i’m gonna keep this blog as a music blog for both of my projects (1X4X44R and shedfromthebody) from now on. for those of you that are interested, i’m probably gonna post some music-related updates soon!

if you’re here just for the art, i’m still posting that on my twitter @myxomatonen. see you there.

so uhhh. i’m back i guess.

i mean i've had my account restored for a while now, i’ve just been obstinately refusing to have anything to do with tumblr in a futile effort to stick it to this hellsite. and nothing’s changed i guess, i’m still not going to return to what i had before the purge. i mean obviously. 90% of the content i want to post isn’t allowed anymore. and even if it was, i wouldn’t feel comfortable here anymore anyway.

so. i guess this is just a sound off. if i continue here, i might just dedicate this blog to my music. something i know won’t attract bullshit. who knows, maybe it’ll gain better traction here than elsewhere.

knowing that, are there any of you still out there interested in what i do? if not, i’m probably gonna delete for good.

I don’t usually send asks because I’m kinda shy but I just really wanted to say how much I love your art style!!! I love how when it’s more simplified it looks kind of comic-esque but your realism pieces are amazing too they have so much detail and akdjdidjdkjdb im rambling now but ily!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️

I should have asked this in my first ask, but I have another question, this time about your actual art process: Do you ave any tips when it comes to actually painting? I always start getting discouraged at the point where I'm adding flat colours and values, and if i do make it to that point then I just get so confused by rendering and focused on different brushes that I never get passed the first tiny section. You always render so beautifully in your paintings, and I was you had any tips for it!

if getting both the colors and the values right at the same time intimidates you, i suggest starting with painting only the values! you can always add in color later using layers with the blending mode set to either overlay, color, soft light, multiply, etc. there are plenty of tutorials about that online. or just paint flat out b&w pictures; no one’s rushing you to do color immediately. the best outcome tends to come out of painting both value and color simultaneously, but it’s definitely something you have to learn how to do correctly. a practical tip for coloring would be to always remember that cold highlights need warm shadows and vice versa; never only add black or white, you’ve got to shift the hue and saturation too.

as for brushes, i suggest using only a handful of brushes. don’t get greedy and use ten different brushes for a simple painting. basically you’ll only need a soft opaque round brush for initial value painting and color, a sharp brush for detailing, and a brush with pen pressure opacity for airbrushing. The latter can have some sort of fancy paintbrush texture if you want; just take all the time you need exploring what feels like the right brush set for you!

when starting out your painting, you wanna make sure to focus on the big picture. don’t start out with twiddling with the tiniest details; figure out the basic shapes first and how light and color behaves on them. i usually don’t zoom in very much at all when working, and that helps me stay in my lane, so to speak. don’t focus on one part until it’s finished only to notice you haven’t even started rendering the rest of the painting; it’s good to keep a consistent level of detail throughout the piece all the time when working.

that’s pretty much all i got off the top of my head :’ D

How do ya do yer lineart? It’s thick but expressive

i don’t usually sketch on a separate layer. i just clean up the sketch and make it look like lineart, it makes it look extra Chunky : D

and even if i do do my lineart on a separate layer, i usually make sure not to be too clean and accurate with it. the messier i am, the more line weight variation i’ll have.

Wait, are they crying blood? And Kirishima’s snoot is also blood? Is that a thing in your au or did they fight when they reunited?

yep, vampires cry blood in my au. it only makes sense for the snot to be blood too if the tears are :’ D

Avatar

What did they miscommunicate in the first huge fight in your au? And may I ask if your portrait of bloody vampire bakugou is abt some vampire on vampire violence? And if will there be more angst? (I’m sorry for so many questions!)

Avatar

they miscommunicated feelings, mostly. they’d both been growing closer and closer to one another during their years together, and at some point kirishima started questioning whether his feelings were platonic at all. they’d already established some sort of a fuck buddy relationship, because vampirism sort of walks hand in hand with being very horny all the time. as a maker/progeny couple that only felt natural to them. however, when kirishima began to doubt he was falling for bakugou, he grew scared. what if he was just taking advantage of their bond and using bakugou? taking advantage of him? what if bakugou didn’t like him back and he’d be forced to live alone with his feelings? so, kirishima began distancing himself. he started hanging out with other vampires more, which eventually led to sex. bakugou wasn’t very happy about this. he wasn’t all too clear about the nature of his own emotions either, but he knew something was eating him up inside every time kirishima was with someone else. he began to feel like his company wasn’t sufficient, that kirishima had grown tired of him. meanwhile kirishima continued his escapades, and the more and more he was with different people, the more and more he began realizing that nothing felt the same as bakugou. but he didn’t stop, desperate to find that fulfillment without involving bakugou. at no point did he consider asking bakugou how he actually felt. he just went on and on, and began hating himself for it. he went from a fun, sex-positive, feelgood guy, to someone who needed to be hurt and broken. and at one point, bakugou just had enough. he’d grown tired of feeling so hurt all the time, so miserable every time he saw kirishima with someone else. so he snapped and left.

and you mean the most recent bloody vampire bakugou? i don’t really know, i didn’t have any particular scenario in mind. i just wanted to draw a fangy, bloody-mouthed bakugou lmao :’ D but that first angry bakugou pic tho, that was vampire on vampire violence.

idk abt that angst, depends on what you mean with the question. if you mean “are they at an angsty place right now or in the future?” i’d say no. they went over that angst phase in the 90s. after all that had been cleared up, they just focused on being the best they could to each other, having learned from their mistakes. if you mean “will you be drawing or telling abt more angst?” then yeah?? i guess so?? depends on what i wanna do :’ D

The way you draw skins is super awesome, your colours are fabulous. Sometimes I think I could touch it and it'll be super smooth and soft! Damn it. Do you have some particular tecnique? And.. do you do commissions?

Avatar

thank you!! i guess i don’t have any particular technique, just a lot of practice and resilience :’ D i do usually go from grayscale painting to color, which can sometimes be a bit tricky but painting values first is always a good art hack if you wanna get better at lighting and stuff :’ )

and yeah, i do take commissions! i’ve yet to make a proper prices post so i’ve just been informing the prices and rules to each interested person individually, but i really should make one tho :’ D

But how was Kirishima turned into vampire? And who turned him? ( Since he's the one who turned Bakugou, right?)
