During college, Jackson and Danny share an apartment in New York. They're both going to Columbia, Jackson is pre-law and Danny is an engineering major. Jackson is with Lydia, trying their relationship again as adults who are much different people than they were, and Danny never dates anyone seriously. Then Ethan shows up injured, and he's the one guy Danny really loved, so Danny helps him out, but there's ~tension because Danny said he didn't want to be involved and it's been years, so why?

Jackson sits Danny down with a bottle of Jack. Because this is Jackson’s idea of being emotionally supportive. The alcohol can’t get Jackson drunk, but it’s a prop. Danny knows that Jackson’s father was never emotionally demonstrative without at least a few belts of liquor in him. This is Jackson being nice. 

“Danny,” Jackson says. “We’re not in Beacon Hills anymore.” 

“Clearly,” Danny agrees. 

“I mean there’s no Hale or McCall or fucking hellmouth–”

“Nemeton,” Danny corrects. 

Jackson takes a swig of Jack. “What-the-fuck-ever. My point is, if you want to date that douchebag Ethan, I will support you one hundred percent.” 

“By calling him a douchebag?” 

“Yes.” 

It’s been a long time since that year in high school when it seemed like people around them were dropping like flies. When Danny didn’t know exactly what was going on, but knew it had something to do with Ethan. With Ethan, and Aiden, and Scott McCall and Derek Hale and werewolves. 

It’s a world Danny doesn’t want any part of, and he tries to tell Jackson that. 

Jackson rolls his eyes. “But you’re already a part of it. I’m a werewolf, and Lydia is a banshee. You think anything targeting us is going to ignore you?” 

“Way to be comforting, Jax.” 

“Way to be stupid,” Jackson replies. “Danny, I’m just saying that unless you’re going to dump me as your friend–which you’d better not–then you’re already in the secret club. You might as well be getting laid for your trouble.” 

Well, he has a point. 

They drink the Jack. Danny texts Ethan the next morning. They go on their first date on Friday night. It’s their first of many, many more to come.
