hiya sonny! i'm not sure if you've ever considered a wild west au before but it's been plaguing my mind and i wanted to share. i think this could go multiple ways, but my main 2 hcs are as follows:

ari (sorry it's always ari my mind can only ever think about him) is the town sheriff. he's respected by all the townspeople, known for his composure and fair judgement. he likes to hang out in the bar during his downtime, especially because his best bud works as a bartender there. he's a bit of enigma to the regulars because no one has ever seen him with any of the saloon girls even though they're the main attraction for many of the men. that is until a new girl shows up to town and asks for work at the saloon. she's clumsy and awkward, but a hard worker and the owner patrons like her a lot. ari included 🥺

the second take, which would probably be more fitting for a bit of a darker ari, is that he's a feared and wanted gunslinger. he arrives at reader's town as a pitstop, only staying for a few days before he has to keep moving. he enters the saloon and meets reader, who is a town resident and a barmaid. he mistook her for a soiled dove, and i'm sure you can fil in the blanks, i'm too shy to. she doesn't say no because she's so flustered that a handsome man is hitting on her, not realising he thinks she's a whore. i think for this one, ari is a little sleezier plus standoffish and mean. he doesn't have the luxury of settling or befriending people, so he only views reader as stress relief. until he doesn't 🙈

that covers most of my thoughts for a wild west concept! i love cliches and tropes and golly does the old west have so many. not to mention, rogue gunslinger ari is such an attractive thought,,, -🥮💖

He’s never admitted it, but his actions said it loud and clear: the only reason he came to this town was because of you.

He snorts, taking that as his cue to move you off of his chest and get out of bed. “Not a chance.”

“Please, I don’t ever ask for much!” You insist, sitting up with the blanket on your chest.

He starts getting dressed, buckling his jeans and buttoning the bottom of his shirt. “Ain’t nothing outside this town for you—” Soft sniffling makes him freeze, his fingers digging into his worn leather chaps. Every fibre in his body warns him not to look back, but your gentle murmur of his name silences those pleas. 

You’re sitting in the middle of the bed with wrinkled sheets around your waist. He doesn’t need to touch you to know your body is still hot, sore or slick; burning, covered and full of his presence. 

“You are. Whenever you leave, I-I got nothing here.” Your hate how your voice breaks, “I’m just making the most of every day even though it’s a damn drag. I wanna go with you and your crew.”

Outlaws. Feared, damned and dirty gunslingers, criminals, and people who don’t belong anywhere else. It was a tight group dynamic, tied together with their unfortunate lives (some of them voluntarily).

“You’re safe.” He rephrases pointedly, “These borders keep you alive.”

Sitting at your dressing table, you claw your hair into a sensible ponytail, fussing with the fluffy bits that stick out the sides. You really weren't in the mood to put a full face of makeup on, so you just apply mascara and lip gloss. It helped with tips.

Sighing into the room, you pout, attempting to stare down your own reflection, your mind wandering to the sticky dark cloud that clung to you. Intrusive thoughts had grabbed you and refused to let go for a week now. Black tar thoughts; slow moving, bitter and impossible to remove.

You hear your front door open with a rustle of leather and a creak of boots.
