@opaldelight Sorry this is so late, I pretty much had a lot of hospital issues and university deadlines which delayed it but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless! :) Merry Late Christmas and Happy Late Year! :> — Cherry Trees

The Black Paladin walked leisurely down the small walkway, each step as slow and nonchalant as the next, allowing himself time to take in the candylike beauty around him. He wasn’t allowed to walk on the opulent looking grass, the elders had forbid it, saying it would dirty himself to walk on the same ground as the servants. He knew this wasn’t true, as he spoke to them as often as he could, even if they spoke with their heads bowed.

There was one though, one which would come close, one who would look him in the eye. There was a hint of rebellion that shone in those eyes, which pulled him in, wanting to know more. They had begun to speak frequently, creating a bond that was deeper than that of comrades, they had both tasted the forbitten fruit and savoured it thoroughly as they did.

The one time they’d been caught chatting, he had taken the blame, allowing himself to be punished. He didn’t want the servant to be harmed, he could hide his injuries in the shadows of night, but someone so openly wounded in the daylight would be an easy target for the others in his house who were open to publicly displaying their power.

The Black Paladin was a warrior of the night, and the servant was a defiant caretaker of the day, they both knew the consequences that their actions would bring; but their curiosity was too enticing. They had both taken to scheduling their free time around one another, to guarantee they’d have an opportunity to at least be in the presence of one another if they couldn’t talk.

He lightly touched the scar on his face, a remnant of the last punishment he served; If I could stay with him in the sun a bit longer, then perhaps these scars would fade He thought, then perhaps…

He paused momentarily, bringing his bruised right arm down from his face to examine it as he continued to walk. He had gotten off lightly this time, but next time there would be blood to pay. He was a soldier, a damn good soldier, however that didn’t allow him to break what the elders had built, no matter how absurd their rules were.

Suddenly, almost as if he’d been shot, he let out a small spurt of stifled laughter. We don’t even know each other’s names! He mused, how long had they known each other by this point? This revelation was far beyond awkward, and bordered the absurd.

‘Your burst of insanity made me jump!’ The servant chimed, not turning from his work.

Unbeknownst to the paladin, he had unconsciously stopped right next to the servant in question. His skin flushed a deep pink, as he stared blankly at his cherished partner.

‘Shiro’ he announced, trying to hide the embarrassment in his voice, cupping his throat in an attempt to help it not waver.

The servant paused abruptly, and gradually lifted his head up from his work. Time seemed to have stopped for the pair, but the wind continued to blow as defiantly as the servant, scattering the cherry blossom petals around them softly.

The freshly dubbed Shiro felt his throat knot and his stomach tighten whilst waiting for a response. Did I go too far? Did he not want to know? Did he not want this!? He debated, as panic began setting in at the thought of him potentially ruining everything with his revelation.

The retainer twitched his head a little, causing Shiro to tense and refocus. A noticeable sigh was heard, as the servant leant back against the small walkway.

‘It’s Keith’, he stated proudly, dipping his head slightly contrasting his almost regal declaration.

Shiro’s eyes glistened as he bit his lip slightly, trying to hold back a smile he thought he couldn’t possess.

‘Thank-you…’ he uttered, forcing the words through his overwhelmed throat, as his entire being was overcome with joy.

sheith secret santa post

first things first: this is for @ditaauraart, i want to apologize ahead of time that this is so late, my ass got fucked up with finals and school and it was a fuckin mess, and then my ass got strep and i thought i was going to die, but now im okay and here is your story and my god if you don’t love pls tell me and we can work something out to where i can write you something else, also sorry it’s not the very best story but i liked it and i hope you do as well.

Part 1: The Beginning

Shiro’s leg straightened taking a few steps away from the cat sitting at his feet, with an obnoxious purr. Shiro smiled to himself, as she fell onto his feet to prevent him from leaving her. Her tongue scraping across the golden brown fur on her body, her chubby stomach folding around Shiro’s feet and toes. Shiro laughed to himself, pulling his feet away from the little cat taking a large step over him heading for the kitchen.

“Keith, I don’t mean to bother you at all, but I could smell something burning from our room.” Shiro said, with a soft laugh as he pushed through the curtains separating the living room from the kitchen.

Shiro could hear a growl coming from the boy in the kitchen, his face covered in sweat and flour. He turned to shoot a glare at Shiro tossing the batch of cookies he made onto the table. “It’s not fucking burnt Shiro, just fucking toasty.”

Shiro laughed in response, his finger gliding across the counter making his way to his upset fiance. He let his hand drag up to the plate with the burnt cookies, scooping one up into his hands with a smile. “I’m sure they’re wonderful.” Shiro beamed, popping the scorching cookies between his fingers regretting picking it up.

“Then eat it.” Keith smiled, a soft giggle leaving his parted lips. “It’s wonderful, like you said.”

“Okay.” Shiro smiled, gulping back the saliva in his throat, trying to hide his disgust. He licked his lips, looking the cookie down his eyes flicking up at Keith, who shrugged his shoulders with a smirk. Shiro swallowed down a breathe, bringing the cookie to his lips a few crumbs landing around his lower lip. He took a bite out of the black cookie trying to hide the grimace, Shiro could taste salt, burnt crisps, and something resembling a meat like taste, not that he could explain it. Shiro put rest the cookie on a napkin Keith had set beside him, swallowing down the cookie. “Delicious.” Shiro nodded, forcing a rough smile to his lips.

“Yeah, you think?” Keith smiled. “I added every spice that wasn’t in the recipe. And I added half a cup of salt, when it only called for a teaspoon. I don’t know why you thought I wouldn’t fuck this up.”

“It just needs to be undone, come on I’ll help this time.” Shiro smiled, resting his hand on Keith’s shoulder with a soft squeeze, admiring his lovers eyes. He tilted his head slightly to the side, looking Keith in the eyes a smile stretching across his delicate features. “Come on, let’s go to the store and restock, okay?”

“Okay.” Keith mumbled, pressing his lips together looking at Shiro slightly defeated. Shiro took the moment to pull him close to him, his hand resting softly on Keith’s lower back, firm, yet gentle. With a quick dip and kiss, Shiro flung a giggling Keith over his shoulder running out the kitchen making spaceship noises, a trick that Shiro used since he met Keith to make him laugh.

Part 2: The Local Supermarket

Keith sped into the parking lot with Shiro, the engine roaring with the skidding of the tires as he slammed the brakes turning into parking spot. Keith looked over with a laugh, at the heavy breathing man beside him giggling slightly. “Keith, my love, you are never allowed to drive no matter how sad your eyes look got it?”

“I’ll guess we will see how that works out for us, huh?” Keith laughed, stepping out of the car the keys jingling in his free hand the other pressed across the top of the car door. His hand sliding softly over the gloss red paint of his expensive car, his eyes watching Shiro turning to look at him with a frown giving into the smaller boy’s attitude.

“If you insist, love.” Shiro sighed, walking to meet with Keith as they walked towards the store together. Shiro took a slight deep breath, looking over at his lover’s hand swaying back and forth at his hip. His eyes noticing how the black fabric of his jeans hugged the phone in Keith’s pocket, and how his thumb occasionally brushed against the pocket. Shiro slid his hand into Keith’s, holding back a smile on his lips, staring ahead refusing to meet Keith’s eyes. Keith flicked his tongue across his slightly chapped red lips squeezing the newfound matter in his hand slightly, leaning into Shiro’s body smiling to himself now.

The pair walked in silence, letting the warmth of their relationship float around them, public displays of affection were not an activity Keith wanted to always involve himself with until he met Shiro and even then he found it a little uncomfortable, until he realized the uncomfort came from the comfort he felt from Shiro and started channeling the energy efficiently. As they entered the store, Shiro grabbed a basket with his free hand holding it securely to his waist in an attempt to not drop it. “So what do we need?”

“Wheat flour, ginger juice, sugar, and gardenia water.” Keith responded, dragging Shiro by his hand towards the direction of the isles he needed. They were fairly regular to this market, it was in the mists of Chinatown, but in actuality, the market contained more Korean cultured items, but they found best business in this area of the city. “Do you remember when we first came here?”

“Please don’t make me relive that humiliating moment, please, Keith.” Shiro pleaded with a few chuckles leaving his lips.

“But I wanna relive this moment, it was hilarious Shiro!” Keith exclaimed with a laugh at the end. “You literally costed us over a hundred dollars on top of our already two hundred dollar total.”

“I don’t want to talk about it Keith.” Shiro smiled, with a laugh.

“You broke every bottle of syrup.”

“One survived, thank you.” Shiro said between laughs.

“One. My fucking bad.” Keith grinned. “That old lady nearly killed you with her purse. She had over $50 in change, I promise you, I saw her checking out when we were leaving and she was paying all in coins in a plastic baggie she took out of her purse.”

“Explains why it hurt so damn much.” Shiro smiled.

“The store owner would have banned us if we didn’t spend so much money here.”

“Banned me, he loved you remember?”

“He did not.”

“He asked you on a date!!” Shiro laughed with a loud scuff.

“Saved by the flour, look.” Keith smiled, grabbing one of the bags on the shelf. He looked at the label, thrusting the bag at Shiro looking back at the rack. “Does this look like a good brand?”

“How should I know?” Shiro asked, glancing over the label reading the nutrient label afterwards. “I don’t bake, I cook.”

“Is there even a difference? Don’t you cook with flour?” Keith asked, leaning agaisnt the shelves of flour holding a different brand in his hand than Shiro’s.

“Yes, there’s a difference. And yes, I do. I just don’t know if there’s a difference if you’re using it to bake, you know?” Shiro asked, pressing his lips together looking back up at his lover. “I think either of these are fine.”

“Which do you use?” Keith asked.

“The one you’re holding, and only because I liked the label, I thought it was designed really well because I didn’t know what else to look for in it.” Shiro confessed.

“Okay, I’ll get this one then, so whatever we don’t use, you can.” Keith smiled.

“So, does this mean, you’re not cooking ever again?” Shiro laughed, taking the package of flour from his now pouty boyfriend.

“Ha ha, so funny. Let’s get rest of our stuff before you break products again.” Keith answered sarcastically, with a smile playing at his lips, as he drags Shiro further down the aisle to their next stop, sugar. Keith grabbed the first one he saw throwing it to Shiro making his way down the aisle turning left on his heel. “Come on Shiro, we have a lot to do.”

“Alright.” Shiro replied. He followed behind Keith like a puppy waiting for it’s bone, as they continued to collect items around their favorite market to find the ingredients they needed to make the snacks Keith knew Shiro would love.

Part 3: Cooking Together

Shiro held their cat to his chest, his free hand scratching the fur under the cat’s neck placing a soft kiss on the top of it’s head. The golden brown fur stranded through Shiro’s hand as he began to pet the animals. The cat began to purr pushing its head against Shiro’s firm chest using one of his paws to begin to claw at Shiro’s shirt.

Keith entered the kitchen, his hands running down his new white t-shirt pulling on a red apron. “Is Voltron helping us cook today?” Keith asked in a slightly babyish voice, walking up to Shiro his hand starting to smooth over the cat’s fur. “Do you even know what numbers are?”

“He wants to watch not help.” Shiro tsked, placing a kiss on Keith’s cheek.

“I think he wants to eat whatever we make that’s why he wants to help. He read that book about the chicken who made bread by herself and no one wanted to help her and then she didn’t share.” Keith explained.

“The Little Red Hen?” Shiro asked, laughing slightly about the reference that Keith went with.

“Why are you laughing at me?” Keith asked, still petting the animal between the two.

“You reference odd things, Keith, the last reference you made about something in the media was Lazy Town, who even talks about these things as if it’s the most normal thing in the entire world?”

“Clearly, myself and Voltron.”

“Voltron? Referencing Lazy Town and The Little Red Hen?”

“In my defense, you’re the one who knew it was called the Little Red Hen so really who is the weirdo here?” Keith asked, cocking an eyebrow.

“That’s a valid point. Maybe we should just make the cookies and go on with our lives.”

“Valid idea. Let’s do just that. Domestication at it’s finest.” Shiro laughed, setting the cat on the floor in front of him and Keith as he hopped away from them meowing loudly until he left the room and could no longer be heard by either of them. They shared a sweet look and a laugh as Keith began pulling out bowls and plates to make and bake with.

“What do we need to do first?” Shiro asked pulling up his sleeves grabbing a singular bowl that rested on the table in front of them.

“We need to make our dough.” Keith commented, listing off the ingredients he needed to make the three different doughs they needed to make the cookies. As the pair kneaded the dough, they laughed about different things in their life, recalling past events with their friends. They talked about Allura, and Lance, Pidge and Hunk, and even Coran. With a smile on both their lips they moved onto the next part of their recipe.

“We need to rolls them into like logs and then begin breaking them up into three parts.” Keith explained. Shiro nodded beginning to roll up the white down into the log shape that was expected from them, as Keith did so with the pink dough. Shiro placed the first white place one sectioned plate, the second on another, and the third on a different plate, with Keith following suit with the pink dough. Next Keith took the mugwort one and Shiro the yellow following the same process as they just did before.

“This is so much fun.” Shiro smiled, placing his hand on top of Keith’s squeezing it gently.

Keith pressed his lips together. “I don’t know, you look bored, you can stop if you want.”

“I don’t want to stop. It’s fun because we get to spend uninterrupted time together. I miss being able to do that more, you know? Ever since we both started working I miss you, you’re always busy and when you’re not you feel busy, it’s hardly enough time for me. I don’t know, I just love you a lot Keith.”

“I love you a lot too, Shiro. You know that right? I’m like so madly in love with you that it hurts my chest thinking about how much I love you. And I know that, I’m not the greatest at showing it, but I’m so in love with everything about you.” Keith smiled, holding Shiro’s hand.

“We should get married.” Shiro suggested.

“What?”

“If you want to. I mean why not, we’re basically a married couple already.”

“Okay.” Keith smiled with a nod. “Now that they’re together we roll the four colors into one just flatly.” Shiro nodded grabbing a rolling pin starting to roll the dough near him as Keith took the one in the middle. “I’ll make the syrup if you want to boil the dough.”

“Okay sounds like a good plan.” Shiro smiled. The pair finished making their snacks mixing the now finished boiled dough with the boiled syrup coating them completely with the sweet substance.

Shiro put the plate of cooling syrup cookies on the table between the pair. “I think we did great.”

“Yeah, I think we did perfectly.” Keith commented, picking one up in his hand bringing it to his lips taking a bite out of it before swallowing the rest of it. “This is fucking delicious.”

“Yeah. To us.” Shiro smiled picking up yet another cookie.

Keith grabbed his own, raising it to him. “To us.”

For @kithsetotis, for the Sheith Secret Santa!

“Some idiot—” Keith hisses as Shiro ties the gauze, “—Some idiot was bragging about mugging an old lady. So I told him to pick on someone his own size. He challenged me to a fight in the ring. It got a little out of control.”

Shiro pats the gauze after it’s secured. It doesn’t loosen. Hopefully it’ll keep for the next couple of hours. “I’m assuming he walked away worse than you?”

“Of course,” Keith scoffs.
