Tattooed: The Golden Trio
• Harry:
Harry’s first tattoo was drunkenly done on the first anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts. Everyone was grieving, the Weasley’s hearts were breaking once again for Fred and Harry couldn’t handle the guilt of the situation so he left to the Leaky Cauldron and got drunk of fire whiskey. He woke up the next day with a small, snowy white owl on the underneath his ear. To everyone else, Hedwig’s death seemed inconsequential compared to their own, but to Harry, it was the death of his first true friend. The owl moved around Harry’s body, enjoying swooping over the back of his neck and pecking at his ear. He didn’t even realize how much he needed the tattoo until he saw it and rejected Hermione’s attempts to remove it. A month later he got a collection of tattoos for his lost loved ones: a miniature stag galloping across his ribs, joined by a shaggy black wolf, the name ‘Lily’ in his Mother’s handwriting with a beautiful inked flower beside it, and a moon on the inside of his wrist reminding him to always do good despite the difficulties he faced. For Ron and Hermione he’d gotten the coordinates of Hogwarts, because his friends had become family and the train station was the first time he’d met that family he’d always wanted. His last tattoo was of a constellation, patterned across his left collarbone, dipping towards his heat. The Draco constellation. Always lovingly traced over. Always guiding him home.
• Hermione:
She surprisingly loved tattoos. It surprised Ron, who didn’t expect his straight-laced wife to be intrigued by Harry’s owl tattoo. He’d seen the glimmer in her eyes and subconsciously he expected ink to appear on her skin. She hadn’t gone off and done it without him knowing but instead she’d shown him a notebook with a drawing on the page. It was a rose. At first he was confused, understanding the meaning was obvious, it was a name they both loved and over soft nights wrapped up in one another they’d discussed how they’d name their first child, ‘Rose’. It was when she’d pressed his hand against her stomach, did he realize the meaning. The rose was inked on her wrist, and at first it was a bud, and as the nine months passed, the flower bloomed into a scarlet red rose. Ron would often trace over the lines, marvelling at the life he now had. The only other tattoo Hermione ever got was for Ron, a long feather that laid across her ribcage which when touched rose slightly making Hermione thrum with giggles and tremble when ‘wingardium leviosa’ was whispered over it.
• Ron:
He loved all the tattoos on his wife, he enjoyed tracing them and enjoyed the process of them being inked on her. But he hated the thought of a needle poking him. The only tattoo he ever got was because Luna had said that it would be nice for him to get something to match both Hermione and Harry. He’d wracked his mind thinking about it, wondering if he should do a homage to Fred or to get something relating to his two best friends. But in the end, he’d gotten the handprint of his son tattoed over his heart. It had fit nicely, with Hermione having a Rose and him having Hugo, it was complete. A complete family was always something Ron wanted.
