A survey was done asking men and women what their priorities are when job seeking. 76% of men listed “money” as the highest priority, while only 29% of women did.

Would that not, all by itself, explain most, if not all, of the average difference right there? The demographic that is less motivated to seek the highest-paying work, over everything else a job can offer (best healthcare/retirement plan, convenient/flexible hours, etc.), is obviously going to end up earning less in the long run.
