Snapped this early this afternoon on one of the trails at Lion’s Club Park in Arlington, Jacksonville, Fl.
Heading up to Tennessee for my sisters wedding. Decided to take a more scenic route for part of the trip and got these on SR-185 earlier.
Another derelict, this time on GA-94 west
Had the day off; wishing I could have just sat and taken the time to at least free-draw, read, go on a little photo excursion, or even played Diablo, without feeling guilty. But the person who was supposed to be doing dishes, wasn’t. Take-out was just being left on the table. Even asking for that to be handled by the people who left it is pretty much an exercise in futility. To top it off the lawn was becoming overgrown. And I can’t just stand by for long amidst such a physical cacophony.
Often when I come up to Tennessee to visit family this time of year there’s a feeling of melancholy. But now, peace, and comfort in the stillnes.

Finally, a lull in the rain.
Not as good I was trying for, but I zoomed in as close as I could get. (at Ichetucknee Springs State Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFUx8f3pvZb/?igshid=1aidgsce82n1n (also saw a raccoon at the water’s edge but couldn’t get a photo.
Had a dream that involved a roughly cat-sized orb-weaver walking out of nowhere across my bed into a hole in the wall. A hole that was deeper from front to back than it should have been for a normal house. Where some kittens were also sleeping. I think it had an egg sac too. And before I woke up I was trying to reason out if it was a danger; “It’s an orb-weaver. They only catch things in webs.” “But...it...could EAT them!” Oh yeah, and there wasn’t really enough space to make an effective web, so what was it doing there anyway?! I swear I didn’t take or drink anything last night. Maybe this dream coincided with an apnic episode.
Saw this guy/gal checking things out while I was at the front desk at work. I wish I could have gone out and said hi. #crow (at Ascension St. Vincents Urgent Care) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_U_BVJplrj/?igshid=1uyq0b04a1km5

A thought just occurred to me-perhaps one I’ve had before, but never truly grasped. From a...literary (?) perspective we are living in age that is unprecedented. Say what you might about social media, but never before have so many people been able to share their life story so widely while simultaneously bypassing the costs and limitations of publishing. Provided all this technology is not lost one day, future generations will have a greater window to the past than ever before.
One of my Christmas presents was a book of 365 drawing prompts. The first; "turtle playing a trumpet". Well that's just silly. Everyone knows that turtles have beaks and ergo CAN'T play wind instruments!
A few shots I got earlier tonight after a bagpipe gig at The Lodge at St. Simon's Island. Taken using iPhone 7 Plus and the native camera app.
Why I hate brain sometimes-an internal dialogue I’ve had with myself throughout the day:
“Hey, since you have the day off, maybe you should get a new computer game that you can play offline. You've been thinking about trying Diablo...”. “Eh, I don't know. There's a lot that needs to be done and I could put the money and time toward something more practical. Besides, I'll probably end up only playing for a little while and get bored.” “Well, you need to do SOMETHING for yourself.” “True, but I can read or draw just as easily.” -Later, when my stepdaughter asks me to bring something to her at work: “Okay, since I'm going out, maybe I can at least drive to the store and look. Cool?” “Cool.” -At her work: “So...you still going to the store?” “I don't know. Maybe I shouldn't.” (I went anyway)
Day 9: Swing. My plan was to illustrate a sunset scene. The first thing that came to mind was a tire swing hanging from a tree (possibly dead) in a sandy field across from my home when I was about 7. Gradually the land succumbed to development. Compositionally, I was hoping it would come out better-but, in a way, it was...I don't know... therapeutic, I guess. I don't know if a view like this ever actually took place, but it's nice to imagine, eh?
Inktober day 11: Snow. I was trying to depict a kid trying to catch snow on his tongue. I’m not sure if it’s easy to tell that that's what this is, but it was fun giving it a shot.
