dormant until cracks appear, when spores germinate, grow and precipitate calcium carbonate to heal the cracks (x)

lmao😂/smh🙄

Eli Bosnick had the best response to this ridiculousness.

“If I gave you a bowl of skittles and three of them were poison would you still eat them?”
“Are the other skittles human lives?”
“What?”
“Like. Is there a good chance. A really good chance. I would be saving someone from a war zone and probably their life if I ate a skittle?”
“Well sure. But the point-”
“I would eat the skittles.”
“Ok-well the point is-”
“I would GORGE myself on skittles. I would eat every single fucking skittle I could find. I would STUFF myself with skittles. And when I found the poison skittle and died I would make sure to leave behind a legacy of children and of friends who also ate skittle after skittle until there were no skittles to be eaten. And each person who found the poison skittle we would weep for. We would weep for their loss, for their sacrifice, and for the fact that they did not let themselves succumb to fear but made the world a better place by eating skittles.
Because your REAL question…the one you hid behind a shitty little inaccurate, insensitive, dehumanizing racist little candy metaphor is, IS MY LIFE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF MEN, WOMEN, AND TERRIFIED CHILDREN…
… and what kind of monster would think the answer to that question… is yes?”
