DAVID KELLY, WINS COVETED COMMUNICATION ARTS AWARD

Pittsburgh, PA - David Kelly, one of the region’s top active lifestyle and portrait photographers, has been selected as one of the 2017 Communication Arts 58th Annual Photography Winners. Since 1959, Communication Arts has published the best in visual communications from around the world. For creatives seeking recognition, their annual juried awards rank amongst the most prestigious and influential competitions in the world.

Kelly was selected for his work on Big Dog Coffee, which vied with 3,736 other entries. Only 141 of those entries -- including David’s Big Dog work, won an award, which are chosen on the basis of creative excellence and quality of execution.

In addition, this work also won a Gold award and two Silver awards in the Out-of-Home and Ambient Media category in Pittsburgh’s 2016-2017 American Advertising Awards.

The Big Dog Coffee work was created in collaboration with Jeff Barton and Sam Panico (formerly of Gatesman and now partners and co-founders of Jam X Creative), as well as a team that included Jay Giesen and Bryan Vorp (Gatesman), Arthur Germer and Kelly Poorman (formerly Gatesman, now Moxie, who also donated the modeling skills of their dogs) and Braden Mackie (formerly Gatesman, now Travel Tripper). It was inspired by the fine coffee and treats available at Big Dog Coffee, located at 2717 Sarah Street in Pittsburgh.

David Kelly is an active lifestyle and portrait photographer who collaborates with advertising agencies, direct business and editorial departments. His style? Hip. Modern. Stylish. Always willing to push the boundaries to create something new. And above all else, pure fun. In a world saturated by media, messaging and images, his goal is to always create something that breaks through the clutter.

Dave has gained a high level of recognition for his personal work, such as the “Kelly Brother’s Christmas Photo That Has Nothing to Do with Christmas” photo series. And he has a diverse clientele that includes UPMC, Red Bull, Clearview Credit Union, Gateway Rehab, Champs Sports, Yelp, Eat ‘n Park, Audi, WUDN and more. Splitting his time between Pittsburgh and LA, Dave’s always looking  for more creative people ready to craft new and exciting ideas with. Follow him on Instagram @davidkellydotco

Gateway Rehab Campaign: a project with Applebox Studios

In October of last year we had two fun filled days creating images for the Gateway Rehab campaign. Working with the team at Applebox Studios and along side their video crew. We created four pieces showcasing our talent getting a fresh start to their new lives. With the lead direction from Michael Wertz and Dan Brettholle.

Throughout 2015 we have been traveling the U.S. with John Miller of Atlas Marketing for the Boilermaker's Union (MOST). With the purpose to rebuild their library of images for marketing and internal usage. It's been a great project thus far and has been going very smoothly. We are photographing boilermakers hard at work during plant outages. Adam and myself had some unique challenges we were faced with working in the tight-dark quarters of the power plants. We've came up with the perfect light set up for the situation that allows us to be mobile and efficient. Limited with our time with the men and women on location we usually only spent a couple of minutes on the portraits and shadowing the crews for several minutes to photograph them as they work without interrupting them.

I send out an email of cool recent projects I work on if you’d like to join it.  http://eepurl.com/bHsGHT
