I’d like to add this photo I took last night in Victoria of the statue of Captain Cook. Though I myself am not indigenous, I 100% agree that these murderers, kidnappers and rapists shouldn’t have huge statues and plaques that decorate them and say how “great” they were.

Reblogging after reading the sources because you see things like this and think, “oh, this was a long time ago. No one remembers it.” I want to emphasize that this isn’t ancient history. The last time it happened was in 1998. I was three. My boyfriend was nine. I have memories from that year.
This isn’t ancient history.
The survivors are still alive. They are still reliving the sort of hell most of us probably aren’t capable of coming remotely close to comprehending. The ones who didn’t get out, who didn’t escape, they are still lost to the families whose arms they were ripped from.
Every single one of those bodies needs to be identified and returned to the next of kin. And I know it’s possible, because they’re doing that with the dead from Pearl Harbor. Compensation needs to be provided to the families of those lost, and to the survivors. Money can’t fix what has been done, I know, but it certainly can’t hurt for the church and government to acknowledge what happened and acknowledge that the crime deserves to be compensated for. Anyone who participated, facilitated, allowed, arranged for, or was in any way involved in these crimes needs to be 1) stripped of any titles they have in the church and preferably be excommunicated, primarily because that’ll likely be a big deal to the individual and I’m all about fucking their lives up, and 2) those living need to be brought to trial. And honestly, whatever else the survivors and surviving family members feel they need. You guys know a hell of a lot better what you need than I do.
