Jace frowned. We wanted things to change. Change? That wasn’t right. He didn’t want anything to change. They had been working on his future for pretty much his entire life. His father had drilled into him that it would be in his best interest to follow in his footsteps and Jace had believed that too.
The blond watched as Alec twisted his fingers on the sheets. Funny, he thought, it resembled the way he was feeling on the inside. His stomach was in knots, insides squirming with the knowledge that he was recently bestowed. Being told that he was miserable with the path that had been laid out in front of him. He looked away from the fingers, down to his own lap. He hadn’t been miserable. Sure, he wasn’t exactly his dream, he didn’t know what he wanted to do in his life but it wasn’t a bad one. Jace was sure that he would like it once he got into it. It was a matter of time. He wouldn’t just leave it all behind.
But even if that’s what happened, did his father really just cut him off from them because had chosen not to follow the course that had been set by him? Was it really that easy for him?
Jace looked up at Alec as the other continued speaking. Hearing that he believed in them wasn’t surprising. He always believed in them they were best friends for a reason but it was everything else that was slowly becoming overwhelming. He shook his head, admitting that he didn’t know a Lydia. Was he supposed to? He continued shaking his head, even more vigorously when he learned he owned a coffee truck. “Why would I open a coffee shop?” It wasn’t something he was passionate about. Sure, he experimented a little here and there but as his father liked to remind him, it wasn’t a career.
“None of this makes sense to me Alec,” Jace said, almost breaking into a sob. “Even if my dad doesn’t want to see me, my mom? I’d lose her over a coffee shop? I would-” Jace looked up at the older male. He knew how much his mother meant to him. He’d never leave her. “Please tell me this is a prank. Please tell me I didn’t throw my life away.”
They would laugh about this, Alec was sure. When it was all over and Jace was back to his old self they would remember that time he ended up in the hospital, and scared Alec shitless in the process, and they would laugh about how he had woken up without a single memory of them. Right then though, right then it fucking hurt. It hurt they way unspilled tears in Jace’s eyes always did, and it hurt in a completely new way knowing he was responsible for those tears.
He had to take a steadying breath before he managed to speak, shaking his head and swallowing down the unfamiliar noise that felt stuck in his throat. It was okay, Alec told himself, it would be. Jace would never regret this, him, his Jace would never regret him.
“You didn't throw it away, Jace,” he promised, gathering up his courage and placing a firm hand on Jace’s shoulder.
Just be strong now, Alec decided, regardless of how tired he felt, how drained out, Jace needed him now and he’d be damned if he wouldn’t be there for him. For better or for worse, that had been their promise, and it seemed the time to prove it was upon him.
“Look, I know I can only imagine how confusing this must feel, but trust me, okay? Can you do that? Let me bring you home and show you everything, I’m sure you will remember.”
That was the medical recommendation after all, at least what Alec had managed to understand of it over the white noise inside his own head. Outside of the amnesia Jace looked to be physically fine and only a few exams away from being released. The science of the mind was as unreliable as it could be, but the doctor assured him taking Jace back to what was familiar to him would be good and Alec had a whole loft filled with memories just waiting to get his husband back.
And as for Jace’s mother..
“I’ll call Celine as soon as I can, she will be happy to hear you’re awake.”
Who said something good couldn’t come out of this mess?

who do you think plays accurate and excellent versions of shadowhunter characters? I'm looking for some new blogs to follow and I trust your view.
the truth, anon, is that i try to be very careful or as much as possible with everyone i follow, so ultimately, if i followed a portrayal of a character, it’s because something about their writing, dedication, headcanons, or passion, caught my attention. that said, i could give you a list of every sh blog i follow and i’d say you’re in good hands, portrayal wise. i feel like this is very personal taste, and it’s why i’m constantly evaluating my dash, but what i try to do is seek out people that either enjoy, or respect, book portrayals, and that have either the type of writing i admire, or share similar views i have over the sh characters. i can’t say i have the most active follow list, but i do respect and enjoy the work of every one of them, so here are a few of them that have been active more recently:
