Shield of Whiterun wip

This is actually entering the home stretch more than anything, but heres a couple pics of a shield commission I’m working on :D

Here’s the shield, all masked off, and a base coat of grey primer on the edge!

once the primer was down, I used hammered metal finish grey, rustoleum,. then rubbed brilliant aluminum powder on it using my fingers  when it was tacky to make the raised areas “pop”.  It was super bright, so i tonedd it back down using some matte clear krylon (most clear spray paints dull chromey looking things).

Below, was the weathering, using acrylic paints brushed on (a mix of black & dark brown transparent, and siennna brown opaque), then wiped off. the middle is where its wiped off.

Here’s the current state of the shield, once i did some washes to get in the grooves of the shield. Next up is the handle!

“What followed [Star Wars] was a deluge of science-fiction films, many of them rushed into production in an attempt to capitalize on what might just be a passing craze. “The kids are nuts for space movies now,” the logic went, “so let’s load ’em up with space movies until they decide they want something else.”

I loved Laserblast and have clue no idea why, that movie was terribad

Shield of Whiterun Wip

Sorry if it appears that I’m bouncing around between a bunch of projects...

Because I am!

between waiting for silicone to set, I’ve been working on a shield commission.

The guy who commissioned it asked me to follow Harrison Krix of Volpin props’s method of sandwiching insulation foam inbetween two sheets pf plywood to lighten it up! .

painting plywood and expecting it to look like wood is just not gong to happen, so here I’m engraving wood to make it look like wood before painting it to look like wood.

Here’s a closeup of the grain i carved, I’m way happier with it than i expected to be lol

More work needs to be done of course.  this was done with dremel cutoff wheels.

“I formed an emotional bond with my weapons and armor. Although daedric is currently the best I can smith and improve right now I just can’t part with my Nordic sword or my Nordic armor, I’ve been through so much with it since the beginning of this play through.”
