I often forget just how abruptly and suddenly shadow's world changed. To him, everything was fine and normal, and then suddenly the ark was being raided and then maria was killed in front of him, and then almost immediately after that he woke up gun's base. The next couple of days are the events that happened in sonic adventure 2, then he dies. and then he wake up in sonic heroes.

to him, his entire life changed in just a few moment. In less than a week everything his life became so drastically and irreversibly different. the shock from living in space to living on earth would be jarring on it's own, let alone Everything Else.
