this way of framing the problems that public libraries are facing is genuinely so upsetting and disingenuous because i KNOW what they're actually complaining about. it's the way that libraries have been forced into the position of providing some of the only accessible social services for homeless patrons and young people. and the reason THAT has happened is because the right wing of this country has cut and cancelled so many of the other options people used to have.

public library employees are often the last available resource for the most vulnerable members of our communities and we are NOT trained well enough or paid well enough for the work we are being made to take on, regardless of how noble or scandalous people think it is.
