I saw the penguin parade. It was a very slow parade, because the pingüinos take their sweet time and aren’t very fast walkers to begin with.

I feel like the world needs to know the context of the edinburgh zoo penguin parade, becausr I’ve been going there my entire life and I only found out about this the other year.
So a while back (I can’t remember exactly when but I think it was some time around the 40s/50s), a bunch of penguins escaped. A keeper left the gate open so a bunch of penguins just… followed them. And the people loved it. Look at these adorable birds outside their cage just following that guy around! So they get all the penguins back inside and realise that none of them really ran off, they just followed the keeper and went back inside and crowd thought it was amazing, so why not make it a regular thing? Get enough people there that if one of them goes to make a run for it (which at least one has in the past), they can’t get past the people, and let the ones who want outside have a little wander. So every day, they get a crowd, they open the gate, and whatever penguins want to get out can go, waddle about, squawk at people, and then hop back inside.
Also, one of those penguins is Brigadier Sir Nils Olaf III, Colonel-in-cheif of the Norwegian King’s Guard. This isn’t really related to the parade at all, I just love the fact that there’s a penguin in the Norwegian army

i guess it’s really easy to overlook minimus’ canon OCD, considering i never see it involved in any of the fanfics i read
which, fair, one might argue that the OCD just isn’t there… when it is.
often, we view OCD as a gag disorder. depression and anxiety are taken more seriously, but OCD is relegated to a role of “haha things out of order makes me upset!” OCD isn’t just organizing things bc it looks nice. it’s a disorder fixated on control and security taken to extremes. an extreme need for security manifests primarily as intrusive thoughts, control manifests as extreme guilt and hoarding, and the two together manifest as the obsessions, compulsions
and we see that in minimus, just subtle. ish. because it’s very blatant if you understand OCD. stickler for rules (because rules keep people safe), never relaxing and never having fun (because that’s a distraction from maintaining safety), the order and cleanliness hyperfixation, the reluctance to be outside of his armor (because, let’s be fair, you can’t protect that well if you’re a minibot), the extreme guilt and blaming himself if something goes wrong (see MTMTE 50, “it’s my fault we’re going to die, i let my guard down”)
tldr minimus has very obvious and serious OCD and id like for this to be addressed more outside of jokes
Not to mention that the driving factors his nervous breakdown occurred because the rules were flaunted so often when he was on the Lost Light with Rodimus and co.
If we recall when they went to Hedonia for that shore leave and Mags had to check if the bar they went to had fire escapes for him to truly relax.

It’s no wonder Ultra Magnus led the Lost Light to Luna 1 so that Tyrest, (a source of stability for Minimus,) could straighten Rodimus out and such like he did for Minimus himself.
Which no doubt hurt himself so much when Tyrest, the creator of the Accord and one he thought to be a source of stability; was revealed to have went off the deep end and took Minimus’ job…
…(that took him out of the shadow of his brother) then threw him in jail then tried to kill him when Minimus called Tyrest out.
Now when Megatron came around, so came another source for stability as the new co-captain rather than Rodimus.
This would later lead to his feelings of betrayal when Megatron was left behind in that Alternate Cybertron and subsequently made Minimus lose control of the Magnus Armor.
People write off this scene so easily and don’t understand that it was utterly important to Minimus that someone read his reports as opposed to Rodimus who we saw earlier did not read them(Later Rod has to manipulate Mims’ feelings to have him functioning again but words to express that dont come to mind.)
Then to remember Minimus has OCD, all of it makes sense, and having it be taken as a joke? Horrible.

“He’s never hit me. It can’t be abuse.” Yes, it can.

There’s this weird culture of telling kids when they stress about school “u ain’t seen nothin yet hun! Wait till u do tax returns! Hahaha adulthood is fucking hell!” And i hate it b/c
1) it’s flat out untrue. Adulthood is a breeze compared to school. I have time to myself to do what I find fun and can make my own choices. Like, yeah, I’m poor and have to take care of myself, but the central activity of my life– work – is waaaaaay easier than school, mentally and emotionally.
2) Part of the reason school made me anxious to the point of considering suicide is that I had this wrong idea, drilled into my head by YEARS of people saying this, that if I didn’t do well in school, I would be a useless member of society, unable to be productive or do anything meaningful. Failing a class meant I might as well be dead. That’s the false equivalence this culture creates. But grades don’t mean SHIT in the workforce unless you’re trying to become a college professor or do something that requires a hella advanced degree.
3) it helps no one to say this! All it does is give mentally ill children, most of whom are already struggling to get through the DAY, the idea that it will only get much, much worse. I know I couldn’t cope with that thought. Any future planning past my 20s was blocked out in a haze of terror at the thought of having to persevere that long, only to get a shittier situation at the end. But it’s not shittier. I have to be more responsible, but this is a piece of goddamn cake compared to even High School. The only reason to say this to a teenager is to inflate your own sense of superiority over someone who is still learning how the world works.
So like. Can we kill this culture? Please?
Honestly, all of this. Being a teenager comes with far more restrictions and expectations than being an adult. There is nothing to fear from adulthood. There are people and programs to help you with things like taxes, housing, and managing your finances. You will no longer have a set time you have to be in bed. You can eat whatever you want for breakfast. You can leave the house at 2 a.m. to buy candy. Go out and adopt a pet. Fill the living room with styrofoam packing peanuts. No one can tell you not to.
And you know what? IT’S OKAY TO FAIL SOMETIMES. It’s okay to lose a job: Most of the people you’ll meet in life have lost a job at least once before. It doesn’t make you any less of a person–or even a bad worker–and you CAN move past it.
Your future is up to you, but pursue it at whatever speed feels the most comfortable for you. Just remember never to lose your sense of wonder and adventure.
I hated it when adults tried to act as though we had it easy. We had to go to school for seven hours every day - which is less than most adults have to work for, and where the whole idea that we have it better comes for - but, in general, most adults get to leave their work at work. They can come home after work and relax and do whatever they feel like. We bring home homework, revision, are expected to attend extra-curricular activities, socialise healthily, and have at least eight hours sleep. It’s not possible.
The same goes for the weekend. In general, a majority of adults get the whole weekend free, out of work, to do whatever they want. In contrast, most kids have weekend jobs, on top of extra homework and revision that was physically impossible to do during the time constraints of our week. Which is another point: adults work however many hours in order to earn money. Children are obligated to go to school for free and have to earn money in their spare time.
So, tell me, who’s really got the worse deal here?
