Since I had that KHUX post take off it seems like a good time to re-plug me and @organizationhimself's 100% COMPLETE Dark Road divergent timeline au fic, which diegetically is about Sora and Riku stumbling into Dark Road smack in the middle of Agrabah and deciding to run themselves ragged trying to intervene and prevent Xehanort from becoming... Well... Xehanort.... But which metatextually is an 86k word excuse to explore the way Sora and Xehanort are foils, their complementary fatal flaws, and whether it really is possible in Kingdom Hearts to defy fate.

This game is wildly important to myself and so many others, and to draw the whole squad for such a special project was totally surreal! I was in the midst of some really heavy stuff while making this piece, but it helped to pour myself into something so intensely.

Dang lmao I pre-ordered 3 zines, one in early October, one in early November, and one in early January, and they're all arriving within a week of each other, two weeks after blowing a ton of money on merch at a physical convention and one week after blowing a ton more on merch at a digital convention.

a little insane about the dialogue at the very end of khdr implying that the reason xehanort was taken away to the remote destiny islands as a baby was because as the child of destiny he needed to be protected from darkness. like.

1. what sort of turmoil was scala in at the moment that they thought it wasn’t safe for him there. was someone actively searching for him with dangerous intent or were they just worried. what’s gonna happen at the end of khml???????

2. xehanort hated being raised on a tiny island separated from the rest of the world. this isolation and longing for more- combined with him absorbing player’s insane memories- would play a part in leading him down his path of darkness, doing anything to escape and find the answers he sought. in other words either they were completely wrong about him being the child of destiny in the first place and did all this to that poor kid for nothing or he really was the child of destiny but the stuff they put him through in an attempt to preserve him as the chosen one actually backfired and turned him into someone no longer worthy of whatever that prophecy entailed
