What do we say to the god of Death? Not today.

Not sure how many of these you've read, but here you go either way:

Darkness, Flooded in Light by galaxysoup is a perennial favourite of mine. Loki falls to Earth at the end of Thor 1 and winds up somewhere he can heal and recover. So much angst.

The Golem verse by Cephei - Loki as the magitech Asgardian equivalent of an android. Also all the angst.

The Great Subconscious Club series by Mikkeneko - MCU/Xmen crossover where Xavier helps Loki out after Thor messes up bringing him back to Asgard at the end of the Avengers. Starts out pretty angsty, but also healing during the course of it.

The Proper Care and Management of Cat Gods by Mac_and_Lana - Loki gets turned into a cat hybrid after an accident. Cracky premise, but treated pretty seriously, which is my favourite kind of crack.

I know it's not exactly 1:1, but "Warrior of the Mind" and "My Goodbye" from Epic the Musical give me such Gale and Mystra thoughts.

Especially these bits:

Have you forgotten the lessons I taught you? Have you forgotten to turn off your heart? This is not you I see you changing from how I've designed you Have you forgotten your purpose? Let me remind you - Warrior of the Mind

This way, you'll know what your place is This way, you can't cross the line This way, when all is over you'll keep yours and I'll keep mine This way, you won't disappoint me This way, you won't waste my time This way, I’ll close the door Consider this as my goodbye - My Goodbye

Though the rest of the latter song works better with a Gale more outwardly angry at Mystra than he actually allows himself to be. Shh, let me dream.

“wow you blocked me just cuz i disagreed with you???”

yes. yes, exactly. this is a social media site. i come here to look at pictures of birds and shitpost with my friends. this is not a town hall meeting; i am not your elected official. i do not owe you my energy, my space, or my time. you and i are strangers that use the same website. i can block you for literally any reason and that’s okay. take a deep breath. block me too. you’ll feel better.

normalise low blocking thresholds… blocking someone arguing with you is not weak or over-reacting or whatever.

Because I’ve just blocked the third new follower with pro-birth beliefs in as many days, I just want to make one thing clear:

I am completely and totally pro-choice. Pro-birth people are not welcome here and will be blocked on sight.

Lost three followers since I posted this.

Good.

Here’s the thing. If you actually cared about reducing the rates of abortion and little reality-based things like evidence, you would be advocating for things like comprehensive sex ed, robust welfare and social services, easily-accessed contraception, and, yes, legal abortion services. All of those help reduce the rates of abortions, as shown by evidence.

But pro-birthers are instead advocating for the exact opposition in every case, and pushing for laws that criminalize having a miscarriage, because it might be induced instead of natural.

And that gives away the game on what the goal is. It’s not to “protect the unborn”. It’s to punish people with jail time or poverty.

So I really want to have nothing to do with a bunch of lying reactionary assholes who say one thing, and do another. (And that’s not even getting into various other factors, like the principle of bodily integrity, or right to privacy, or personal things like how my own mother wouldn’t be alive today if Roe v. Wade hadn’t been on the books when I was 3).

Here is Dutch proof that all the points made above actually work if you do the work.

I will forever be pro-choice and if you’re not you’re not welcome here.

Exactly. But despite their protests to the contrary, they don’t actually want to reduce the rates of abortion. They just want to punish people and abortion is a convenient excuse.

loki-survey

The Loki survey is evaluated!

In August 2021, I conducted a survey to examine what might have led to the highly divided opinions regarding the Disney + show Loki (2021). The survey gathered over 500 responses. In my survey, the majority of the respondents identify as women, but the survey also got above average feedback from non-binary and genderfluid fans. In this survey, about 75% of the respondents liked the show, 15% disliked it, and 5% felt neutral about it. Several tested variables turned out to be significantly connected to the enjoyment of the show, which converged towards three major factors affecting the enjoyment while watching the show.

Firstly, the enjoyment of non-binary, including genderfluid fans, and respondents who felt strongly about representation was moderately reduced by the execution of the representation in the show.

Secondly, respondents who had deeply desired Loki to have a love interest and those who enjoyed his interaction with Mobius reported a moderately increased enjoyment. However, a third of all respondents who liked the show reported a high preference for one of the two relationships over the other, indicating a strong rivalry among the two groups, which most likely contributed to the increased confrontations among Loki fans on social media.

The people who disliked the show did not favor one possible relationship (Mobius vs Sylvie) over the other. Thus, the shipwar is mostly limited to the fans who enjoyed the show.

Lastly, respondents who considered Loki a morally good character, liked Thor (2011), or disliked Thor: Ragnarok (2017) reported a reduced enjoyment.

The highest correlation with a dislike of the show was associated with perceiving Loki acting out of character. This may be attributed to fans who saw Loki as a morally good character and were unable to recognize him in the portrayal in the show since the show heavily depended on Loki being motivated narcissism, as a starting point for his redemption arc.

Calculated over all responses to the survey, Loki’s likeability decreased within the show, with episode 6 marking the first time the likeability of the installment surpasses Loki’s likeability as a character. Between the opinions of the respondents who liked the show and those who did not, an increasing divide is visible in the categories of Loki’s relatability, likeability, and in-character acting.

Interestingly, the starting point of the division coincides with the disbanding of the Marvel Creative Committee in 2015. Possible causalities, as well as who was the favorite Loki variant, and which characters the respondents would like to see in the second season are being discussed in the complete paper you can find here or here as a pdf.

I will try to answer possible questions as soon as possible, but it might take me several days to do so.

My thoughts go out to everyone suffering in Ukraine right now. If you can, please consider helping those in need!

Reflection: Part One

AKA: Episode Two is here.

“Anything to say in your defense?” Mobius drew his eyes away from her, his guilt evident in his expression. “Ravonna, that was Loki,” he attempted, and Ravonna tilted her head, leveling him with a skeptical look. Bold words for someone who had claimed mere hours ago he had everything fully within his control. His face reddened. “I… I know what I said, but you couldn’t actually have expected me to—” Ravonna raised a finger, cutting him off, and Mobius snapped his mouth shut.

Wtf is going on??

They sent me this then just deleted their blog. It's as good as sending an anon. And just as cowardly.

Didn't even get a chance to report them in time. They were already gone.

@mobius4afewsecondssoicanharassastrangeronline exceeded the character limit. RIP, non-anon anon.

sorry, i mean @mobius4afewsecondsatatimesoicanharassstrangersonline exceeded the character limit. my apologies for misrepresenting you.

OMFG, WTF??

Did they actually just remake their account, JUST to message you? 🤣

You know, for all the complaining we do about the show, at least we aren't pathetic enough to send people anon hate (or as good as) over differing opinions about it.

Nonnie, how about some advice y’all constantly love to give us? It’s just a show! It’s just fandom! If you find yourself so affected by it to the point of harrassing people instead of just blocking them, maybe you have some unresolved trauma in your life that caused you to attach yourself to Mobius so much? You know, some sort of...oh, I don’t know, hostile attribution bias against people who don’t kiss the show’s ass.

Either way, take a deep breath, go offline for a bit, and go fuck yourself. You might feel better :)

Because Nonnie, Mobius ain’t gonna fuck you either.

Simulacra: Part One

aka: the first part of Episode One.

His heart throbbed in his ears. His head still reeled with incessant, throbbing pain, his mind still bleeding from the scars left by the insidious tendrils that had only recently been torn away from his brain. Every muscle in his body ached with a pain that had been his most constant companion for an eternity; every bone within begged for rest and screamed for respite, the throbs of the countless ugly burns that still marred his back both a reminder and a testament to all that he’d suffered. Yet Loki knew he could not rest yet. Not when his mission—a glorious purpose entirely his own—remained unfulfilled.

I'm so tired... And it sucks that I even have to spell it out for people, but sending anon hate to someone for having a different opinion about fiction no less, is depraved and disgusting. And if you're trying to trigger them intentionally after reading what they've gone through, that just adds an extra layer of ableism to it, and makes it even more vile and disgusting.

The fact that I even have to say this is a shame. It should be the barest minimum a human could do, but right now all I see are the worst of the worst in my inbox. I get a few good ones but they're sparse, while the hate keeps piling up and getting worse. I've noticed an influx after the show, hell, even months after and I'm getting so much hate for being so vocal about my dislike for a piece of media. I had to delete and report one ask that was basically just a string of racial slurs. Which brings me to my next point.

I've noticed, and so have my white friends that the hate I'm getting is far worse than anything they've ever gotten for expressing the same opinions. They've apparently got one liner insults but nothing ever to the degree I've gotten. And it occurred to me... I'm openly Indian. My picrew is very much brown skinned, my url is very telling and I can't help but wonder if this arouses internalised racism in some of my askers.

South Asian women in general are seen as very polite, meek and are often expected to be a little more silent and non confrontational. I'm nothing like that. I never will be. And I've also noticed that when it comes to asks I'm asked to shut up a lot. A thing that people of colour are often asked to do as soon as we get too loud. Too vocal about mistreatment and our experiences feel too real, too human. You know, because till then we can be used for tokenism and treated as these exotic but oh so poor and helpless creatures that need to be saved by caring white people. Hell, I talk about colonialism and I've had my points echoed back to me, but twisted and with no understanding of their meaning by a white person thinking they were doing something great talking about something they had no idea about.

The reason I'm getting this level of vitriol is not just because I disagree with them, and not just because I'm vocal about my dislike for something they love... It's because I'm a woman of colour doing so. I'm a woman of colour who's vocal about her experiences, her background, her culture, even her generational trauma. I swear a lot, I curse to a degree most people don't (I love it so I'm certainly not stopping) and I'm definitely not afraid to call shit out. Everyone loves and supports poc for as long as we sit quiet and act like perfect victims for them to show off for their tokenism. But as soon as we act like ourselves, as soon as we show ourselves to be too HUMAN their sole goal, suddenly becomes trying to shut us up and shut us down. And they'll employ any means to do it.

To shorten this, the fandom has exposed it's racism with it's recent behaviour. It's not just in my anons. It's also the notes of our posts. It's in the Loki discord servers. It's fucking everywhere. It's openly so on quite a few blogs, where characters of colour are getting demonised more in comparison to white characters. Poc coded characters also suffer from the same discrimination while characters who are practically Nazis are being hailed. We are being talked down to and talked over. We are being asked to shut up, we are being targeted and harassed.

There's a reason I received a string of racial slurs after I made an anti post. The fandom was mostly white for quite a while. Now that they've seen us in their fandom space, relating to Loki, loving him, caring for him and relating our real life experiences with racism and colonialism with his... They want us out of their white turf. It was poc who even had to START the conversation on Loki's poc coding and fantasy poc background. We're here to stay and we certainly aren't shutting up about it. You can send ad much hate as you want... But I'm not leaving, I'm not shutting up. Die mad about it racist cunts.

You want me to take shit from you because you think you're superior in some way. More right in some way. Hell, I couldn't even cuss out and get angry about a racist and ableist person in the notes of a post without being told to shut up again. To be "nice and civil" if I wanted my "experiences to be validated and heard". Somehow I'm more deserving of the hate. Its not horrible when it's done to me, but it's horribly when it happens to a blonde, white actress. The fandom has exposed it's racism.

I’m sorry you have to deal with these racist shitstains. As someone who also hates the show and has been pretty vocal about it, I got maybe...5? anons that tried to start shit. And none of them were anywhere near the level of viciousness that your anons are.

These chucklefuck cowards wouldn’t be nearly so quick to spew so much shit your way without their veil of anonymity. They don’t even have the decency or balls to say it to your face...not that anyone saying those things to anyone (anon or not) is in any way decent. Imagine thinking that someone disliking a show is in any way justification for racist insults and slurs? Harrassment is never ok.

All I can recommend is turning off anon and liberally blocking people. Not that you need me to give you advice.

I truly hope you stop getting these assholes in your askbox and that they wake up and realize the harm they’re doing to a real person over a fucking show.
