Some people have plaques and certificates that illustrate how their dreams came true. I have my pictures.

Brock Mills Gallery is pleased to present HAWAII "The Celebration". It is the gallery's fourth release of photographs by Brownsville, New York born artist Brock Mills running simultaneously with MAMMOTH. The photos were taken from 9-15 September, 2019. Brock says, "It is ironic that my older brother chose to celebrate his birthday on an island inhabited by many people when he has been on island all by himself his whole life." Here are fifteen of Brock's favorite pics during their seven day/six night stay in Honolulu. All prints are 24 x 36. Only three prints of each photo will be printed. A very limited series celebrating the life of a one of a kind individual. The photographs are printed on Canson Infinity Arches Aquarelle Rag. A genuine 100% rag watercolor paper, Arches Aquarelle Rag possesses the unique structure, surface texture, and warm white tone that demanding artists expect from a traditional fine art paper. It’s compatible with pigmented and dye inks, dries instantly, and is water-resistant. The absence of optical brightening agents ensures consistency for generations. All images will be printed, and signed. Please click HERE to enter HAWAII "The Celebration".  We thank you for your investment.

The Bigger Picture

I don’t take Drake level selfies with my shirt off and my lips poking out. No knock, but that is a different kind of flex. I am much more of a self-portrait man. Ya know, rest the camera on a tripod or a chair (in this case), and let the remote or timer do its job. No camera phone. Just my trusty D750. If I have not yet made it clear, I vote for self-portraits over selfies. I admit selfies have that convenience factor, but self-portraits teach you so much about photography. Self-portraits involve a little more thought and time, but you learn a lot about your style as a shooter and how to get the best out of your subjects. Selfies teach also. Like how to angle your arm to highlight your best side and make your features appear more favorable (Ha). A good selfie has its place tho. After all you can’t take a self-portrait when you are courtside at a Laker game. I am not trying to prove that one is better than the other, but if you are trying to appear less vain and want to appear more artistic, plus you have time on your hands then a self-portrait is the way to go. I encourage more shooters to take self-portraits. You learn so much about lighting and editing. You also learn about how your camera works when you’re not working, but more importantly you learn plenty about yourself.

Half & Half

This is the Half Dome. It is 8,864 feet high. With a nice set of binoculars or with a fine squint, you can see hikers and climbers making their way up and down the Half Dome. The first shot is film and the second is digital. I can’t say I like one over the other. Both cameras produce different hues and textures that make me love’em both the same! Both are also available for purchase HERE

Take Ya Pic[k]

When I say F5 or D750 I wonder what the average person thinks? Even as a professional photographer I think about cars. Maybe it is because I have a new found love for automobiles since I recently got a car and my license. If I had a tough time choosing which car to drive that would be lit, but for now I only have that dilemma when it comes to choosing cameras. I have fallen in love with film photography so much that I rarely use my DSLR anymore. I know I will use it for my next shoot of course, but the likelihood of fully converting to film is a real possibility. I took one of the pictures with my Nikon F5 and the other with my Nikon D750. I can’t even tell them apart. Can you?

iDrive

I got a car. I named her Africa. I got a license. All in that order. Six months ago I could not drive. I did not even have a learner’s permit. I moved to California on May 26, 2019. Here I am now. Thank you to my wife, and my in-laws for the behind the wheel experiences over the past few months. I know I scared you all a few times, but it was all in fun. Vroooom vroooom!
