put aside all my reading plans to try black wings beating by alex london because its been on my shelf for forever and i need something a little easy to read rn (its YA). i read his proxy/guardian series waaaaaay back in the day (when i was actually the target audience for YA) and liked it decently enough so i was pretty curious to return to his writing. and first impressions are good! glad we immediately get right into the thick of falconry and what it means to these characters' culture, history, way of life and livelyhood. very interesting and effective worldbuilding in a very short amount of time. i cant believe ive never encountered falconry in a fantasy book before but the heavy focus on it even in just the first 60 pages is awesome.
