“Honestly Noah, don’t know if I’ll ever be ready to talk about it.”
“Alright...” Noah said, knowing exactly how that felt, “Do you want to do something else instead? I heard the strawberries are ripe in the fields?” He suggested.
“Impossible?” She repeated, “Jeez, I leave for two weeks and suddenly you think you’re some kind of superhero who can beat anyone including me. Who have you been hanging out with?”
“Superhero was your word not mine,” Noah joked and then shrugged, “Myself mostly. Raine a little. I haven’t been spending a lot of time with my brothers and sisters though. Alex is being extra annoying lately.”
“Aren’t you doing that anyway? You’re acting like you’re more important than you actually are. You’re doing a better job at standing here and letting me insult you than you are anything else.”
“Just because I do them anyway doesn’t make them unimportant,” Noah pointed out, “And I am not acting more important than I am. I said I had important things to do and you asked me what I did that was so important. If anything your tone implied that you were more important because you seemed to be saying that nothing I did was important,” He rolled his eyes, “I’ve got a session but don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll find someone else to annoy. It seems to be the only thing you’re good at.”
“Wow,” Alex started, pretending to be shocked, before removing the emotion from her face. “It really, truly, is amazing to see what you think of as important. I would hate to live with your brain every day.”
“Are those things not important?” Noah asked, “Would you rather your head of cabin, the cabin for the god of war in case you forgot, just sat back and did nothing when a potential war is brewing? Those are the important things I do. Did you want me to say stand here and get insulted by you? Because I love hanging out with my oh so loving sister.”
“Are you still going to be this confident when you lose? I just need to know so I know how much I’ll need to spare your feelings.”
“Don’t worry, the ego you love so much won’t be wounded in the impossible circumstance that you win.”
“I would like to argue against that but there’s more important things to put time into besides arguing pointless matters,” Raine waved it away. She tried to help with what she could but Noah clearly had it handled. “Oh is she? I’ll have to say hi to her! Good to know you’re on your more tolerable behavior too,” she teased lightly.
“Well it’s easy to when she keeps me in check,” Noah said, “But don’t tell her that, she’ll hold it over my head.”
Sophia was looking at a letter that came from her Dad, when she saw someone approach, she quickly wiped her tears. “Noah, I don’t really want to talk.” ( @ncahxcrcss )
“Well then I’m just gonna sit,” Noah said, sitting down next to her, “And wait for you to be ready to talk about it.”
“Ah, right, of course,” She repeated with a small laugh, “Well, I hope you enjoyed your two weeks of victory because I’m back now, so…” Emma said, trailing off at the end. “I’ll be honest I don’t think this Friday will be much fun for you.”
“No chance, Em,” Noah said, chuckling, “You’re going down.”
“A nice one?” She repeated, “Oh, you must have me mistaken with someone else. I was thinking more honest, but that’s okay.” Alex wove her hand as if she was waving it off. “Important? Like what? Name one thing you do that’s important.”
“Welcoming new children of Ares, training the younger campers, keeping the armoury organised, cabin inspections, war counsels, head of cabin meetings, guarding the border, shall I go on?” Noah asked, giving her a pointed look.
Emma screwed up her face slightly, looking at him as they turned towards the door to start walking. “Just the once?” She asked, the arm around her mostly comforting, but it also meant she had to walk closer to him than usual, “So who won capture the flag last week?”
“I’ll have to think about it next time,” Noah said and then he grinned, “My team of course. I always lead them to victory.”
Alex lifted her arms as she heard him speak. She always found it fun to rile him up, maybe a little bit too much but it didn’t stop her. “I’m just letting you know, you don’t have to agree but what kind of sister would I be if I didn’t inform you of all your faults?”
“A nice one?” Noah suggested, “It’s not like you don’t have any, Alex, so stop being a brat. I’ve got things to do.”
“Oh Gods– Noah I’m sorry,” Raine exclaimed after accidentally knocking a few weapons off the wall in the weaponry. “I’m awfully clumsy today for some reason,” she admitted, taking a few steps forward and away from the wall. “How are you feeling?”

“You’re always a little bit clumsy, Raine,” Noah said, moving to pick up the weapons quickly but carefully, “You’re alright, no harm done. Thank gods,” He shrugged, “I’m fine. Emma’s back so probably a little more tolerable than usual some might say.”
“Insult you? Why would I do that?” She asked, acting as if she was offended by it, “I missed you, I wouldn’t insult you after that. It was a pure compliment from the top of my heart.”
Noah chuckled, “Alright, I’ll believe you this once,” He put an arm around her shoulder, “Come on, it’s nearly lunchtime. Let’s get food.”
“Well, if I can be honest, those two? they’re almost the same thing. Actually, they are.” Alex countered, snapping back almost as quickly as he was able to. “The new kids with less training than you shouldn’t even get close to beating you. I’m just saying.”
“Sneaky doesn’t mean they beat me at sparring, it means I don’t trust them,” Noah said, “At what point did I say that? Because I didn’t. No one beats me. Stop putting words in my mouth.”
“Ah yes, blood that attracts monsters who try to kill you and a parent who leaves your family and rarely speaks to you, lucky.”
Noah’s smile faltered, “That joke was in poor taste, sorry,” He said, “It’s not like my blood has been kind to me either.”
“Hmm, two lifetimes of being a demigod, seems like the odds are definitely not in my favor, huh?”
“Some might see that as luck,” Noah said. He certainly wouldn’t but some people.
Alexandria pursed her lips slightly as she listened to him speak, making a small ‘tsk’ sound as he finished his sentence, “Or, now hear me out, you’re weak for letting a small child get anywhere near beating you.”
“I never said any of them came anywhere near beating me. Don’t put words in my mouth. Or call me weak,” Noah shot back, “I said they could be sneaky, I never said they could beat me.”
